I hope you enjoy your time in the lab (training mode) I first recommend that you concentrate 100% on the characters moves, you should be able to see where your characters limb is when you hit the link. For example the link for Cammys cr.hp to cr.mk xx spiral arrow When you hit the opponent with cr.hp cammy slides backword's then right when shes at maximum distance you hit the cr.mk and it will link. Once you get this down pretty well and are able to see when you should link it then you just need to work on your muscle memory and for this. Personally I find it helpful to have something else to watch and or do while I'm doing link training. I have a netbook that I setup upon the side of my desk and put on a stream for something then I just practice doing the combo over and over while putting 1/2 of my attention on my netbook and the other half on getting my link down. You mostly just need to get muscle memory for it so just doing it over and over is the only way you're going to be able to reliably hit the link.

I'll be shocked if there are any teams/sponsors out there providing a player(s) a large enough salary that a day job isn't needed. I'd imagine most teams/sponsors really only support their players via providing free hardware and covering travel/lodging/food costs when sending them off to some tournament. there definitely isn't enough tournament money out there for players to make a living off of. only exceptions that come to mind are people like Mike Ross and Gootecks and that is because of their youtube videos and selling Cross Counter TV videos and not because of their team/sponsors. i don't think the fgc chooses anything. they can only go in the direction that people choose to go to. it's not a very unified body. as far as being people being full time pros, that's still a long ways off. there are many real sports that can't achieve this. i remember reading that quite a few MLS players still have part time jobs. i think a majority of olympians can't achieve it either. monetizing fighting games is pretty difficult. relying on tournament payouts for your next meal is not enviable or desirable and definitely will not help long term growth. there's also uncertainty about your game; who knows how long sf4 will last? gaming is a place where what's new is almost always what's better. all the old mvc2 people who have reached a high level, now find themselves learning a completely new system in mvc3. for me, i think growth really happens in getting smaller scenes to interact with the bigger ones. there's a lot of people that play that aren't aware of how to get involved that would really enjoy it. i think that's the next step in blowing up the FGC. growth also occurs as the scene branches out. top players have moved on to game design positions. the TE stick was instrumental in changing MadCatz's image, before they were just the company that made crappy peripherals that always broke. even as a business i don't think the fanbase of serious fighting gamers is enough to sustain it as a full time job; it definitely needs more growth, exposure, and interested parties. that's why i'm happy that it's a community effort driving it's growth, and that it will continue to grow in a way that doesn't outpace it's demand.

how come sometimes when I go for a cross up mk into cr.lp, cr.lk, cr.hp, the cr.hp will whiff sometimes, and sometimes not, is there a trick for the cr.hp to not whiff?? its so annoying when I go for a crossup mk on someones wake up and the cr.hp will whiff and I eat a DP - I know cr.lp cr.lk cr.hp is char specific, but I'm pretty sure it should work on ryu also... can anyone give me tips to GET IN?!?!? its so frustrating not being able to DO ANYTHING... I played online and I never got an opening to score knock down I just get out footsied and owned... which leads me to another thing... once I do score a knockdown a shoto will does DP on his wake up and beat me everytime.. I can never time my meaty jump mk - is there a "trick" or a method to time the meaty (like whiffing a normal attack or something) I thought Ihad sakura down playin with my friends, and doing the combos in training mode... but I went online and went like 2-10.. .so yea... its really frustrating edit: thanks in advance for the help... amazing how a scii forum is more useful than the srk forums when it comes to responses- you guys are awesome :D

When it comes to linking, is it normal to spam an attack a bit? Or is it always spot on? For example, I main Ken, meaning that if i want to do jump h.k, h.k, m.p shoryuken, focus attack, i spam h.k maybe 3-5 times while in the air. I find that if i start at the right time, keep tapping h.k until a certain point of the animation and immediately switch off to the shoryuken i can pull the combo off. Otherwise I sometimes miss time the second h.k. Is this a bad habit? or should i continue to learn my stuff this way? edit: wait, i think this is for chaining, not linking. Iunno 0.o. Someone help a noob out :D.

Yes, you can mash buttons, but I don't think it's a good habit because this behavior will end up really affecting your ability to do 1-2 frame link inputs later on. But I must say, it is a lot more fun to play as Ken if you mash.

I played online and I never got an opening to score knock down I just get out footsied and owned... which leads me to another thing... walk forward, play footsies and try to get a c.mk - DP to knockdown. you can also experiment with hurricane kicks, but remember that hk hurricane is -3 on block. you can also try finding sweet spots to jump in from. there are ranges where they have to walk forward to anti-air, and ranges where they can't do anything even if they do walk forward. i don't know what you're doing because there's no video. once I do score a knockdown a shoto will does DP on his wake up and beat me everytime.. I can never time my meaty jump mk - is there a "trick" or a method to time the meaty (like whiffing a normal attack or something) bait the DP and punish? don't get frustrated when he DPs you? honestly unless it's a DP FADC ultra, it really doesn't do that much damage. remember DP is one of the faster counters. i'm not sure what your setup is. I thought Ihad sakura down playin with my friends, and doing the combos in training mode... but I went online and went like 2-10.. .so yea... its really frustrating 2-10?! you only played 12 matches? how can you be frustrated? stop focusing on your record, focus on why you lost and what you need to do in order to do better. and get ready to grind hundreds of matches.

Unsure if there will be a stream or not. If there is, my friend "mehtbh" will be playing his Blanka tomorrow so if you see him on stream, cheer for him.

Divekick at an angle such that it hits the lower portion of their body so you get frame advantage on block. 2. Ex Lunge also gives you frame advantage on block. 3. Ex shoulder through fireballs. 4. I believe Kayane's going and Ryan Hart I reckon will be too Have fun man and keep us updated Yeah you can just go for one day. £12.50 entry on the day (which I didn't know about until just now). You should come. We live pretty close iirc. http://neoempire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11638 There's a source. While I'm on this subject, I think it's a bit much to mention that one day passes are available two days before the event. No where on any of the websites did it say it would be possible to get a one day pass before then.
