I'm pretty sure a lot of people would still prefer to report instead of ignoring.

I'm pretty sure TL would still prefer that users report instead of ignoring.

Ignoring would make certain threads extremely confusing and borderline unreadable, which I imagine is why it’s not implemented.

its why its not even on the table let alone implemented.

then again its not like its not requested, some guy recently made a request that TL+ user gets to hide other people's posts and also prioritize people with low post counts over high.

That thread was beautiful.

So ignore won't be implemented under the pretense of moderation knowing better what kind of content I should read? Fair enough.

I don't know if ignore is a good feature, the problem is that it screws up the cohesion of the thread.

But if there were to be ignore in some form perhaps it could just be that those ignored posts are dimmed in some way, e.g. making the text color a light gray? That way the post is still there but it's easy to ignore for the reader.

Lmao not sure where you got that from but the reason that BR agreed to above is that it would make content unreadable in general.

Imo the problem with this ban is that there are a lot of rude and even malicious posters who argue in bad faith and bring in needless conflicts who get to post just fine, while fluidrone, albeit a very weird forum member but who didn't really go for fights with other people (as far as i remember) gets banned like this. I understand the mods but it feels very inconsistent. A lot of the news/LR threads are just flamewars more or less because of a couple of certain posters.

Couldn't agree more.

I have reported that stuff quite a few times but it is not acted upon.

Then they will eventually get warned/banned too. Why assume that there is nothing going on behind the scenes? Just because you don't have access to their mod logs?

Apparently nreadable for individuals who have decided to ignore certain users, willingfuly compromising their experience. So, there's an assumption here that an user ignoing someone would work against them. As in, the moderation assumes it knows better what I'm supposed to read than I do.

I always thought the purpose of moderation was keeping the forums in tact, by removing posters that unarguably cause more harm than good, working in the best interests of all users. Not telling the users who they have to talk to.

Numerous boards feature an ability to ignore picked users, I don't know why TL.net would figure this doesn't suit the website,.

I'm speaking for me, not on behalf of the mod team here: If you can't make yourself not read a post by someone you don't want to read a post from, then clearly there must be some merit to NOT outright ignoring everything they write. Also, discussion is stupid when people ignore others. We like to promote civil discussion, not dissuade it. If someone is breaking the rules then we deal with that. But we don't have a rule about people needing to agree with each other.

fldrn should not have been banned in my opinion even though I often did not understand his posts.

I do not think he meant any harm.

Well, sometimes I really don't want to scroll through 3 pages of certain people complaining about their Starcraft race being weak or talking about Serral in a GSL thread. Not much to do with self-restrain, it's just bothersome.

Ehm, no, unreadable for everyone. There would be repeat posts, people talking/posting past one another, probably passive-aggressive bullshit once a poster realizes they were ignored, and on top of all of that - if everyone simply ignores a shit user instead of reporting them, then that makes the job of moderators harder and the amount of shit posts that slip through the cracks greater.
