An orbital is as good as 6 SCV's at mining minerals and costs 250 more than 6 SCV's so essentially double the cost since 6 SCV's are 300 minerals


but an orbital is much much tankier and not vulnerable to harassment, and one benefit of orbitals is you can fly one to a far away base, land it, and then drop 12 mules at that far away base and probably mine a bunch of it before your enemy realizes and comes to kill it. the base is undefended and who cares if you lost a 550 orbital because you just sneaked thousands of minerals into your pocket


its a very rare use but i think lategame lategame lategame terran can prove to have the absolute definite strongest army (if they didnt already have it) because they can mine minerals without spending food on workers. so their army can be a good 40food larger than their enemy considering normal 2base play is 40 workers on minerals 12 on gas.
