I've discovered a few fun facts about changelings:

1. Changeling bombs work against sieged tanks.

That's right: if you drop a changeling right on top of tanks, they'll almost always blast it before it can morph.

2. Unlike Infested Terrans, changelings can be dropped in amongst tightly packed tanks.

Because their collision radius is much smaller than that of the IT, they don't get pushed to the perimeter of the tank ball when dropped. They nestle right in among them, maximising the effect of friendly fire splash damage.

3. Changelings can be ordered to hold position.

Planning a drop or a nydus worm? Try dropping some changelings in or near a choke between his army and yours, and hit H. Your opponent will have to focus fire them down individually before his army can move up to defend against the drop, buying you some time.

4. If you drop lots and lots of changelings in amongst tanks, many of them will survive (all of them if you wait until the tanks are unsieged). Order them to hold position and they work like a big fungal growth that has to be focus-fired away.

If, as I expect, all this is common knowledge, I apologise in advance.

umm only one tank would fire at the changeling due to no overkill. also changelings have 5 health meaning even an scv could deal with it
fuck the haters

True, but if you drop like 15 changelings it's not about how easy it is to kill each one, it's the fact that they're not auto targeted.

Anyhow, better off using infested terrans to bomb. They take 2 shots to kill.

True, but the splash coverage is very efficient because you can drop them right in the middle of tightly-packed tanks - it's like dropping a zergling, only it costs 50 energy instead of 25 minerals.

also changelings have 5 health meaning even an scv could deal with it

Also true, but an SCV has to be TOLD to deal with it. Remember, even detectors don't expose changelings. Position them cleverly and your opponent might not immediately realise how and why his army is being delayed/split up, and even then he has to target fire them to clear the way. Meanwhile your drop is getting free hits on his base...

How many overseers do you plan on hovering over his tankline??

Four would give you 16 changelings.

To be honest, I think the 'hold position' trick to block chokes or tangle up armies is a better use for them, slowing your opponent's response to drops or nydus and forcing him not to look at what you're doing (since he has to manually target each changeling to kill them).

ok but if the tanks are all aimed left and you drop the changeling in the middle or right with other units around. Do the turrets even spin around fast enough to shoot it before a marine, marauder, hellion, thor kills it?
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

If you have enough overseers for 16 changelings and he doesn't have vikings to deal, then you should start throwing contaminate on his factories over and over again.

If it comes to a low eco versus tanks then I guess it has some decent uses.

I guess it MIGHT be interesting if your opponent did a banshee opening and you made a bunch of overseers to deal with it anyway... but I wouldn't go for overseers JUST to do this.
