Hey all!
From what I've been reading and seeing. Everyone looks like they want to reach the ultimate Diamond League because players can be represented as pros and bling their profile with that shiny diamond. I'm not saying being in Diamond is bad or overrated, but what about the league below it? Platinum? I was just curious as to how players in that league feel being in that position. Would other players of the lower league consider it them to be pro as well? I really do have an interest for the competitive side of SC2 and personally, I'll be very satisfied being in Platinum. Me being in platinum will make me as happy as someone who gets put into Diamond [I'm a bronze player :S].
Is there any major differences between Diamond and Platinum or Gold and Platinum as well?
Thanks for taking your time to read and answer my questions!

I'm stuck in platinum and I'm nottt liking it. I imagine the only reason I'm still in it is because I only have 31 games played but from my experience silver-gold-platinum are all pretty similar in skill. Bronze seem extra bad. When I get matched against someone who's platinum, I almost always shit on them. Lately the game just pairs me with 1400+/- diamond players and I'm only winning 2/5 atm >< I would never consider someone in platinum to be pro. Either they'll be moved up soon if they're any good, or they're just as bad as the rest ^^
I don't think you really start seeing people being really good until they have a pretty decent amount of points in diamond. There's still plenty of not so great diamond players.

I would say the difference between Gold and plat-low diamond is you will face people who have their fundamentals down. Being in diamond doesn't really give you the pro feel as you would put it. I know when I started off in copper (there was a rank lower than bronze, once upon a time) I just simply though of Platinum and then, when it was added, Diamond, as just better players. You'll see an obvious difference between bronze and platinum.

Seriously? Pro in diamond league? Man, when you get in Diamond league you are just starting.

im platinum rank 4, got 1200 points in my division. i know im not a bad player, but i know my strengths and weaknesses. currently, i lose to every diamond toss that i play. i also lose to almost every diamond terran taht i play, and i beat every diamond zerg that i play. why? because i have like three build that i can do, total. which isnt that good. i 4gate against zerg and win almost every time, and i2 gate robo against toss, but somehow i havnt got the hang of it. terran, i 3 gate robo, with some small success. what im trying to say is that, i am pretty decent i know the game pretty well. but i havent perfected everything, meaning im not ready for diamond In my own opinion, but im pretty good. and being in platinum isnt too amazing, unless you started as silver like me or bronze like a lot of my buddies. plat is ok. but diamond is definitely different from platinum in skill level.

I personally feel like that the diamond leauge was of higher quality during the beta than it is today. I dont consider myself a good player at all, was just barely C- in SC1, was never able to reach the diamond leauge during beta, but now it seems that most guys I get to face in there are really bad with 20 apm and well hardly even knows the basics. Maybe my diamond leauge is just utterly bad. ^^

Everyone i know that put a little effort in SC2 (so about 150 games since release) and has some experience with other RTS is in Diamond atm...
Right now Diamond has nothing to do with being high skilled, it just means that someone has a little unterstanding of the basic concepts/builds of the game.
Can't wait until season 2 when many of the Bronze/Silver/Gold/Plat players that are inactiv now don't fill the leagues up. In the long run at lesat Platin will eventually mean something.
I mean, i yesterday played against a friend that has quite a few games under his belt but never played an RTS before... He had 4 Gateways and just stopped producing anything because he first wanted to scout what i build so he could build the right counter... To scout he waited for his first Observer. Another friend observed it and whispered me that he thinks my opponent is afk... He wasn't, he had just no clue what he should do and so he did just nothing... Which is probably the biggest possible error you ever could do.

If you keep playing and are on TL platinum league is just a blink of time in your life, maybe 3-4 days.

I guess its like all the leagues. You have a different set of playstyles and thus the games develop in a different direction. I was surely shocked for a short amount when playing on the Acc of a friend while i visited him, he is in Bronze league and 3 people in a row tried to worker - rush.
I mean, how do they even want to improve if they are most possibly not aware that there is a 2nd page for buildings which can be produced? Its weird to think that the average game length there is around 5 minutes at its best (unless some1 starts to hover...)
I, for myself, dont give a sh!t about leagues. I never ask the league in a game, i sometimes look the player up after a game, but most of the time its gl&hf - play - gg. Why the fuss about leagues anyways? Sc2ranks.com provides a better solution than glaring at your league and seeing you are 3 points behind place soandso in division Mutalisk Whiskey...

I don't think it's that bad. I've never played an RTS in multiplayer before. I love watching the games and I can't get enough of SC2. learning the concepts behind RTS multiplayer has been a trip ie; dealing with cheese, learning when to expand, getting the hotkeys down. It's a very rewarding experience. I think people don't give enough credit to each individual league.I made the journey from gold -> silver -> gold and am probably going to be moved up to plat soon. But I only play as zerg so it's been quite the experience ( read: Getting Raped). I like the way matchmaking works in this game though. It seems no matter the league you are pitted against be it bronze, silver. gold. platinum, or diamond, you can almost always expect a challenege

I've progressed through three leagues.. and there's a very noticeable skill difference in all of them. To the point that when you realize you faced a +1 league you go "no wonder I lost so hard."
It's a good system.

i personally feel that platinum is better than diamond cuz the metagame is faster

I'm in plat, and I think being there is something to be proud of, even though I know that I have a lot of improving to do and I still make lots of painful mistakes. Platinum is quite different from the lower leagues, and diamond is quite different from platinum. Within diamond there's a huge skill differential as well. I think if you work your way up to platinum from being a total beginner, you have accomplished something, but I also think that anyone can make it to diamond with hard work.
I also agree with the poster above that making plat or diamond is not the same accomplishment it was in the beta. I'd say current platinum is like beta gold. But that's pretty much irrelevant now!

Yes there's definitely a pretty big difference between Platinum and Diamond.
For reference I am approximately a 1200+ diamond 1v1 Z player. I recently played on a friends account who was somewhere in mid Platinum (forgot exact number) and went on a 20-2 win streak. In diamond I'm about 60% or so win avg. After I was done playing his account his opponents were all 1k+ diamond point players and he lost like 10 in a row lol.
|
I'm in platinum league as a zerg / toss player. I had literally no RTS experience pre SC2, so I figure that in due time I can get into diamond and one day compete in tournaments.
The plat symbol is pretty shiny though! so i'm fine with plat for now

i'd say there even is a huge gap inbetween the leagues, at least in diamond.
assuming everyone would be at the pointrange he's supposed to be_
there are even huge differences inbetween the leagues, at least in diamond. a 1000 diamond player can't be compared to 1500. and a 1500 is still far from a 2000+ diamond.
of course the constant shift in points and many players being wrongly rated be it to low or to high makes up for this so one probably will face many different skill-levels the lower he is in leagues/points.

Not the best thread title. People are pretty bad until you start getting to 1400 diamond.
|
i dunno, im about a 400 diamond Terran player. I havent played 1v1 ladder in a while, but I distinctly remember that any game where I felt I totally owned my opponent, he always turned out to be a platinum player. Any time I played a diamond, whether I won or I lost I always felt I could have played better.
Also, Ive played my high platinum friend as zerg (vs protoss) and I have beaten him, though admittedly hes won against my zerg more than he has lost. I honestly do feel that diamond is significantly more difficult than the other leagues.
|
I am stuck in platinum at the very top of the ladder. The majority of people I play against are diamond players. Why am I not in the diamond league? I have 20 more wins than losses.
Am I forever stuck in platinum?
|
I am a competitive fps player who never played sc1 and I made it to diamond in under 20 games. From my experience if you haven't been promoted to diamond after trying for a while you are most likely lacking in some basic rts skills.
