See I might favor a WC3-style ladder, wherein you get XP points for each funny ban and level up. While unfunny bans cause you to lose XP and fall levels.

That makes more sense, given the nature of bans relative to, say, games played against each other. So would you lose xp for a ban with no comment or just something default? Since this ladder will be very important, we don't want to incentivize mods to stop banning if there are a lot of bans and they don't have time to be funny for every one.

I'm fairly certaing the WC3 ladder allowed for "Ties" for when players dropped within the first minute which didn't affect your ranking. Something similar I think would work.

I still think the "balance-whine" is unwarranted (again without considering any previous Mod action) considering that the post tried to suggest a way to deal with the composition (roach/hydra/infestor)-- he may have been totally wrong, but in this case I think his correctness is irrelevant. He was banned for "balance whine in the strat forum." With regards to the "balance whine," it comes off to me more as a fellow Zerg commiserating a bade MU with OP. For example, my worst MU is TvP-- as is my friends. So when I tell him I lost to 9001 Protoss in a row, he may say something like "yeah fuck Protoss!" -- I don't think he's whining about balance explictly, he's just connecting with me on a bad MU. -- Idk that's how it read to me.
With regards to number 4, the post from the link was "FT Island, Big Bang ftw." -- it was edited, was it the original post that was unacceptable, or do I just not get it?

These forums circa August 2010 were a mess with balance crap, theorycrafting, and general QQing. The mods took a tough stance because they had to, or every thread on TL would be filled with this crap right now. The rules are very expressly stated, and he clearly wasn't joking. He's not helping the OP nor contributing to the disscussion in any meaningful or funny way = wasting electrons.
I also think for simplicity the mods didn't list all the things wrong with this guy's post. First, he clearly didn't watch the replay. Second, the strat forum guidelines make it pretty clear that opinions like this have to be supported with some type of evidence. Third he's being an unhelpful idiot:

It's completely chill to balance whine with your friends. TL is not your friends; TL is TL, and there are posting guidelines in place to hold together what little order there is in the Sc2 strat forum.
This guy opens his post by saying "this is the epitome of easy protoss", makes some bad suggestions, then wraps his post up with "yeah protoss is pretty dumb". If you believe his post was fine, that's your opinion. However, I strongly disagree with you and am glad that he was banned, and if he makes more posts like that, he will be banned again, and rightfully so.
Take a moment to read both links i posted with regard to number 4. The guy was dropping ads. It's obvious he was not a contributing user. I'm not going to do more research for you regarding this; the guy has literally 2 posts, I posted links to both of them, and you only clicked one of the links. Cmon man, work with me here ;_;
