IEM Global Challenge New York: Day One
Lag/Stream Situation
Carmac told us that the organizers didn't come through with the internet they told IEM would be available, so the internet was very spotty for a bit. Some of the games will be cast from recordings apparently, but it all seems okay right now.

Epilogue: We stopped to get food on the way home. The counter guy asked Wax if he was the drummer in a band and he has been puzzled since as to why he asked that specific position within a band.
5:30 PM: Games for today are over, TSL_Killer and dignitas.KiLLeR advance from Group A, coL.MVP.DongRaeGu and GoSu.Gatored advance from Group B. Fun anecdote: Wax fell asleep watching DRG vs StrifeCro just now.
5:15 PM:
5:10 PM: Didn't see the start of the game, but walked in to Killer vs Sjow about 15 minutes in, Killer 4 base to Sjow 3 on Terminus. They got into a big engagement, Killer had colossus+storm and won pretty handily, however Sjow successfully landed a nuke on Killer's army and killed 1 colossus and maybe 20 supply of stalker/zealot. Killer takes base #5 and 6 and rolls through him.
5:02 PM: Strelok slams his hand on his desk when he realizes he is going to lose game 3 to Gatored.
4:50 PM: Watched Strelok-Gatored game 2 with Elfi, when Strelok ran his dropped units into the P army I said "that was an odd choice". Elfi's responded with "misclick". Attero watches his replays vs dKiller with the workers lost tab up the entire time.
4:40 PM: More photos added, some from the DRG / Gatored series.
4:16 PM: DRG and Killer are working out possibilities of how the bracket will be seeded, possibly to try and avoid running into other Koreans.
4:10 PM: Gatored beat DRG in Shakuras, using the same build Elfi used against IdrA in China. Elfi was watching the whole thing, after the game was over he went over to congratulate Gatored and Gatored thanked him for the build .
3:45 PM: Everyone was watching from DRG's side of the stage when Gatored took the first game. Ran over and gave Gatored a high five. Maybe he can win the series? On a side note, Mana's been with the two Koreans nearly the entire time, I'd believe it if someone said he was their manager.
3:30 PM: First batch of photos uploaded, see media section below.
3:15 PM: Also, taking requests again! PM them to waxangel :o
3:11 PM: Updated with a few more results. It's kind of dead here without any audience allowed to come in until 4:00, but I did manage to give Strelok a high five after he took a set off DRG. Lots of league of legends people here, but it's difficult to say negative things about them and their game since this text is being shown on one of the player screens D:
2:23 PM: The internet went out for all the press here, so our updates were killed for the past two hours. I'm stealing a player comp at the moment to put in this timely update. We had originally planned to update pretty frequently, but we'll be unable to until they fix the internet for everyone. In the meanwhile, enjoy some match recaps I wrote off the top of my head.
12:13 PM: Whew, finally here. Got situated at our press spot... Saw TSL_Killer and DongRaeGu prepping at their computers. MaNa is here as well, even though he's not playing any games today. He's here to support fellow Protoss TSL_Killer, with whom he apparently struck up a friendship with at IEM Cologne. E-SPORTS :D
10:52 AM: R1CH is taking forever to get ready, so here's a story from yesterday. We went out with Bitterdam to dinner at... TGI Fridays. Why? Apparently Rotterdam thinks that TGI Fridays is the pinnacle of American cuisine, especially their baby back ribs. I started to criticize, but what can you really say about a man and the food he loves?
10:34 AM: Heyoka, WaxAngel and R1CH getting ready to head to the venue. We'll be getting in before the venue is open to the public, which is around 4:00 PM on day one. Yup, that means the first few games will have no live audience, and be stream only T_T

Strifecro vs Gatored
+ Show Spoiler +
Strifecro 2 : 0 Gatored
G1: Gatored forge FE'd vs Strifecro's fast natural + gold. Gatored didn't do enough dmg with his attack into the gold, and was soon overwhelmed by huge numbers of roaches.
G2: The two players traded, Gatored doing a little dmg with Phoenix + Voids, while Strifecro did some decent damage with a ling-fester attack. The game stabilized and went long, where Brood Lords + Infestors proved to be stronger than terrible Protoss stuff.

Sjow vs d.Killer
+ Show Spoiler +
Sjow 1 : 2 Killer
G1: Sjow tried a reactor hellion build into two port banshees on close-spots metal, but it was hard countered by Killer's fast mutas. Killer rode this adv to a victory.
G2: A long macro game where Killer made ultralisks as his hive tech.
G3: A long macro game where Killer made broodlords as his hive tech. (that means he won)
TSL_Killer vs Attero
+ Show Spoiler +
Killer 1 : 2 Attero
G1: Attero went for a nice phoenix + 4 gate attack against Killer's standard play, catching him off guard and taking the victory.
G2: Killer paid Attero back, using a phoenix build of his own to take the win.
G3: The players seemed dead even with robo + blink stalkers, but Attero managed to sneak in a hidden expansion, allowing him to make a lot more stuff than killer.

DRG vs Strelok
+ Show Spoiler +
DRG 2 : 1 Strelok
G1: The games started to lag around here, but it's hard to say what influence they had. Strelok played reaper-triple orbital build, which DRG tried to pressure early with roach-ling. However, he didnt' do much damage at all, and ended up quite behind, even though he was droning hard on the back of his early pressure. Strelok just played safe and passively, building up an army while fending off muta-harass without taking much damage. After a while, he had enough stuff to simply push and take the win.
G2: DRG vs Terran on Dual Sight. End of story.
G3: DRG used a strong roach-ling attack early, and this time Strelok couldn't hold.

SjoW vs Attero
+ Show Spoiler +
Sjow 2 : 0 Attero
G1: Missed it while eating.
G2: Sjow opened with some 1/1/1 variation, but Attero did his own Phoenix build to ward Sjow off. SjoW decided instead to expand and go for a slightly later two base timing attack, proving that 1/1/1 transitions into victory in most situations

d.Killer vs TSL_Killer
+ Show Spoiler +
Chile 1 : 1 Korea
G1: The game went to a long macro game, but the Korean proved to have superior macro and crushed the Chilean with a larger force.
G2: The Korean went for a forge FE into stargate into sneaky two robo colossi... only to be countered by the Chilean's fast mutalisks into muta-roach pressure. The Korean simply didn't have the forces to stop both roaches and mutas, and was forced to GG.

Strelok vs Strifecro
+ Show Spoiler +
Strelok 2 : 0 Strifecro
G1: Missed the details, but I heard that it was a standard game where Strelok just had better overall mechanics to take the win.
G2: Looked like more of the same, with Strelok slowly suffocating Strifecro in a long macro game on Terminus.
