As soon as I loaded phase 2 of the beta and checked out the achievements I noticed the "Solo Zen Master" and its Dark Voice reward portrait. Since I had no idea how this fit into the Starcraft lore I did a little research and found this: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Voice_in_the_Darkness_(entity) http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/StarCraft:_Frontline:_Voice_in_the_Darkness I'm pretty confident the Dark Voice is the Entity described in the Starcraft: Frontline story.

Kerrigan and Arthas** Also comparing the stories like that, you're bound to find similarities in a ton of other games/literature, because it's pretty simplified. Warcraft's story has a lot more depth than just the end of wc3. With that said, they clearly like some of the ideas they created with warcraft and are reiterating them to bolster the SC story, I'm not complaining about that nearly as much as I am with how zzz the actual WoL campaign was outside of 6 missions that were actually as Protoss. I mean, really nothing major happened between the 3rd mission(making us aware that the swarm is acting after 4 years of silence) and the Char missions besides Zeratul's revelation. I LOVED the protoss missions/story, I just wish they would've done more of that with the other 20 missions.

The DNA is probably some experiment by the Xel'Naga that their scientists realized they could use to infest species with. How they managed to create such things as the Overmind, which is some kind of giant brain, and have it link up to the individual zerg creatures is anyone's guess. It certainly makes you suspect the Overmind was there first, and any zerg units came second and were the result of deliberate adjustment by it. There have been numerous missions were zerg units without control are basically aggressive creatures attacking everything, though this is in nature with them being beasts that were changed to become suitable for combat. I don't see how they ever could have a similar storyline with the Orcs as with the zerg. Zerg units are by definition amoral, they have no consciousness. The only actual intelligence was the Overmind, a being that can control other zerg units, but it had no free will, just intelligence. I would guess the Xel'Naga deliberately created it to just be some kind of self-adjusting computer program, but that it developed consciousness which the Xel'Naga hadn't counted on. If they were succesful in stopping the Overmind from maintaining consciousness is probably something that they will answer in Heart of the Swarm. With Kerrigan not in control of the zerg there will likely be plenty of restless zerg units, and some cerebrates aiming for controlling as many of them as possible, but they won't ever be good and/or cuddly. Even considering the Overmind being controlled to launch all his invasions, its most logical behaviour if it had free will would be to secure his control over the zerg brood, most likely not through aggressiveness, as that would just provoke counter-attacks, but it's not inconceivable that he would realize that he could ultimately only be safe by destruction of protoss and terran.

Odds are, Kerrigan will be the one who kills Mengsk and unites the species against the Dark Voice, thus fulfilling the prohecy. Heart of the Swarm will follow her as she slowly regains control of the zerg, and Legacy of the Void will be the final battle between the Koprolu Races, the Xel'naga, and the Dark Voice.

The Protoss rely on the Khala to link each and every Aiur Protoss together like a single consciousness, sound familiar? The Zerg rely on a single consciousness to direct their civilization. It is their drive to assimilate the best in everything they come across, which is what happened to Kerrigan, she was the best Ghost that the Terran Confederacy had created. The purest forms of the two races, the drive to assimilate knowledge and the drive to perfect, are the basic traits of the Xel'Naga. Which is why it was shocking to realize, that when the Zerg and Protoss combine, they BECOME the Xel'Naga. The genetic hybrid that Samir Duran has been messing with is the incorrect way for this to happen. Which is why stopping him and his Protoss counterpart, Ulrezaj is so important. And to make things worse, because the Xel'Naga were actually destroyed by the Zerg, they weren't able to complete the changes they may have wanted to instill into the Zerg (The hungerer instilled upon the overmind a compulsion to find Aiur and destroy the protoss). And thus, we have a break in this seemingly endless cycle. The proper way for this combination to happen, is by utilizing the powerful energies of the crystals by which the Xel'Naga powered their amazing technology. In the book 'Legacy of the Xel'Naga' the Xel'Naga temple yielded an unprecedented lifeform that was fed the energies of the Zerg and Protoss. Absorbed into this lifeform, it sprang to life, and flew off into the universe, never to be seen from again. The powerful life-giving energies that lingered in that temple is the same energy that is required to combine the essence of the Protoss with the Zerg. Creating a genetic imitation of this is not the right way for this to happen. Creating an imitation of this utilizing the wrong type of energy also creates an abomination that spells trouble for the rest of the universe, as Ulrezaj has done so far. (For those of you who don't know, Ulrezaj is the most powerful Dark Archon to have ever existed) The cerebrates are dead, all of them. Kerrigan slayed the remaining ones after broodwar to ensure she was the sole ruler. I don't see how they ever could have a similar storyline with the Orcs as with the zerg. There is a thin line between manipulated (lol drinking mannaroths blood that sends you into endless fury) and outright controlled. Most likely Kerrigan is the only one that can battle for control over the swarm against The Hungerer (Duran) as long as there is zerg left to fuse with protoss it will most likely be fine though. Mengsk has known about the prophecy all along, and knew it would be Kerrigan that would fulfill it. He attempted to kill her by leaving her on Tarsonis, but in a bold act, the Overmind saved her instead and made her into its successor. way to overly adapt new knowledge with old. It was not untill after the overmind altered kerrigan that there was hope for the galaxy, i really doubt Mensk knew right then and there about anything hybrid but i could be wrong.

I think it's likely that Mengsk has been under control of the Dark Voice since before the uprising. If the Voice really is a fallen Xel'naga (and I'm 99% sure that it is), then it has known about the prophecy for a very long time, and is probably influencing Mengsk to thwart it. If I'm interpreting the scenes from Piercing the Shroud correctly, then the Voice is trying to converge the DNA of the protoss and zerg prematurely, thus carrying out the plans of the Xel'naga himself and then using the Hybrids to defeat them. Kerrigan is the only hope of stopping this, by killing Mengsk, and then regaining control of the Zerg to fight against the Dark Voice. Just my theory! I think it fits pretty well, I don't see any reason for Mengsk to be creating Hybrids without some motivation from the Voice. His elaborate plan to kill Kerrigan can't *just* be for glory and safety. EDIT: Since it's pretty obvious that Duran is the Dark Voice, he could also be an influencing factor in Mengsk's rule. Maybe Mengsk isn't directly under his control, but Duran is pulling more of 'Wormtongue' type deal where he subtly rules from the shadows.

+ Show Spoiler + Kerrigan still retains little of her power over the swarm, and the campaign will be here focusing her powers into controlling the swarm.

+ Show Spoiler + I was daydreaming a bit after finishing the campaign and was thinking a bit about what would happen in hots and what i came up with was. 1. infested kerrigan had the same corruption as the overmind had (zeratul and tassadar were talking about this) and now she's free from the corruption, and she still has the zerg gene (therefore she has the zerg hair still) 2. she will build up her army and gain more psionic power trough mutations and gain more zerg units (WOOOOO LURKARZZZZ) and with this power take down whatever the fallen one is doing (though not meet him really, he's hiding and still building up his hybrid army) 3. with this power she and with the corruption gone she'll help raynor build up a new terran power that will overthrow the dominion and gain power to the terrans to prepare them what is about to come (the fallen one trying to annihilate the terrans) and stuff like that. now we've got 2 huge armies, zerg and terrans and what's gonna happen in the last expansion (protoss one) is that zeratul will unite the dark templars into one big faction and with the help from them gather the remaining protoss and rebuild their home on aiur (he'll also help the tal'darim regain sanity and provide their big army for the protoss) in the end we'll have a massive cliche OMG WE WERE FIGHTING EACHOTHER A YEAR AGO AND NOW WE'RE FRIENDS TO KILL A BIGGER POWER (-yo starcraft! warcraft here, i hear yo be stealin' mah plot)

He attempted to kill her by leaving her on Tarsonis, but in a bold act, the Overmind saved her instead and made her into its successor. Frustrated, Mengsk realized that he would not be able to simply kill Kerrigan in her new, more powerful form. So, he tracks down the pieces of the Xel'naga relic that was said to return her to her human form. He lets Tychus Findlay free, instructing him to find and assist Raynor in recovering the artifact, and then kill Kerrigan when she was weakened. His plan was working perfectly, with Raynor and Findlay returning Kerrigan to human form, until Raynor kills his best friend and saves her instead. This, in my opinion, sounds very very reasonable. Makes sense too. Only time will tell I suppose.

dark voice i'm guessing was a xel-naga at some point, so it'll be kinda like in warcraft with sargaras being a fallen titan. maybe not though, cos some of those links make it look like it's older than the xel-naga, so in that case it would be more akin to the old gods. actually there's always been similarities between starcraft and warcraft storylines and i think that's fine. when you're writing epics like this there's only so much myth and folklore you can draw on to make it resonate. it doesn't bother me that zerg will be on the 'good' side of the fight at some point, cos the zerg are essentially biological weapons anyway - it's who's controlling them that matters. even if the overmind was being influenced by something far more threatening, it still was designed with the biological drive to consume other lifeforms. but that's just it - it was designed. without the xel'naga the zerg would still just be parasitic little worms on some out-of-the-way planet. they're a genetic experiment that's boiled out of control, and now someone has to control it. the overmind was powerful enough to figure out that it wasn't totally in control, it was being controlled by this dark voice, so it created kerrigan as a failsafe measure, knowing that she was powerful enough to keep the zerg 'weapon' (or at least some of the zerg) out of the hands of this dark voice. man i'm so excited to see what happens next.

Ok here my understanding of the story Blizzard is trying to tell in sc2 and its expansions...... Basically the greatest threat and only one thats ever existed even in SC1,thou we did not know that at the time, was is THE Voice in the Darkness or the Void Conqueror....better know in the game as The Fallen one..... ANyone who doesnt get that hole doomsday plot where Kerrigans dead and the final toss are exterminated read this wiki page: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Voice_in_the_Darkness_(entity) Many thanks to the guy who provided it,it explains a whole lot, about who he is,why are hybrids needed in the first place, how he can possess other beings on a pcyhonic level like the overmind, who was basically utilizing the same void energies as the dark templar....in sc1...Hes the master of the VOID between the stars, maybe a fallen or exiled Xelnaga, after all they predate the stars,so what theve set in motion may have taken countless eons, long before the creation of both the toss and zerg.... SO this explains why he cant consume the protoss, since their connection to the Kahla(he can consume psyhonic terrans however for the same reason-no Khala,), so instead he seeks to annihilate them using the zerg....now as to the hybrids theyre simply the next step, the more powerful tool to achive their goals, they posses both the toss powerful psyhonic abilities, but like the zerg can be controlled.....and are way more powerful then the zerg themselves, which it seems are just a step... In a nutshell it seems he took, one of the Xelnaga's creations, twisted it and used it to destroy the other, because he despises The Xelnagas constant cycle over the millenia, which it sees as unnatural.T They basically using theyre vast technological and psyhonic understanding to move across the stars and manipulate the evolution of various species,as to culminate in their rebirth,an act that has gone for so long that many actually see as a natural part to the universe...... Maybe he was a Xelnaga that disagreed with this act of manipulation, hence Fallen one...witch would mean he isnt inherently evil either,THAT seems to be a constant to blizz storytelling in starcraft....neither the zerg or this dude are evil in nature....He seeks to undo centuries of genentic tamperin.... AS TO WOL,it was a very human story, with id imagine the next 2 wont be... It dealt with the characters emotions, motivation and in general what goes on inside their head, lot more that with the wars, prophecies themselves......A humans struggle to survive and hold on to his sanity....how this atrocities have affected him.... On that note the ending was very human and personal, that moment he holds her in his hands, was also depicted in the book Queen of Blades, which depicts the zerg campaign of he original.Theres a chapter about how Rainer dreams of Kerrigan being human again, holding here in his armt... It was a very nice touch and honestly brought a tear to my eye......Next expansion im guessing the zerg will fight for their freedom from the fallen ones influence ,with Kerrigan as the main character....After all blizz did say the exp were in chronological order..... Like all Blizz stories it needs perspective but when you get its pretty awsome and complex...

Yes, the only infested black guy will make his comeback to control the swarm. Maybe kerigan will still hold some control over the broods but I'm rooting for duran and his crazy experiments
