Oh you mean like one of the most dedicated players Naniwa? You know, the guy who hates to loose and play bad games, the guy who got SECOND at providence? :/

People need to stop just blindly agreeing to anything that says that naniwa was wrong just because you dislike the guy.

Well done Mr Chae. This, Teamliquid netizens, is how you write a professional statement.

To all the blind fanboys / haters, time to watch some GSL and enjoy the highest level of competition. :D

Without one of the worlds best protosses.

If he is one of the best then he can qualify next season without going 0-2 in the first round.

Code S isn't a right, it's a privilege. If you think that a private organization isn't allowed to revoke seeds as they wish, go take it up with the government and see yourself get laughed away.

I saw the thread which was removed because of consolidation of threads where the person who translated that statement apologized because that statement was actually never said. A friend of the translator said that was said and the translator believed him.

So they didn't actually call him an amateur.

gomtv's action is justified. (what he did was wrong, no excuses).
surely there's some misunderstand among everyone regarding seeds and whatnot but it doesn't change anything.

move on, why is everyone splitting hair about it?

Because most of the people are just here for the drama, it is so sad.

Wrong, we are here because GOMTV is not being honest with us. And they are to stubborn to admit that they messed up. Naniwa acted childishly, apologized and payed for it - a way higher prize than he deserved i might add.

GOMTV still has not admitted to doing anything wrong here, and they just keep lying to us. THAT'S what people are upset about.

Interestingly i can't find a single lie in GomTV's statement. There are quite a few opinions in it, which might not be true, but considering they are an opinion that is to be expected.

Regarding the code S spot there is quite some confusion, but the only persons who could know they are lying are completly silent. There is no statement from MLG, there is no statement from Naniwa or Quantic about arrangements for Code S.

Many of you think they might be lying and are willing and able to throw around the pitchforks but so far there hasn't been a single shred of evidence that they are.

It was absolutly clear that Gom would be changing their system from January onwards, no one can deny that. The Graphic of the setup has been linked and seen quite often, and to the best of my knowledge it hasn't changed a bit since November when they posted it initially (or was that back in oktober?). I assumed Naniwa would get one of those 2 code S seeds, just like many other people did (including MLG it seems) but until Gom sends out some kind of email to the player to make arrangements, or announces the names publicly nothing is fixed.

As MrChae said they were considering Naniwa but his behaviour made them change their mind. You can disagree with that decision (loudly if you want to) but there is no reason to call them liars or other swear words.

I agree with this man 100%

MLG Stating Naniwa is placed into code S
"...and earned a seat in Code S."

I don't know about the Blizzard Cup/Code S difference, but if I were a pro and I'd been told that I'd earned my spot in code S, the most highly revered tournament on the planet that every gamer strives for that also comes with continual seasons based on my performance as well as the up and downs into code A, I'd be furious to have an end-of-year tournament replace it after the fact.

Do you not find it strange, that GOM doesn't bother to correct neither the player, his team, MLG or the whole community of the false belief that naniwa has a code-S birth, and of which naniwa spoke as recently as the media day for the blizzard cup, until the day after the naniwa vs nestea match?

No because they are a korean run site, and a relatively small work force based one at that, I don't think it's their job to go around fact checking every website out there in another language, and they probably have strong belief that they can count on MLG their partners in this to properly make press releases.

That's insulting, being a westerner, we pride ourselves in sports regardless of where it originates, and regardless of which country tops the list. We also take fairness seriously here, something GOM didn't care much about when they slammed the hammer down before explaining why in a legitimate manner.

Apologise you racist person....I dont see anyone here insulting the Korean's approach to this game without being reported, yet here you are generalizing against foreigners

Too lenient punishment imo. If this were real sport, he would have been banned in the next season for his unprofessional conduct, and there would be other punishment from the team as well.

No matter how much you hate Naniwa everyone who loves and cares for esports must agree that its wrong to announce a prize for a tournament and then not deliver. Wether the prize is money, products or a code s spot doesnt matter.

If GOM are going to change the format, fine. Thats their problem, just make it work. GOM speak of respect but at the moment they are being very disrespectful of MLG.

If Naniwa was not aware he had not won a code S spot from MLG Providence and no one from GOM had informed him of that before this statement then that is properly fucked up.

ffs, just ban him from GSL completely. say you don't like his attitude and there's no room for such a behavior in the gsl.

most of your paid customers didn't buy a ticket for naniwa.

Listening to LO3 right now and I thought of a pretty interesting point. As Naniwa stated he saw that he got a Code S spot on numerous websites including MLG (A partner of GOMTV). I'm sure that GOMTV was fully aware that these statements were being made. If these statements were not truthful, they should have quickly corrected them.
I get it.

Update from Live On Three: Naniwa says that GSL never told him he had a Code S spot, he assumed he had one because MLG said so and it was reported in the media.

In most situations, in 'professional sports' (although i don't see 100% why people keep drawing these conclusions over and over again, we're slightly different, but it's a fair analogy at least), breaking disorderly conduct, or unprofessional behavior rules (none of which are clearly described ad nauseum as some people would LIKE gom to do for some strange reason) is a fine, a suspension, or both. The reason why this suspension feels so terrible is that unlike in basketball/baseball/hockey/football/soccer, a 1-5 game suspension is part of a season, but in the GSL/tournament structure, 1 day suspension means elimination from the tournament. So while it FEELS harsh, because he misses out on the entire season, the punishment, is no less severe than any other league that we can compare to.

So relieved to see the official anouncement from GOM about this whole spectacle. You really did a great job of laying the cards on the table and telling us why this all went down the way it did.

Thanks GOM! Looking forward to the next season of GSL <3

well, based on what you are saying, then MLG screwed up, not GOM.

I support GOM 100% on this decision, it was fair and justified. Even though there was no "meaning" for the tournament itself, Naniwa knew that his most expected match was against Nestea, regardless of competition.

On the contrary, if a Korean had been involved in a similar incident, it is possible that a much harsher reaction would have followed. It is also very likely that the player's team would have taken firm action before the GSL could have even reacted to it

This is also very true in my opinion.

I'm sure GOM's decision will in fact benefit Nani in the long term, and I am also sure he will participate in future GSLs through the qualifiers, which will give him the opportunity to showcase his skills like he always says he wants to.

Because GOM never told him he got the seed while MLG said he did.

And more importantly, they never corrected the belief until the day after the nestea vs naniwa match
