The campaign is focused on Infested Kerrigan and the development of a zerg empire. The campaign operates similarly to an RPG, in which Kerrigan is focused on increasing her personal power through mutations. Zerg armies protect her as she garners this power. The greater her power, the more zerg she's able to control. Like Wings of Liberty, the player will be presented with choices as to which missions to carry out and which units to get, but such choices won't be based on cash. Both the missions and their objectives are intended to be quite different from the ones featured in Wings of Liberty.
So prequel-ish to WoL is my guess.

I suppose it's possible, but it's also possible she's rebuilding her empire after the damage caused by the artifact to her and her armies. IE, those mutations she's doing to increase her power are bringing her back from the kerrigan at the end of WoL back to regular infested kerrigan. Which is to say, if after being 'saved' by raynor, she's still the same spiteful zerg bitch that we loved through all of broodwar.

i feel like the story isnt really done for the terrans, i mean they didnt take out mengsk, tht leaves me wondering will there be a sc3 if so i dont wana be 30 when im playing it.....
Also why does mengsk want kerrigan dead, how did he know tychus would ever get that close to her, does he know about the future and the hybrids? why was mengsk so shocked when his son took half the dominion fleet. will there be many missions that you play the terrans in the up comming expansios because the story isnt done they really only collected artifacts and showed up mengsk. all these questions were left unanswered in WoL.
|
well from the history of BW, Mengsk really hated Kerrigan.
Mengsk himself are clearly aware of the dangers of the Zerg. 1. He used Z to destroy Tarsonis, and therefore defeated the Confederacy. 2. UED used Z to invade Korhal 3. Mengsk relied on Kerrigan and Z to retake Korhal
So clearly Mengsk knows that Z can not be left unchecked. He also knows that Kerrigan hates him for what hes done.

+ Show Spoiler + Well if you guys remember the last protoss mission, in that mission is only protoss against zerg and hybrids. This means that first, humanity is done for before this happens; and second, the hybrids gain control of the zerg somehow. My guess is that in heart of the swarm the hybrids would take control of the zerg in place of kerrigan, but kerrigan maybe didnt lose all her zerg abilities and still have partial control of zerg, or something like that. As if kerrigan is the only one that can stop the hybrids from controlling the zerg. I don't think it will be a "replay" of kerrigans past, it can have some flashback missions but it would be pointless to have it like that all the way.
Btw... anyone else feeling that the hybrid bad guy with red eyes sounds too much like Tassadar? Overmind + Tassadar = ???????
|
+ Show Spoiler +My complete guess after I finished the campaign earlier was that Kerrigan would retain some of her power over the swarm, leading to playing from kerrigan's perspective, controlling the zerg from her point of view. I doubt it will be a prequel though, although it will probably have a lot of flashbacks to when kerrigan was the queen of blades. She'll probably fill Raynor and everybody in on the juicy details of the xel'naga's return.

Well, my mind just got blown.

Anyone notice how the villain always thinks that reversing their name will make them impossible to find? Duran could have done better if he ddin't want to be found...which means that secrecy isn't important. Which could mean that he rules the dominion and mengsk is just a puppet, or that he belives he can rule the zerg(but kerrigan should be able to retain some sort of connection with her psi powers).
|
i was fairly disappointed by the story but im still looking forward to seeing HotS cause the mission designs in WoL were mindblowing and can only get better in the next chapter. the only thing i dread is the continuation of the lame, corny story that they started in WoL + Show Spoiler +unite all races under a common banner? zerg are the instrument to our salvation? wtf... it would have been amazing but that plot twist is already a cliche.

Did you ever play CastleVania? in every other game, dracula changes his name to alucard, and nobody notices.
And the only thing that the story accomplished is a weaker kerrigan, so you can start the campaign with zerg lings again

imo, if they wanna play with the letters, at least make an anagram instead of simply reversing the name.
like Samir Duran in SC2 should be Nara Rimdus.
SC2 story is so obvious, especially those UNN newscasts.

I wouldn't be surprised to see kerrigan make more of a transition to a protoss being, as well as retaining zerg powers, Remember the hybrid gloated on zeratul when all the protoss were wiped out in his vision of the future, he said something like, "You killed the only one that could have been a nuisance" which was referring to kerrigan. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if she gained some protoss training to make her the only one capable of defeating Maar and the xel naga hybrids. Its the same old story like in many movies, the "chosen" one who is the only person who can defeat <insert evil bad guy>.

HotS will clearly need Daggoth to make up for the lame Kerrigan in WoL.

I groaned when they whipped that out. Not only is it an incredibly cliche plot twist, but Blizzard did the exact same thing in Warcraft.
"Oh no! The zerg are killing all the innocent Terran! Those evil little bugs!" "Oh no! The orcs are killing all the innocent Humans! Those evil giant green things."
"Oh wait! The zerg are actually being forced to act against their will by some higher power." "Oh wait! The orcs are actually being forced to act against their will by the Burning Legion."
"Thank god for the zerg. In the end they will save us!" "Thank god for the Orcs! At the battle of Mt. Hyjal they will help save us."
Recycled plot devices are recycled.
