Ukraine looked very nervous at the back for a number of chances. Sweden just failed to capitalise a lot of them.
The Swedish winger that came on (was it Svensson or Wilhelmsson?) looked so deadly. He's one to look at as this tourney progresses definitely.
England and France need to look out...this group is very open. Any team can go through Wait, what? "Taco" Svensson is terrible and way, way past his prime. Wilhelmsson is terrible too, the only thing I want to look at him do is get off the team. Wow, I thought English fans were unforgiving.... Fans (Swedish fans, British fans, any fans) know a lot less about football than the lead coaches do. That's kind of a "duh". Fans look at things such as "in what club does he play?" and "how many goals did he score?" when deciding the value of a player. Willhelmsson plays football in Qatar and Svensson is the only player from the Swedish domestic league who gets a lot of playtime. This is enough reason for fans to consider these two player bench material. Actually it's been the Swedish coaches who've been looking at what clubs the players belong to for a long time. And you're seriously arguing Svensson isn't way past his prime? Wilhelmsson used to be at least fast and have ok technique. Now he's not that fast and just ends up trying to make love to the ball or walk it all the way into the net.
They're both past their prime. They're not terrible. Svensson is a great passing player and he found his way through the center field with good passes today, something that the defenders, Källström and Elm didn't do well. Willhelmsson and Bajrami are the only players we have who can "göra sin kille" (dribble past the defender, one-on-one) and Bajrami, while promising, is more spectacular than he is effective.

I dont have to your doing it all by yourself. You cant give him credit for good strikes and then take it away by saying they are cheap. I dont think anyone has ever been swayed on this forum Im not about to start trying now lol. If I were being a fan Id just say "yea cheap goals didnt deserve them end of story" doesnt matter if I'm wrong im a fan. Not this middle of the road contradictory stuff I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Why can't a goal be cheap even though the strike is good? It's not contradictory at all. You mentioned Jelavic. It's a total gift of a goal, but his finish is all class. Let's say Voronin's shot in the first half goes in? It's a great strike, but it would have been a ridiculous gift from Isak if it went in.
Oh well, good night to you, sir. I will remain sad for the night and then regroup for the next two games. Congrats Ukraine. Lets go, Sweden!

can any ukrainian tell me why Rakytskyy didn't play? I have him on my Fantasy euro team and want to know if I have to sell him.

He's pushing 36 and this tournament will be the last thing he does in his career (he plans to retire after Euro).

Please everyone stop saying "the Ukraine". You dont say "the France" or "the Russia", dont you?

What a horrendous display, embarrasing first half from the entire team. Our chances to qualify are now abysmal, 15%. I waited 2 years for this bullshit.

Yarmalenko is a great talent, I think we will see this guy in a big club really soon.

I dont know where you live but here in America we preface everything with "the"
Get it together.

First half was some of the most terrible football I've seen from Sweden really. It took 21 (yes, 21, i checked) minutes until they passed the middle line offensively with the ball on the ground. And overall no offensive play whatsoever. Ironicly, when Sweden actually started to play properly, they went down 1-2 in 2nd half.
Lots of blaming going on though which I diagree with. The first goal could be called a defensive slipup, but thats debatable, it was a good attack. I dont really agree with the blame on Lustig though. Yes hes supposed to guard the post, but if the ball comes 20cm to more to the right he looks like a saving angel. And if he instead stands right next to the post then the ball will pass him on the other side in that case. The goalie wouldnt have stood a chance either way. Call it IRL-RNG if you like, but he just happened to be a few cm off where the ball came. To me, that goal was 90% schevchenko (spelling?) making an awesome header (yes it was really good, there was very little credit given on swedish TV, the header was very well placed next to the post and kept almost all speed from the corner kick, making it hard/impossible to react to) and 10% sweden possibly slipping up in that they let him get away to freely make that header.

Sjevtjenko: "Ukraine is game to you?!"

We might have lost the game in embarassing fashion... but I'm gonna celebrate anyway damn the results.

LOL! Shevchenko! Love him since Kiev! Forza!

Pretty nice game from Ukraine, they attacked the whole game, way more entertaining than other teams.

Man, I fall asleep at the half time break and miss the second half FUUUU(it was like 4AM for me) wake up at 8 this morning the first thing I do is checking Livescore, and mother of god SHEVA. Just watch the highlights, Sheva is the best, can't believe what I just see.

Agree with you completely. I commented on how poor Sweden looked initially in the game as well, it was really woeful. They did have their chances at the end however, and it could have ended in a draw if Elmander didn't sky that attempt.
Niether of the goals however can be particularly attributed to poor defense. The first one was a magnificent goal, created by two Ukrainian players (cant remember their names but maybe it was Yarmalenko and one other player) and beautifully finished by Sheva. Mellberg was the defending player but he was very close to Sheva, he was just beaten by a better player, no real shame in that. The second goal was some lackadaisical defense by Ibra, letting Sheva get open too easily but Lustig can't be blamed for that in any way. The header was simply to powerful and there was no way he could react to it. As Kreb pointed out, he could have been glued to the post and the header went 5 centimeteres to the right and you would still whine about it. Both goals were excellent.
As for Sweden's chances... I think they are similar to the Netherlands'. Both teams faced what was supposed to be the weakest opposition and both lost, now having to face the stronger teams and needing wins to progress. I think it will be tough, but if they can't get these wins, then they probably wouldnt get very far in the tournament anyways. The knockout stages have just come a little bit earlier then expected, thats all.
Good luck to both teams for the rest of the tournament.

I'll add one that might make it more clear to you: "This summer I'm going on vacation to the Canada." And "get it together"? Seriously? If you're gonna be snarky at least be correct.. like me!
Having said that, Cheerio you just have to accept that that's the way it's phrased in English. It doesn't make much sense but there it is.
