Well thats partly the TSLs fault because they allow korean players to play in NA or EU qualifiers. If there is a NA qualifier it should be required that you are american, mexican, canadian or whatever else country is playing in this server region.

The only Koreans they allow are ones who live in EU/NA. Daisy lives in Germany, he has every right to participate in EU/NA qualifiers.

Calling it now: you're balance whining in the wrong thread.
But really, already 3 terrans in the tournament with only 9 spots decided. Oh, but I guess they've only won 1/6 qualifiers so that is obviously a trend that will continue.
Expecting the racial distribution to be pretty even. Calling it now?
One, it's EGThorzain, not mouz.Thorzain. Two, the most recent Korean qualifier's statistics are completely missing, as well as Sting's 1st place position.
On June 22 2012 17:51 Silvanel wrote: Theres something wrong with EU/NA statisc too, ie.Ret scored 100 points last qualifier didnt he? He has only 60 right now.
Ret would have had to get a second place for 100 points, are you sure that's right?
Also, Liquipedia seems to be much more updated than this post, check that out.

Yeah I guess you must have been sleep deprived because he made it to the final four not the finals Select beat Ret in the semis before losing to Mana in the finals. The good news is 60 points is a pretty good start for Ret, now he just needs some more good finishes.
Not sure if this is the place to make a suggestion, but I think it would be a good idea to give the qualified TSL4 players streams their own featured area. Right now there's Players and Others. Why not add a TSL4 qualified area there as well so people can get to know the players before the tournament begins? I think it would add to the hype!

PS: Lots of players I didn't heard that much about, looks very exciting!
Both, he qualified by winning a qualifier, and he got points in a qualifier before. He may not attend further qualifiers so he also won't be able to qualifiy himself twice

I agree; this would be a really neat feature, especially because the TSL seems to be a breakout tournament for many players who may be otherwise unknown.

In the liquipedia if you try to arrange ascending/descending by one qualifier points, EU/NA qualifiers 1,4,5 and 6 are arranged to alphabetical order making 100 look lower than 11.
My guess is that 112 points will be a cut off for qualifing in EU/NA qualifiers. So You will need at least 112 points to advance trough points and anyone below will have hard trouble advancing.BUt it of course depends highly on the performance of the players and whether or not some top scorers decide to play again in qualifiers.
Lalush and Darkforce have both like 90% chances they will advance in my opinion.
Wow so many zergs and protoss lol. Like look at that Korean ladder points! dang, let's get some terran in here for some more diversity. MMA, MKP, and MVP, etc come and win.
If we ended the qualifiers today it would be 13 Protoss - 11 Zerg - 5 Terran with two of the Terrans coming from TSL3 seeds, It's a bit concerning for the diversity of the tournament
First and Seed each need a good ro8 performance in the last 2 qualifiers to really secure their standings, I will be so sad if one or both don't make it through.

If we look what EU/NA points looked after 5 qualifiers, you got to top6 with 103 points. If you compare what top KR points look after 3 rounds to what top EU/NA looks its not that much different, mainly LaLuSh having huge lead, but with so few rounds it really cant look much different. However greatest difference is, that at that point 74 players from EU/NA had got points and only 64 on KR. This is not exactly true, if one of the winners had points, they are not counted on this, but it looks like KR points will get divided by lesser number of players (~15% less) meaning that after 5 you would need 122 point to qualify.
If you look how many points top6 had after 3 qualifiers, EU/NA had total of 618 and KR have 681. Thats 10% more points meaning you would need 114 points to qualify from KR

This is a fantastic idea, would definitely contribute to the TSL4 hype.
After 8 of 10 events, the race to qualify on points is still very open. Even #1 LaLuSh is not mathematically guaranteed, although it would take a perfect storm for that to happen. I think #5 Bischu is relatively safe, but #6 JonnyREcco is on the bubble. #7 and below almost certainly will need more points to make it.
First the perfect storm: 10 players can get 81 points or more over the next two events (see combinations below), and 12 players are within 77 points of #1 LaLuSh.
Looking at what is realistic, take #6 JonnyREcco. For him to get knocked to #9, 3 players below him must get 154 or more points. Just looking at players getting points for 1 of the 2 events left, players can overtake him:
100+54 - 2 spots, 27 players in range 60+94 - 4 spots, 11 players in range 41+113 - 8 spots, 7 players in range
I think odds are good one of the two 100 point placers to have 54 points already and instantly go over 153 points, and at least one more player to go over 153 by some other combination. That would still keep JonnyREcco safe, but add a second player going over 153 and he would need to get a few more points to stay in.
Oh yeah, points starting to matter with only 2 / 1 qualifiers left for NAEU/KR! Theorycrafting commences~
Generally think KillerDucky is at a good estimate at #6 being the cusp of the bubble. Save for some at the top, almost the entire rest of the Top 10 need points in the next two qualifiers to secure spots. The difference between 8 and 13 is particularly tiny.
On July 08 2012 00:08 Broodlings wrote: Who's JonnyREcco? It seems like he's doing really well but I've never heard of him before.
He's a UK zerg. He's pretty young (15 iirc) and hasn't had many other achievements outside of the UK, but recently got a 3rd place (including beating demuslim 2-0) at UK WCS, so will be at the Blizzard European WCS finals thing in september. edit: Also lost 4-3 to white-ra in a show match lately.

Yeah you can claim SeleCT hehe :p and holy Protoss batman!
A lot of up and coming names in that list; i am excited to see how Vortix performs after watching him in the IPL TAC, he is definitely capable of an upset or two.
We also have a very nice team distribution: 19 different teams for 25 players (with Major being teamless). Only Liquid, mouz, dignitas, Empire and Quantic have 2 players, no team has 3 or more. Startale got a chance to send 3 players.
Pretty happy with the qualifiers, only BabyKnight, Daisy, JohnnyRecco, First and Sting are players that are relatively unknown in my books, and that's not a bad thing at all, it's what TSL does best.
Perhaps not as many "standout" players as some tournaments, but I think the level of players here are all pretty close. I don't know if there's a definitive favourite. I mean I'd probably place a monetary bet on Taeja, but he doesn't stand clear cut above anyone in my books.
To everyone who disses the tournament beforehand because it lacks established korean powerhouses; these are the players who BEAT those players who you used to think were the best in these past few qualifiers. Obviously we will have great games and extremely top notch starcraft in the TSL4. : D
And to the americans who feel sad about the meek US representation; get by your computer and practice your own heart out so that you can qualify for the next tsl. If it's so important to have people from your particular nation playing in a tournament you can as well see it as your own responsibility to make that happen. Otherwise; pick a player whom you like, NOT because of his nationality but because of his personality and style and root for that person! Even though I'm Swedish, I would never restrict myself to cheering primarily for the Swedish players when there are so many other players who stylistically appeal to me much more.

Oh, well, excuse me for being patriotic. Should I also apologize for rooting for the Arkansas Razorbacks (my college football team), or the Americans in the Olympics? I mean, Canada might be better than us at Hockey, but fuck it, why wouldn't I cheer for the same people who came from where I came from?
Leave it to a Swede to be stuck up about SC2 skill/players. I'm so sorry you're spoiled for choice, but that doesn't mean that I can't be disappointed that Sheth just barely missed qualifying or that Idra/HuK/Nony/QxC didn't make it.
The race distribution isn't nearly as bad for terran and good for protoss as it seemed, pretty happy about the results (although I would've liked Stephano to qualify.)
I'm really sad that NonY didn't qualify (or even participate in the qualification process). I know he's still not playing at the highest level, and TL can't just invite him for the sake of tradition, but not having him in a TSL just seems completely wrong.
Shethhh Y_Y He was USA's best hope for a small but strong representation in this tournament. However, I have no doubt that TSL4 will meet and rise above the already substantial bar that previous TSLs have set. TSL3 gave us the epic finals between the two Swedish powerhouses who have not surprisingly risen to be arguably the two most accomplished foreigners of the present time. ThorZain, winning respect from the Korean scene for having unflinching macro and no fear to go toe to toe with the best, relying on his mechanics. And NaNiwa, a controversial man, but one thing is clear, he is the foreigner who has taken the Korean model and turned it into success. I'm sure TSL4 will produce an epic finals and great games overall.
why hasn't stephano played in any of the qualifiers? at least it's finally really nice to watch a tournament, which is almost solely based on qualifiers. Sad for NA and TL, though.

I didn't ask for an apology, lol... I just think patriotism is irrational since I don't know any of the swedish players in person or have anything in common with them for certain. They may be the biggest douches in the scene, and yet the logic of patriotism tells me to cheer for them either way. I don't feel like doing that so blindly. This is actually a pretty interesting point. Why were both the NA and EU qualifiers hosted at the same time of day? Doesn't really make any sense considering the vast time differences between the two zones. Wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to put the NA qualifier at a time more appropriate for the NA players?
Not one NA player making it into TSL4? I mean i know EU and KR are way better but still it seems like a EU/KR tourney with NA being excluded, obv not done with intention but its the result~ (just realized major is in but still somewhat a shame)

Nice line-up, glad to see so many familiar names, not that i expected any different. Should be a great time THANK YOU TL!!
Hmm i'm guessing the (north) american viewing numbers will be rather low..
Hmm im guessing you are wrong... I for one dont really care where the players come from as long as they show good games and im sure there will be plenty of viewers from all over NA.
I am not sure what is wrong with TSL4..but some well known pros who are invited to every tourney havent really tried hard to qualify for this (playing just one or two qualifiers).
Thats why tournaments with qualifiers are better than with invites. Players who care and deserve the spot are playing, not the ones with name and lack of skill.

Well, I'd rather not start that debate in this thread but EU players do have better results than NA players lately, ignoring any perceptions of the skill of the players themselves. I can see how someone can come to the conclusion that the top level EU players are better based on recent results alone.
But yes if you think someone is flame-baiting on purpose PM a moderator if you don't have a report button.
EUs best are better than NAs best at the moment. not just only based on result but based on skill and experience as well. Note that with best, i only mean the best, basically Stephano and Naniwa and maybe Thorzain.
