Why Team MvP will defend their GSTL title

So I noticed that a lot of the teams have been covered so far with their own hype posts and believed that MvP needs a fair amount too! After all, they are the defending champions of 2011 GSTL Season 1, after defeating Prime 5-3.

To take a look at why team MvP will destroy this tournament again - let's glance at their recent team games

This was MvP's breakout season - a team that not many had really heard of before, rolling through Prime and oGs - two very powerful teams - on the back of their ace, (Z)

DongRaeGu. The funny thing was that DRG was still a Code B player at the time, and yet he managed to close some epic ace matches against (T)

MarineKing, (T)

NaDa and

MC. He almost saved them from (T)

MMA - if you watch the final game, there was a period where (Z)

DRG was in a great spot. Alas, (T)

MMA is imba.

Seriously - this is an amazing record. While MvP started the season needing DRG to 3-kill twice in a row and dropping the next set, they performed admirably for the remained. With the losses to TSL and F.United on their minds, nonetheless they made the playoffs and showed one of the most exciting series against IM. DRG's 3-kill ran through (T)

Happy,

LosirA and (P)

YoungHwa and had to be stopped by (T)

IMmvp. At this point, defeat looked certain, with IM up 4:3 and MvP's roster looking a bit bare - especially with IM's two aces still left standing. However, (P)

TAiLS pulled through with some exciting play - holding off (T)

IMmvp's 1-1-1 with an epic contain and upsetting (Z)

NesTea's amazing ZvP.

MvP's next two matches showed that they didn't even need (Z)

DRG to carry them - with (P)

Genius' 4-kill of NSHoSeo against players like (T)

Jjakji and (P)

Sage, and

Noblesse's 3-kill of Prime, which placed them in an unwinnable position against (T)

Keen. While teams like SlayerS, IM and oGsTL came into the first GSTL season as favourites, MvP pulled it off to take their first GSTL victory.

This was a bit of a disappointing league for MvP - but it had a few highlights. (T)

Keen's 4-kill against Reign, (T)

sC's 3-kill against QIM (only to be reverse-3-killed by IMMvp), (T)

Noblesse's 3-kill against Dignitas and (T)

Keen's all-kill against SlayerS (including MMA) showcased the rest of the talent of Team MvP.

Their only losses came due to a 3-kill by (T)

IMmvp and an amazing battle with Mousesports, who have proven themselves to be a top-tier team, taking out SlayerS and all-killing QIM at one point.

Both of these series were very close, and while they lost both games, arguably the motivation was less (in terms of prestige and prize money). These were still some amazing sets, showing off MvP's non- (Z)

DRG talent :D.

Seriously - a record of 18-4 against top-tier Korean teams is not to be laughed at. MvP came out first in a 8-team elimination bracket, with a (T)

DongRaeGu's massive 5-kill of StarTale, destroying (P)

MvP 6:2 ZeNEX
Prime 6:5 MvP

ZeNEX isn't what it used to be, and MvP destroyed them as expected. A pity that they dropped the series to Prime in the semifinals, but that was on the back of a streaky (T)

MarineKing 4-kill. The highlight, perhaps was (T)

DREAM's 4-kill of Prime, where he took out (Z)

BBoongBBoong, (T)

Classic,

AnnYeong, and (P)

cOre, which are Prime's high B-teamers for sure.

Liquid 5:2 coL.MvP
Empire 5:3 MvP

Unfortunately these games weren't really indicative of MvP's strengths - no MvP players played in the first game due to New Years' break in Korea and only three B-teamers played in the second series. (T)

Bang,

Dream and

TAiLS were disposed by Empire's A-team of (former MvP player) (Z)

viOLet and (T)

Kas to unfortunately knock coL.MvP out of the running.

MvP destroyed FXO without even using any of their top 3 ( (T)

Genius or

DRG). Finale's 3-kill closed out by taking out (Z)

Leenock,

Oz and

GuMiho in quite the upset. We're probably going to see them go up against SlayerS in a great rematch or roll over a slumping oGsTL in their next match.

So we can see out of these games (I hope I haven't missed any recent team-league matches) that MvP has an epic win:loss ratio. While MvP arguably lacks the top-heavy lineups of other teams (e.g. IM's (Z)

NesTea and (T)

MVP, oGs'

NaDa and

MC, SlayerS Terrans) they have some of the most balanced lineups.

Let's take a look:

His TLPD record doesn't look too hot, until you expand 'All Leagues' and notice his recent intense PvT streak, with wins against (T)

SuperNoVa, (T)

TheStC,

Jjakji and Fin. This guy 4-killed oGs and was only taken out by (P)

MC after he failed a cheese

finale is a great vT sniper, and with the recent series against FXO, he showed he could take out FXO's top 3 aces in fine fashion.

MVP during GSTL Season 1 - let's see if he can upset (T)

MarineKing or (T)

MMA this time around to finish his scalp collection.

For a few months back in 2011, (P)

Genius looked like he was falling off the radar a bit - until he 4-0'd his Up/Down group and then 4-0'd his Code S group against (T)

sC and

DRG. A master of the old style, let's see how well his play transitions into new-age Protoss that is being spearheaded by (P)

Parting and (P)

Brown, etc. Recently, he blew through (Z)

NesTea,

MarineKing and (P)

MC - three mutliple-GSL finalists. I daresay Genius has a good shot at becoming a GSL finalist himself.

NesTea), yet beset by a plague of lung problems. He still retains some impressive vZ and vP stats, and will be a key player for sure. A pity he dropped out of his Ro32 Code S group but it was to two teamates - (P)

Genius and (Z)

DRG - so no shame there.

One of MvP's up-and-coming players for sure. While his recent Code S was a bit of a disappointment (he still has a woeful v (T)

NaDa), he tore up Code A and plenty of recent team-leagues, as well as the BenQ Starcraft Clash II, taking out (P)

Grubby and (Z)

DIMAGA.

Does anything really need to be said here? Co-owner of the new-best-series-of-starcraft-2, with plenty of 3- and 4- and 5-kills to his name, (Z)

DRG has carried MvP for a long time. He was part of a Code S group of death and came through in dominating fashion as first place, taking out (Z)

NesTea and (T)

MarineKing, with the two MvP players winning the day. DRG took out the upstart (P)

Parting without much fuss 3-0, playing some amazing Zerg - and he seems set to meet Genius in the finals!

Come on guys, I'm glad everyone is following in my footsteps but put more work into the presentation!

Center your images, get some banners, etc. Make it really EYE POPPING, just like the players' gameplay. It's about the passion, the heart, the hype!

How can you not love this team? So many characters with the skill to back it up too. DRG is the most acest of aces, along with MMA. I'd like to see a rematch GSTL finals with them going at it again. Genius's recent form looks beastly. I hope guineapig is playing random still.

From Genius' interviews, he's pretty serious about training now that the GSL format is much less forgiving. And Keen has been consistent over several team leagues.
