Pony Express Issue 90: Aug. 31 - Sep. 7, 2009

Kwanro decides early to spice things up a little, and starts a 5 pool against calm's 12 hatch build. As his lings hatch, kwanro even pulls 2 drones from mining, with the intention of starting sunken colonies in calm's main and ending this game fast.



Kwanro's lings arrive before calm's pool is even done, and calm retreats his drones wisely, electing to wait for his lings to spawn before engaging. In fact, calm buys a tonne of time, and his lings and sunken hatch at the cost of only 2 drones. With amazingly shitty micro, kwanro proceeds to lose most of his lings to calm's drones without doing damage, and then the ling/drone combo from calm lays waste to kwanro's sunkens.








However, it appears that kwanro is ahead now with 8 drones to calm's 6. Having cancelled his second hatchery as well, calm was definitely in a poor position. In hopes of compounding his economic advantage, kwanro begins his expansion while calm tries to tech with his few drones.

With 4 lings, calm makes a move at kwanro's nat, which is defended by 8 lings. With ling speed, he sprints past those lings and heads for kwanro's main, where he is forced to try and pick off drones from behind the mineral line.




In the meantime, calm's lair has completed and his spire is almost 3/4 done, and kwanro's lair is still glaringly absent. With his drones off gas, one can only anticipate him going for a 2 hatch "timing" ling attack (sorry my zvz sucks).



As predicted, with the completion of his ling speed and the clearing out of the guerilla lings from his main, kwanro runs his army down to calm's choke where he has lined up his lings in a pretty formation. The lings engage and calm comes out ahead, but reinforcements force him to retreat to the safety of his sunken and newly hatched mutas.





Having taken care of the ling threat at home, calm flies a couple of his mutas over to kwanro's main where they are able to hit drones that are out of range of a poorly placed spore. Hoping to force calm to pull his mutas back to defend, kwanro runs another group of lings down the map, but they are handled easily by some left over lings and a couple of new mutas. Calm attempts a ling/muta attack on kwanro, but his ling numbers are insufficient, and kwanro's defending ling/spore force him thwart the attack.






However, with kwanro's lings having left his main in preparation for a final attack, a couple of calm's lings are able to run in and do some drone damage. At this point, the game is truly lost, but kwanro keeps trying his best, running his lings into calm's newly hatched nat, looking to take it out. Calm's mutas clean up easily, and having built up a good number of muta now, calm begins sniping kwanro's drones. After a couple more futile attacks with lings and mutas from kwanro, my vod stops prematurely, but the game is already over.
