The last winner of a TSL4 EU/NA qualifier has just been crowned, and it is none other than MajOr. He took the time to discuss his play with us and reflect a bit about his previous TSL experience.
You previously came only one game away from the final 32, but lost to Welmu. Were you afraid you wouldn't qualify then?
A little bit, especially after the fact that I couldn’t play any Europe qualifiers except the last one where unfortunately I had to forfeit since my computer keep rebooting by itself.
Of course, you were previously playing from KR, but recently came back to Mexico for the WCS. Did that trip save you for TSL4?
The WCS in Mexico are in 1 month actually but the qualifiers are offline for 3 biggest cities in Mexico – Guadalajara, Mexico, Monterrey and the last one was Guadalajara that I won last weekend. It probably did, it's too hard I'm sure I woulda been able to win points but Korean qualifiers are really hard.
You've been practicing for a long time in Korea since we last saw you. How has it improved your play?
It improved it a lot I feel, even though not to the point I wanted, because I was stuck in GOM house, playing only ladder, and practicing with some TSL members and some from IM but that’s about it.
Compared to other foreigners, where would you place yourself? Not everyone can get GM on the Korea server...
Honestly I don’t know and neither care about knowing how good or bad I am I just like to practice.
Let’s talk about today's qualifier. You played some very good opponents, who was the toughest? Are there any games that fans should check out in the replays?
The finals were the hardest because I'm not very good in Terran vs Protoss and as for the games I guess anyone can watch, if you're a fan you should watch.
How about vs LucifroN?
He's good but he wasn’t that hard to beat. Game 1 I just played really bad build order wise and game 2 and 3 weren't very hard. Terran vs Terran is my best match up.
In the semi-finals you played ViBE, a former teammate of yours. Was it hard to play a friend and ex-teammate in that situation?
Yes especially because I was already qualified, and ViBE is a great friend. Him dde and skew, we were good friends in sixjax. Sadly I had to beat ViBE. T.T
The first time you really seemed pressured all day was in the finals. Were you familiar with fraer and his play style?
I heard he was good and did well in DreamHack? but I never saw him play so I was a little scared about his play style and after playing him I can tell he's really good.
Game three was the highlight of the series, with a proxy barracks from you, then a immortal warp-gate attack from fraer, and the game finally ending with you barely staving off DT tech. What were your thoughts on that game?
I thought I was gonna lose that game but I kept fighting trying to comeback somehow than I realized he only had a few templars and my only choice was to send all SCVs and I managed to pull it off.
In your previous finals appearance, you lost 2-3 to Welmu, and the pattern of the results was the exact same until the final game. Did you have a sense of deja vu?
Yes, and I was a little bit angry, I hate Protoss, I hate to have to play marine marauder, I know how to play TvP but I don’t like to play marine marauder. Hopefully in next expansion of the game Terran will be able to play mech. : D
When fraer typed gg and you took the final qualifier winner spot, how did you react/feel?
I just felt good for the fact that I was able to beat Protoss in a tournament. It’s my worse match up statistically in tournaments.
So now that you've qualified, this will be your second TSL4 appearance. What has the TSL meant for you in Starcraft?
TSL was my 2nd big tournament in SC1 right after WCG. I still remember losing to JF and feeling terrible about my play. Hopefully I can play better this time.
You know, during your hold on Ohana, I couldn't help thinking back to your epic hold vs JF's proxy two gate on Outsider. ^^
Haha xD lucky!
Skill!
Keke
Looking at the player pool for TSL4, we know all but seven of the qualifiers, and can make good guesses at a few of the others. Who would you like to face?
Thorzain. I like TvT.
Since you know the Korean scene fairly well, who would you like to see qualify from the Korean qualifier in about 12 hours?
Hmmmm, HyuN or SymboL are really good friends. HyuN is underrated, he probably the best Zerg in TSL.
Alright, before we wrap up; what's something about you that people might not know?
The fact that I love skew.
Huh???
Not much, I didn’t know him for that long but I met him in sixjax and i just love him. xD Not gay.
Well then. Uh... final words? Shoutouts?
Just want to say that I'm sorry that I had to beat ViBE in my way to the finals, and a shotout to skew, check his website hotkeyit.com.
That's all? No, like... "check my stream, here's my twitter, go Knicks, try the veal?"
Ok. Ya just shoutout to skew and ViBE, check my twitter even though I don't use it a lot: @majorsc2 and follow skews sc2 website, that is for coaching videos at hotkeyit.com.

Seems like he's maturing now, hoping for some good stuff from him. I've always found him fun to follow, whether it was his really good play at times, or just his weird drama/personality
Major really comes off as the type that everyone is claiming Naniwa to be, he only cares about winning/playing the best he can and practices shittons and does not really seem to care about the other aspects of the scene.
It is a shame that because of that he really is not that valuable to the stronger teams out there despite him being one of the strongest non-korean Terrans out there.
Edit: Sort of irrelevant but I wonder if he has slimmed down abit after his stay in Korea, Their cuisine is a lot healthier then Mexicos, and Naniwa sure seem to have lost weight since he started to live in Korea.

hmm
wasnt today the last one in Europe/USA?
how does that seeding thing work?
Fraer qualified w/ points. You can click the "who qualified" link on the article highlighted on the TL homepage (w/ spoilers on) to see who from EU made it in based on points.
Major showed some good games today, nice to see him play so well. Hopefully he can overcome any of the personal/behavioural issues I heard he was having in Korea, would be nice to see him really come into his own.
Ever since that bad press release regarding his poor sportsmanship I was afraid he was not going to be given another opportunity in the scene, hopefully he becomes a manner bear. Well deserved win by a well deserving player, Good luck MajOr!

state of tvp?
idk, what i got from it was he was just talking about his personal preferences. nothing about the state at all. edit: oh, probably referring to T's pretty much forced into bio/bio mech play. isee now.

agreed. i think he's a little more weary than naniwa but in they're pretty identical in those respects. it's so sad, they're very, very great players but teams may not want to pick them up/keep them around because the gain/detriment relationship may be out of balance.
Really cool and selfless that all Major did was plug his friends and korean acquaintances. I like the fact that many of his answers were about how he prefers to play, or that he doesn't like matching up against protoss, or that he just cares a lot about practicing in any way shape or form.
He sounds like a guy who legitimately loves the game and the connections he's made in it, more than the money or fame it can bring him. You can't say the same about some of the other big-name foreigners out there...

Reading MajOr's interview just reminded me how many strong players are currently teamless.
MajOr Elfi Violet Genius Supernova Inca
Obviously Elfi and Major aren't as good/haven't posted results as good as those Korean free agents, but those are 6 talented players who all need teams currently.

Elfi has a "team". He's officially with Asus.ROG
And from recent rumors, Genius is going with mouz. And wasn't there something about Supernova getting picked up? So it's not all that bad
Living with Major for 6months in Korea, I can confirm that he is not gay. I'd even go as far as say that he is the biggest creeper/stalker I've ever met. Close 2nd is SloG. GG ^^

The rumours sprang up due to a tweet from mousesports' twitter, but turned out to be for their League of Legends division, I believe.
This guy doesnt deserve an interview no matter what he accomplishes, he is a terrible representative of the community, skill doesnt justify everything.

You're an idiot. There are MANY gamers that are "terrible representatives of the community". Including: Idra, Naniwa, Stephano. Do you jump into threads about them and say the same thing? I bet not.

lmao, plz don't talk about who is a bad representative for the E-Sports community... the three ppl you 'named' there are for sure some of the most influent players and represent the community, they helped to create, as it is. Not as you want it... and now plz no shittalk that this is not true. Because that is exactly what they do best. They get viewers, fans, haters and so on... but in the end, they help to grow everything because some ppl like them, love them, hate them and maybe as you: try to ignore them.

I'm not the one that started this "bad for community" bullshit. I personally enjoy watching players that aren't afraid to be themselves, even if they get emotional and angry.
Major is damn good at this game and that's all that matters. Everything else is gossip girl drama bullshit.

lol I gained weight in Korea! I'd say about 30 lbs when I lived in Korea (little over 4 years) Maybe it's because of my wife *shrugs*
