You were, no joke, who I thought of when I posted that. There was someone else legendary that I’m trying to remember. I think they had accounts like mca1 through mca1000. Regarding moderation, I think the slur moderation is pretty spot on these days. I think I have to bite my toungue more regarding political moderation because usually it’s 15 liberals against one conservative and that conservative poster can’t handle debating all 15 liberals at once and starts responding aggressively. I understand how that periodic aggressiveness can be tiresome to moderate, but I feel like some of the guys banned had moments where they did a really good job defending their position while being in the minority in the political thread. | ||

I’m not offended it just annoys me. I was always grumpy but I’m also older. There’s a million and one other places on the internet to be an idiot and spout whatever you want, I like the civility and earnest discussion one gets on TL. I mean Kwark doesn’t use lazy slurs and some of his putdowns have me laughing and wincing on the behalf of the recipient. You can still be biting and a prick (even if it’s called for) with a bit of wit. From my experiences running SC tournies and casting at a convention for nigh on a decade now (minus Covid), I’ve toned down certain things over the years. Our casts are approximately 40% SC analysis and 60% extremely off-colour humour, swapping co-casters and absolutely roasting and insulting all the members of the community. All good in the hood until a few people had issues and took me aside, had a good discussion with a few about maybe some lines being crossed to the degree they felt uncomfortable, so really had to shelve some particular topics. I suppose part of it is as a regular white straight dude, in a super white country it’s rare I’m in an environment where I’m any kind of outsider, or the butt of jokes. If I am the butt of jokes it’s among friends, based on stupid things I do (which is often). It’s tricky to put myself in the shoes of the singular woman who sat in our audience one day out of curiosity and took up playing the game because of it, but who ended up having a quiet word about being made uncomfortable because that just doesn’t really happen to me, so I guess I had to take it on board. On the flip-side, through my college years #1 through general life any feminist events or groups I’ve been to, while the issues have never been diluted to accommodate me as the minority dude in attendance, I’ve always been made feel very welcome in such environments. If I had felt uneasy and been told to just fuck off if I was offended I’d have been alienated from those issues and causes at a pretty young age, so I’d like to extend the same courtesy to others in areas I’m passionate about and like to share | ||

regarding Danglers the only real memory I have is him citing some study for voter fraud and me finding a quote of the person who conducted the study saying you can't use it that way and him responding that the person was misinterpreting their own study. At that point I kind of started ignoring him. I don't really have an opinion either way I think conservative posters are good but their still need to rules to be fired. also regarding language on the internet I always just see it as good buisness to try to moderate more. creates more diversity in users as well as avoiding some of the legal/moderation headaches and bad press. It's not about what's better as much as it is what is going to get the most people and create the most beneficial community in terms of ad revenue etc. so I just see that as companies trying to be aware of changing demands and expand their clientele. | ||
