There is a topic that I am quite concerned about and I would like to open the discussion here.
The topic is: Should all images be banned from LR threads?
Last night, the mighty EvilTeletubby started warning and banning people left and right for posting images in the 2012 GSTL day 1 LR thread.
I admit that I have been guilty of posting images in LR thread before, but I was not aware that this is a criminal act.
In fact, it seems almost a folkway, as in a rule that is lightly enforced here at TL.net
I have personally asked the all powerful EvilTeletubby about this topic and he mercifully replied in the following PMs

I come today not to disrespect the great Teletubby's wishes but merely asking if it is possible that we do not ban all images/cheers from Live Report threads. Not all images posted in LR are as terrible as this one!

The first picture was one I had posted was a cheer for the AOL finals. I took time and some thought into making that picture in order to hype a match that everyone knew ahead of time would be a very brief one sided finals. The image got people's attention and interests as seen by this poster:

The second image was posted as a cheer for EGIdra as he prepared for his match that night. It was meant to rouse fans to watch the tournament and support the player.
Although I agree with that we should preserve the integrity of teamliquid.net and not allow it to turn into a image spam board, I do think that certain images/cheers are helpful in bringing the spirit of the fans into the live report. I submit that the total denial of all images in LR threads including fanart will undermine the purpose of such threads all together: fans gathering together to cheer for their favorite players and supporting esports.

just to repost what I said in the ABL thread
I think there is a certain threshold as to what kind of images are accepted.
Pregame images and cheerfuls are totally fine because they serve the purpose of hyping the match(or a match for the play day) same goes for banners that OPs use for LR threads, I mean thats why they(I) do it, to create a hype for the match.
whereas randomly spamming images in the middle of the game doesn't really serve any purpose and is no different from regular spamming.
as long as it serves a well defined purpose to the users and the mods, you should be fine.
but still god know why you weren't warned for that hideous bulgougi(am I saying it right) pic, ugh

i was wondering this same thing myself, because tons of images bother the shit out of me when reading a LR thread. That is unless they're the awesome hype you up kind of images
I think as with all of TL the quality should just be kept high

The problem with images in the live report thread is that as soon as someone posts an image, even if it's awesome/cool, then someone else seems to think that it's okay to post images and then proceeds to do so. But most people who do this have terrible judgment. Most of those kinds of people post shitty/annoying images with nothing else to add and clutter the thread which only leads to more shitty images.
If you are posting a picture or image macro or meme or some variation thereof, that isn't directly related to the match at hand and not accompanied by anything else insightful in your post related to the image you decided to add... then please don't post it. It's spam, it's annoying, and it's most often not what we want on our site.
