+ Show Spoiler [DON'T READ IF AVOIDING SPOILATION] +I only played through WoL on normal, because I wanted to get through the campaign quickly to avoid spoilers on the internets. I avoided any thread talking about the storyline but did see discussion that the campaign story was cheesy and boring.
I agree in part, but when you get to Char you can't dispute that it's epic and feeds Starcraft lore hungry beast inside all of us nerds. I knew Tychus was bad, I knew Raynor wanted to save Kerrigan, but it satisfied me seeing it all unfold and just like a TV Soap the ending left me wanting to see the next part and carry on with the story.
To give this thread a purpose, can we speculate what the Heart of the Swarm will bring us lore/story wise?
inb4 "We've just paid for this game why should we be looking forward to the next game already". - Tell me it wasn't an experience? Piloting Vultures and Goliaths.Seeing the next part of the story that most of us have waited over 10 years for. We all have multiplayer, which is what we're all really here for right? The coming year will bring more SC developments than we've seen in recent years as pro's come up with unthinkable strategy and unit comps + find micro tricks. I can't wait
PS: I would have put a bullet in Kerrigans head aswell as Tychus' She must play a big role in HotS ?

+ Show Spoiler + 1. i dont think tycus died, cause jim knew his suit is booby trapped and valerian / acturus are not to be trusted. 2. he cant kill kerrigan, cause zeratul told him to save her, or else.... 3. i am actually guessing that HotS would tell the story from kerrigan's perspective during the time leading up to her "rescue", in other words, a partial prequel to WoL.

Interesting.
From Kerrigans POV would be nice

I think she was saved and returned to her Human form but she still might have a connection with the Swarm or something. Quote Zeratul said "You will hold her life in your HANDS...", Raynor was holding Kerrigan at the dead Zerg Base and Tychus nearly killed her, so in a way Raynor did hold her life in his hands. Just a thought.
We will see in HotS.

she still has the hair... from her prospective it would be really dumb and the story wont progress on. I think she will still have her power and help defeat the dominion and xel naga.
|
I'm pretty sure heart of the swarm will be about Kerrigan and the overmind. It's going to be interesting see if Kerrigan wil react to being the one hope against the Zelanaga(I know I mispelled...please don't attack me for it!). I think that Kerrigan is going to retain her psi connection to the zerg and it will make her return to lead them against what ever threatens them(I at least I think she retains a connection each zerg creature)

The ending, I felt, was the best they could have made it. I like threads like this, reading creative ideas on where HotS will take us, but we can't practically guess the plot, as its 1) Open ended (Mengsk saga, hybrids, new zerg, etc) and 2) WoL wraps up fairly nicely. This second point is specifically why I enjoyed the ending - while WoL may not have accomplished what we thought it would, it accomplished its own plot and didn't leave many loose ends beyond major plot developments to come.
+ Show Spoiler +All that said, I think HotS will be a conflict on two fronts - Humanity/Protoss..ity's continued pursuit of (a turned good) Kerrigan, and Kerrigan's battle with the hybrids over control of the swarm. Mengsk's son likely is under the influence of Samir Duran Dr. Narud, and some sort of descision arises between keeping Arcturas in power or letting space arthas Valarian assist the hybrids through the dominion. Also, I'd be surprised if the Protoss agenda didn't play a larger role.
|
Heart of the Swarm will probably put the hybrids into the main story arc a lot more instead of just being in secret and side missions. The title Heart of the Swarm makes me think that it will probably be centered on a battle for control of the Zerg from the hybrids. Now that Kerrigan isn't infested she doesn't have control over the zerg so somehow they have to avoid being totally screwed over by the fallen one.
What I don't get is why Mengsk is helping develop hybrids? Seriously I mean it doesnt take a genius to realize that hybrids would be a huge threat to the dominion's power, going and destroying everything and whatnot.
also I would put spoiler boxes on this but I don't know how :/

I think we all want to see the hybrids come in to the story more. Imagine playable hybrids ^^;;;;

I agree that not only would it be useless to kill off one of the most intriguing characters, but i think Tychus survived somehow, even though it's not shown in the final few frames. Raynor has gotten good at disabling Tychus apparently (like in the bar fight) without killing him. I REALLY hope Tychus comes back.
I like the prequel idea for HoS, but at the end of that game you would still have allthe questions from WoL unanswered. It would be cool if Kerrigan could still control the swarm but be on the good side, but have to maybe re-learn her powers or go on a quest to gather all the hive clusters. Then she and Raynor could definitely take on Mengsk. But then we don't know how deep Mengsk is in with the hybrid creators/Duran, so maybe he's getting their help to keep his Dominion alive, not knowing it will be the thing that undoes them all.

Tychus died. It specifically says that if you go to the Single Player screen after you beat it.
Also, Blizzard has confirmed that the next game (HotS) will be focused on Kerrigan in a more RPG-style way (building up her strengths instead of customizing your army).

If HotS did turn out to be a prequel then it means Kerrigan would have to become infested again - because in the Protoss missions that were set in the future Kerrigan still ruled the Zerg. Think about it.....

The only mission that was set in the future was Utter Darkness and it was pretty clear that Kerrigan was dead then.

In Utter Darkness was the Overmind's vision of the future, the other ones were a copy of Zeratul's memories placed in crystal, he had already done those.

maybe the title Heart of the Swarm alludes to something?? I could be reading into it too much tho
|
wings of liberty didn't allude to anything (mensk is still emperor), other than maybe some kind of second name to the hyperion, so hots probably won't either.
btw, somehow I think that kerrigan still has control over the zerg, but now is cleansed of her zerg-ish nature to simply destroy and dominate everything.

To be honest I hope the hybrids don't play too big of a role, it feels like they are just some random "super" race added to be superior to the the SC1 "super" races (Z and P). At least in SCBW you had Duran acting all mysterious and shifting everyone else to meet his goals, while the hybrids in WoL had no central hero (or at least rememberable, I don't remember the name of the Hybrid that was talking to you during Utter Darkness).
Selendis needs to play more of a role on HotS I think, her and Artanis seem like they would be a good combo in terms of storytelling. I really don't know what blizzard is going to do with Zerg heroes in HotS though, unless they are going to bring back Cerebrates (although they can't really fight so I doubt it). Bring Duran back to rule the Zerg!

I agree with HotS being from Kerrigan's perspective, but I think the storyline will go like SC1 and BW, where there is partial overlap in time, and then goes to the future. While doing this, the story is progressed (the temporal overlap progresses the story as well) by revealing new things you did not know before, as well as showing the next sequence of events once the stories meet up.
Basically, there is an intersection point between the two perspectives (kerrigan and jimmy meet up on char), at which point the continuation of events is told from the new character's perspective (kerrigan).
