Back in October, Evil Geniuses announced that as part of our new partnership with team SlayerS, Greg “IdrA” Fields would be returning to Korea to compete in the renowned Global StarCraft II League and to train in the SlayerS house. He would begin his GSL play in 2012, starting off in Code A. Of course, IdrA’s goal would be the same as that of any Code A player—to advance to the league’s prestigious Code S division.
Now EG is excited to announce that IdrA will in fact be entering directly into Code S. Though we don’t yet have details on who or why, the GSL has informed us that a current Code S player has dropped out of the league, and IdrA has been invited to fill that space. IdrA has accepted the invitation, and starting in January he will be competing with the very best players in the world, including the likes of Mvp, NesTea, Leenock, Jjackji, and potentially his teammate Chris “HuK” Loranger.
IdrA had been a consistent competitor in Code S in the early days of the GSL. Starting with the league’s first season in August of 2010, IdrA had played in every Code S tournament bracket until he left Korea in March of this year. It was then that he had made his decision to return to the United States in order to take part in North America’s developing professional scene and to compete in a wider range of tournaments (something that is difficult to do when playing in the GSL). Recently, however, IdrA has stated that in order to refine his skill to the very top level, it would be necessary for him to return to Korea to train and compete among the best.
Now that he’s in Code S, he’ll have exactly that opportunity.
Congratulations, Greg. Here’s to a successful new year.
