It's kind of like the Oracle tells Neo in the first Matrix. Noone can tell you you're the one. You either are or you aren't. You just know it, balls to bones. Or something like that. There's no pre-defined checklist or criteria. It just happens. And even then, there's kind of levels of it. | ||

However, I would think that people can assume who and aren't veterans pretty easily. Worst case scenario, they will 'respect' someone who isn't a true veteran. I think that is acceptable... lol | ||

That's the main thing. Veterans say stupid stuff and you kinda expect people to react to it. When it's unprovoked and you have a history of it... it gets tiresome. | ||

Knowing it and being able to define it in words are entirely different, especially when it's so... variable. I'm semi-vet-ish in Tech Support, although I'll probably never have full veteran status unless I get my smart ass in check. Put me in Strat, I can't expect shit. TLHF, same. It's vague because if you try to put a crystal clear definition on it, people will try to rules-lawyer the specific definition. It's based on several factors of merit, rather than arbitrary post counts or time stamps. It's good that way. It's a partial meritocracy with a dash of seniority and just a touch of notoriety. | ||
