Haven't played this game before, but this has peaked my interest in it. Is Victoria II hard to pick up if you've never played Paradox's strategy games before?

Probably the hardest given that not every nation is quite playable, the economy system and great wars. Start with Europa Universalis III or Crusader Kings II if you wish to grab Grand Strategy.

It's one of the easiest when it comes to strategy and wars, but you have so much more to do than it I would recommend Europa Universalis too.

1. dont say "peaked my interest"
2. Try EU3, CK2 is also nice, but its more about your dynastie and interaction with people, so its quite different from playing a country.

Tosa will not stand for these foreign incursions. Tosa will do what China could not, and take Korea under her wing.

Meanwhile, people are fighting over the right to oppress each other.

The time is now! To do what Hideyoshi could not!

Rather than invade from the South, like Hideyoshi did, the Daimyo of Tosa proposes a novel tactic. By launching an amphibious invasion at Incheon, it will be possible to bisect Korea, denying both halves the support of the other. Finally, the Koreans agree to be protected by Tosa. The Daimyo gracefully accepts stewardship of the Korean border provinces, while granting the usual autonomy to the middle provinces. Has nothing to do with infamy. Nope.

Seriously, my income has just increased by a factor of 8. This protection shit is pretty profitable.

The Daimyo is caught with a geisha. Despite the fact that this is common practice and that Kurisu-chan religion has not spread on Japan, apparently this pisses off the people that don't have enough money to afford one.

The Daimyo finds it odd that he somehow had a colonial issue with a strange nation that he has never heard of. A nation where instead of eating rice and fish, they eat skewered meat on a stick. The Daimyo is not sure why anyone would want to eat that, and resolves to get rid of it as soon as possible.
