Hello, While this is a site mostly for competitive starcraft and sc2, there are still many people who like custom maps, so I thought that I would create a thread on the custom map I have been working on since the release of sc2. Introducing...
HERO ATTACK
Hero attack is an MOBA style map similar to dota. Players work in teams and control heroes and their goal is to destroy the enemy team's main building. Heroes can gain experience, buy items and learn special abilities.
However, this is not a dota clone, there are many differences between hero attack and dota. Most noticeably each team must pick a race (Terran, Protoss or Zerg) before the game starts, and each race has a unique set of items, heroes and units. All heroes and items are based on sc2 units and abilities so it should be fairly straitforward how to use each hero (the ghost hero, for example, has abilities such as snipe, cloak, emp and nuke). The map layout is different from the dota one (the map has 4 lanes instead of 3) and every 5 minutes the lanes will spawn additional troops. The computer player on each team harvests minerals and vespene from there base and gives it to the allied players on the team. There are also neutral hostile critters that you can kill for additional gold. Currently this map has:
Here are some videos. Keep in mind that the videos are of Hero attack in lowest graphics settings because my laptop cannot handle anything higher than that.
I spent alot of time on this map so please give it a try.
If you want to play this map (or something different other than the popular maps), go to join custom games, click show new only and its only 4 pages down. The map is called Hero Attack (version 1).
Edit: The game is no longer considered new so it will be extremely difficult to start or find a game (if it wasn't difficult enough before). I'm working on a new patch that will have atleast 12 new heroes, some new items and some balance changes. When i'm done the patch I'll republish, so you should probably wait for the new patch. I'll indicate in advance when the patch is coming out.
This map is only available on the North American server at this point in time.
I haven't played the game yet, but I think it might be a mistake to have 4 lanes instead of 3, almost in the same sense that it would be a mistake to add a 4th race to the game itself.
I duno.. I think that anyone that played dota competitively would agree, although it may be too hard to explain.
You kind of need a middle lane, and seeing as how there is 4 in your mod... congruency would mean that were wasn't.
The race pick thing pre-game is very interesting though.
Alright, because people in this thread have asked so kindly, I created a youtube acount and have finished a video explaining the map and showing off some of the heroes. When it's done uploading I will put a link here.
On the DOTA vs AOS vs MOBA thing I thought MOBA was the correct term.
It isn't just the quantity of the heroes, but also the quality. It's pretty easy to mass produce heroes if you stick with passives, simple damage or apply behaviour spells and stay away from morphs and anything that involves using actors. But if you want the heroes to be more unique and make sure that the animations work properly and that there are no bugs, then you have to put in a bit more effort.
Also, heroes don't take too long to make. It only took about 2 weeks to finish the heroes and figure out how to use the editor at the same time (given I didn't sleep much those 2 weeks).
And SOTIS only has about 17 heroes.
As for a video of the map, I'm currently uploading the video to youtube, it should be done uploading in about 2 hours.

its an AoS not a dota.
I don't know if you've ever played AoS, but Dotas style departs so drastically from AoS that Dota clone would be more appropriate then AoS unless you want to go with what Riot games calls them "MoBA" (Multiplayer online battle Arena)
Only similarities between DotA and AoS was AI controlled creeps fightings. lol.
