Repeated Crashes, Hardware Fried?

LxRogue United States1415 Posts June 03 2012 07:14 GMT #1 Some general info about my desktop: About 2.5 years old AMD Phenom II X2 500 ATI Radeon 4870 500GB HD (about 50-60% full) The processor I had overclocked a bit (since it's the unlocked version) but turned it back down to normal maybe a year ago. I've been having some pretty bad crashes as of recently, and I'm wondering what the most likely cause is. No bluescreen, no error messages, just the screen and computer totally locking up, or alternatively the computer shutting itself off. Also, it tends to crash a few times in a row before again running stable for a few days. Tends to happen when doing more resource-intensive things. Just thinking logically, it seems like some kind of hardware failure? Could it be as simple as my processor just taking a crap?

jaj22 United Kingdom1376 Posts June 03 2012 16:26 GMT #2 PSU failure is probably the most likely fault. Get HWMonitor, run a game for a bit and, then post a screenshot.
