Hello, my name is Zilea, I am currently a mid level zerg master player.
I used to be a professional World of Warcraft player and consider myself to be a seasoned player when it comes to playing in front of thousands of people. I have competed in the 2009/2010 US online qualifiers, 2009/2010 US regional qualifiers and 2009 Blizzcon for the global finals, along with an MLG event. In addition, I have been very involved in the community and used to write for www.worldofming.com and www.sixjaxgaming.com, so I hope you at least recognize my name from somewhere.
I have an extreme knack for excellence in everything I do and intend to do the same in Starcraft 2, while providing an entertaining stream and providing commentary on opponents, builds, and of course connecting with the viewers/community.
I have just purchased a new computer so that I can A) play the latest games on maximum graphic settings (because my current pc is far too old now) and B) so that I can stream with crisp quality and FPS. I have 10 mb/s download and 1.5 mb/s upload, which is perfect for streaming. My new computer arrives Monday, June 20. Update: I will begin streaming on Tuesday, June 21st at justin.tv/zilea.
What you can expect from this stream: 1) Extremely entertaining commentary. If you have had the pleasure of watching me stream WoW in the past, you know that I am very entertaining, annoying, and stupid all at the same time. 2) To watch a mid level master playing and attempt to make it to high master and eventually grand master. 3) Lots of cheese used against me. I don't know if I am a cheese magnet, but it happens an awful lot to me. 4) An enormous amount of bad manner due to said cheese. This is not something I purposely do to get viewers, but simply a result of my very bad temper when I feel like my opponents are awful players.
I am very confident this stream will become one of the best in due time. Like I said before, everything I play or do in life I do with extreme precision. I don't do things to be second rate. I aim for the top.

LOL last night my friend was just talking about how badmannered you were when he played you. something bout you screaming protoss imba when in fact you had horrible macro and mechanics. this stream already sounds like a clear winner.

Apparently when a Hydralisk Brood lord army ( 5 roaches lol) dies to FOURTEEN high templar storming it the reason you lose is because protoss is overpowered. This is after KA removal I was warping in so many hts because he only made hydras.
I highly recommend everybody to read the Zilea posts in the thread. They are some of the funniest things I've ever read.
Wasn't there a foreigner that won some tournament WAY back in SC1 called Zileas? Does that happen to be you?
I really doubt it. Zileas was an MIT grad who won some Battle.net tournament back in SC1 before there was a distinction between foreigners and Koreans.

I've also played this person on Bnet. Basically when he loses, he rages about how "unskilled" his opponents are. Then he continues on about how he is "making money" by streaming and playing and hence he is superior to all other players on Bnet.
Basically he couldn't continue making a name for himself in WoW and now tried to move into the SC2 Community.

Nah there's almost never anything professional for PvE, even though there are guild rankings for that
There is (or was?) some sparse tournaments for PvP arenas and such. That last one was kind of a silly statement, many people could say the same about sc2. Just because you're top 8 masters doesn't mean you're pro. You have to be successful in tournaments in both games.
I never followed the scene so I don't know too much though..

He was pro as in when the game had tournaments and was somewhat competitive, he got carried by two magnificent players (all the while playing a brain-dead composition).

There used to be quite a bit of tournaments but sadly that scene died quite fast. ESL, MLG, and blizzcon were some of the major ones. The tournaments are in the 3v3 format btw. But because of the fact that you essentially needed to be sponsored to get to these events, most of the time it was the same teams showing up and no diversity.

also zilea was never a "professional" wow player, they did exist but he was not one, unless winning a single tournament contested between 8 teams, maybe 2 of which had any kind of salary or sponsor means you are a pro

He felt the need to tell me how awesome he is, but after watching the replay, it's clear he has a weak understanding of the ZvP match up and is just plain bad at multitasking/macro. Also i'd like to note im not defending WoW as an esport as I know from first hand experience all the problems that will keep it from ever becoming a true esport. But it really wasn't a terrible game for the time i spent playing it. Just don't see how someone with 0% experience in competitive arena could think about forming a post like this. Competitive arena takes up alot less time then almost any other game. You can't compare it to the mmo side.

Sure, if you put it in that perspective, but consider this, you can play 5 hours of Starcraft II and go take a run, or play some football with friends, or hell, lift weights like inControL, but WoW is just wrong. I had this friend start playing WoW and every time my friends and i wanted to do something he was "in raid". We're gamers too, but seriously, WoW eats up all your time.
Sorry to get off topic, and not to defend wow but I did wanna try and clear something up. Yes wow arena was easy, much easier than Sc2 overall I think. I'm pretty sure at the pro level wow arena was also much easier than SC2 at the pro level, but in wow tournaments you could not use any addons, so to play wow at the MLG or blizzcon level really was a lot harder than some people give it credit for. One of the reasons normal arena was so easy I think was because addons could carry so well, I'm sure it got much harder once you had to take away those addons.
That said, I feel like the whole "extremely BM player" niche is already taken, and honestly doesn't add to the community, I don't think it's the best direction to try and go into.
edit: to poster above me, there is a big difference between hardcore raiding in wow, and arena in wow. Raiding required 25 people to be on at the same time (or for casual guilds 10, or back in the original wow 40) So it had to be schedule and structured. Arena took 3 people, so it was much more do when you want thing when you and your 2 partners could play whenever the 3 of you could get on at the same time.

Lol, its his choice to raid instances, which is not even the game's fault. I can even have a friend who chooses to play sc2 for 10 hours and refuse to socialize, it is HIS choice, not that the game wastes lives or w/e. Any addictive game "wastes" lives if you play a lot

Well, I do have MMO experience but I gave up on griding MMO's the day i turned 16 and switched to competitive games like WC3 and DotA, then SC2. And is WoW played "competitively" anywhere else besides blizzcon ?.

in wow you need to find 2 other people who will log in at the same time as you to q up 3v3, once you q, if your at a high enough level, you may not even get a game for 20 minutes if your MMR is higher then anyone qing. (this was changed this patch tho so mass qing is prob possible)
@person above me, ya it was played competitiviy at MLG for about 2-3 years. twixz himself won a championship (national?) there with complexity. the competitive scene has died out though as many pros seemed to have switched to games like BLC and sc2 as only having WCG and blizzcon is probably not worth it

There was about 8 Major U.S lan events a year and maybe 5 or 6 more worldwide for the year. It was played at IEM and MLG before. A Korean team actually somewhat dominated in the scene, winning the IEM and MLG once. I think there was a korean pro scene as well.

Sure, they don't have to PvE, but the reality is a good portion of PvPers also do PvE content and in some ways it's mandatory for certain classes (at least it was when I played)

Also as long as TR is up for the 5-6 months its up most players don't care about live at all. Some never cared about live, and some spent all day laddering. I mean it varies just like any other game it's no different in that regard.

Hafu is playing BLC tournaments and the rest is mostly stuck in WoW with exception of smarter ones who moved to BLC and SC2 but it's not as easy transition as from WC3.

Sure, if you put it in that perspective, but consider this, you can play 5 hours of Starcraft II and go take a run, or play some football with friends, or hell, lift weights like inControL, but WoW is just wrong. I had this friend start playing WoW and every time my friends and i wanted to do something he was "in raid". We're gamers too, but seriously, WoW eats up all your time.

There have been tons of top players from other games slaving just as many games as WoW top players and not getting anywhere near as good, barely scraping Gladiator. Examples are the entire old mouz CS squad as well as HeatoN, Tyler etc.
I agree however that it would've been rather easy for a competitive mind to just roll fotm and be successful with that.

Actually being BM is a pretty surefire way to get recognized. Idra, Destiny, Orb, GosiTerrran, yadda yadda yadda.
The thing is, those players (minus Orb) are actually good at the game and their rage is more of a funny poking thing. I'm sure Idra is completely calm as he's typing to someone to apologize for playing that race.
Zilea just gives off the impression of red-eyed-tears-flowing-down-face-frothing-at-the-mouth retard rage. Every single game he loses he'll call it a cheese and then spend half an hour messaging you about how he makes so much money playing SC2. His MMR is at like high Diamond level too.

I would expect Zilea to play protoss to be honest. They have shields like a paladin.

Reliza (played RMP with redhot for regionals) is waiting for his GM promotion.

yeah honestly, this guy is very BM. I remember playing him on ladder and he bm'd me at the end of the game and proceeded to message me and BM me there. i don't think wow is a game that takes a whole lot of skill (i think it's ridiculously easy, actually), but when people who can't even post on AJ called zilea bad at wow here on TL it sort of bothers me

Heh, WoW arena is the least time consuming blizzard games I have played. Que up for arena maybe 4-5 times a season and afk the rest. Notice how all the players at the top of the WoW ladder have 90%+ w/l ratios. It really takes no effort. SC2 you gotta grind them games, and play everyday to maintain top .5%~.

I fail to understand why a WoW player would come to a starcraft forum and then brag about their arena rating. Arena took literally no skill at all. I could go back to WoW today and play at an equal or greater level than I played months ago no problem, but in SC after just a week of not playing I feel sloppy as hell.

I don't think nadagast is playing much recently, not really attending events. I do remember last year when he played both sc2 and WoW at mlg he was placing top 12 top 10 in the sc2 event. Also while duel gaming he was playing like 1 game of sc2 a day, and like I said I don't think he is training hard to be super good at it right now.
Nadagast placed top 8 in a recent WCG USA Qualifier, falling to IdrA in the ro8. If he would have attended MLG Dallas 2011, Gretorp would not have been seeding in the top 16 because he took Nadagast's spot and would have been immediately placed in Pool Play. He also defeated Incontrol and Slush (and other pros) in MLG events, how does that not make him "good"?
Nadagast does not play games passionately to prove he's the best, that guy just has skills and badassness running in his veins. Every single game hes played from Natural Selection, WoW, and SC2 -- he's made a splash in the top scene without much effort. Check some of his games from SC2 Beta and tell me he wasn't ahead of the curve when no one knew how to play this game.

For perspective on how long ago this was: mvp, nada, boxer, nestea, july either hadn't transitioned or were irrelevant because they hadn't played long enough. Results today are far more meaningful as the game is far more competitive than it has ever been
Anybody who needs to cite results from beta/early retail to prove a point usually only proves how weak their argument is. The game was broken as fuck, the maps were trash, and terran was imbalanced back then. however, right now the game is quite balanced, the builds are refined and the competition is a lot stronger so if he wins anything noteworthy right now i'll give him 100% full credit

Does Zilea still have a sponsorship? I'm just curious who pays him to play SC2 and why. They gain nothing from paying him, no exposure at top tournaments since his skill level is so low and can't really bring over a following from WoW since nobody even liked him there. I find it hard to believe theres a team or sponsor that feels they can gain any advertising from him.
Also half of the people in this thread need to learn to post on TeamLiquid if you intend to stick around, I know the transition from WoW to the real world can be hard, but this can be your first step.

Exactly my point above, I don't believe that he is still getting paid, and if he is then someone needs to tell his sponsors to drop him since he isn't helping them at all.

1) When you scout close air ZvZ with your overlord, consider going hatch first. 2) When your opponent has overlords all along your attack route, don't attempt a queen/roach push on one base. Queens actually walk slowly off creep, and I promise your opponent will be prepared. 3) Don't exaggerate and brag to multiple people about an old event. It sounds sad. You won less than a third of $75k, and I can't imagine why anyone would pay some bm mid-master to play SC2. 4) When you accuse your random opponent of being a cheeser and then get convincingly out-macroed, offer a courtesy "gg" before making an excuse and leaving.

I think you have potential if you just keep practicing and stray away from the BM, you seem pretty dedicated if you take out the drunk plays and casts (idk were you drunk?). You don't suck that bad, and overall your STREAM is decent.
I hope Veex and Valrath start playing SC2 so you can play with them again and climb to the top of the 3v3 grandmasters league. Would bring new life to the bracket.

You're gonna have to attract viewers based on your SC2 skill, not a 3v3 tournament from 2 years ago in a different game.

i get annoyed or angry too, but starcraft, starcraft 2, or your streaming might help you with enjoying the game and the community more and more
i say that to talk about one of the basic ways to get more out of this game or more out of your time, but it's obvious you have your own reasons for what you've done/what you do . you could try just playing the game for example. it sounds dumb but in many cases where people (including myself) have a hard time keeping it in check, i can see it as a solution to try and try again to simply enjoy the game for what it is. starcraft is deep and it takes a long time, that's all i can really say. though it's just a random suggestion i'm throwing out there, no offense to you
when will you continue streaming? tbh there will always be cheese/stream sniping and you just have to learn how to deal with it if you wanna be the best, which is your goal!

Today i watched most epic fail of u. I mean the game which u play on Antiga Shipyard vs camp terran. U should easy won this game, but when u maxed u didnt attack him (when he dont have planetary in front of his natural yet), propably u would lost those army, but he was lack of minerals and u have more that enough to remax ur army. I don't think this guy should be allowed to stream or post on TL. After playing and watching his stream, he has nothing to bring to this community except some good laughs in the BM thread, which he has a couple of posts about him mostly talking about how shit you are and how amazing he is with the amount of money he got from gaming etc.. And he says that to everyone..

This guy complains to much about balance when he loses MAP, RACE, etc theres always an excuse and it not his play that was bad. Very BM as well when he is in the lead telling players they are done and should just leave. Also says PvZ is P favored or balanced which is really ridiculous to say considering the matchup percentage.

Zilea is pretty much the best representation of the WoW arena community, where oneself is never the problem it is always the game/your teammates/the opponents op race or class and you yourself is always right. If all else fail call your opponent/teammates bad and jump to a new team.

Kudos, this is a very hard barrier to overcome, tons of players still get deeply frustrated about things and want to find things to blame it on that isn't themself. You also say your BM is more trolling and more to just entertain your viewers, which is (to some extent) acceptable as well.
However, my question is this: If you have no intention of going pro, if you have no intention of making a living out of this game, and if everyone who knows your name knows these thigns about you, then WHY do you still, to this day, continue to brag about being paid to play this game? My friend vVvNgry (who at one point had one of the strongest macro/non cheezy ZvT's in NA) played zilea on a smurf. In a 30+ minute macro game, he beat him with only marines and macro, he maybe made a couple medivacs/tanks at the very end by the time zilea was on hive. Zilea would send his whole army to stop like 5 marines that were going around killing tumors, and then get his 3rd and nat attacked by marines cleaning up his drones (no dropping, straight up running marines around.) And zilea told him he's awful and a cheater and needs to be shot, it was hilarious. Zilea went ling/infestor/BL and lost to straight up marines. He couldn't even keep a 3rd base alive, by the time T was taking his 5th.
Anyway moral of the story: this guy has a big ego, is a bad player and very BM and should probably be banned from streaming on TL like combatex was.

Yeah this has been the case for the last 3 to 4 days, I've seen him multiple times on the stream page under sc2 and he's been streaming non-stop WoW arenas.
Now that he's made partner he constantly runs commercials IN games during "boring parts" and begs people to stay while he runs commercials for like 5 minutes straight; i don't get it, but it seems he really needs the money and isint even polite about it, he constantly jokes with people hes in skype with about making as much money as he can from it and he doesnt even post decent results.

Is there a way to report streams for doing the wrong tag and advertising? Since he advertises his wow stream on arenajunkies.com and gets a bunch of people from that site who don't know any better to watch his stream, which then inflates his viewers from about 0 to about 100-200 which sometimes puts him above more deserving streamers, who are streaming Sc2 and not wow.

Let me clarify for those that are confused: My stream tag has been left on "SC2" for the past couple weeks because I was temporarily banned for BMing a TL mod during one of my SC2 games (tbh I don't know who or when, but that's beside the point). And, because TL doesn't let you change your profile or anything when you are temporarily banned... I was unable to change the stream from "SC2" to "MISC".
just wanted to update that my stream should be much more entertaining than before. i've completely cut out the BM, however, there is always that chance that if i'm in an sc2 game and i'm not streaming, i may rage on you in game. Anyway, the stream has a lot more variety (WoW, SC2, Amnesia, etc) but hopefully it's still fun to watch!

Just a general question, is the level of play on the NA server so bad that people like him are in grandmaster ? I'm but a lowly gold, but I have never met a zerg on my level of play that is as bad as him...

No, he got into GM because of the bug, and blizzard never actually fixed it. They did not restart GM or boot out all the people that didn't deserve to be there, all they did was boot the people that got over 180 bonus pool, nothing more. GM is nowhere near legit this season.

Yea, I hate to make generalizations like this but it's the truth. WoW players in general are quite immature/bad mannered. Zelia was no different in WoW.
quick reminder, there are apparently other people using my name (as far as ive heard) using the same BM lines I used to use. For the most part I stopped doing that stuff like in january or something. I've changed my personality on the game so i wouldn't do that kind of trash talking.
Nice to see you streaming sc2 again, maybe I have been missing when you have, but it seems like you've been streaming WoW a lot more. I always found you to be a very entertaining streamer, regardless of the game that you were playing, though I definitely do prefer watching you play sc as I'm a zerg player myself.

Hey Zilea just curious why you have the little timer displayed on your WoW ui near your focus target, maybe I'm stupid but I don't think I've seen it do anything. Great stream btw.
it's a stopwatch, Penecks. I used to always use it cuz i never had a mod to manage counterspells, etc. I used Juked now which manages most of that but I still use the stopwatch as a habit, and to keep me alert, etc etc

He is not a pro and is not very popular. He has bad anger management problems and lies a lot, as you can see above in this thread. Most of the people that watch his stream do so because he was somewhat well known in WoW or because he rages a lot.

I'm sad I missed this thread when EMCL, Arterian, Trancey, and the like were in here. It's bittersweet that a reunion of such AJ folk should be centered around Zilea, but nice to see that others have moved over from arena to a real game. Was nice seeing you in person at MLG last year Trance, though it will be a while before I have the time and funds to make it out to another US event! You should bring one event to Toronto (or somewhere in Canada!)
lol before i took a 5~ month break from SC2 I stomped him so hard on KR ladder, then he went on about how im bad and zvz is imbalanced (???) and how he makes money from streaming etc..., then pretended like it wasn't him, then lost to me again raged some more and put me on ignore.
