This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here. Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue. Keep it civil.NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/ |
Sorry guys for spamming the thread, but can not share this gem I found in the reddit thread on TB's TL ban:
"The worst part is that anyone who wants to follow up on the drama has to suffer that horrible design of the TL site, with those glaring bright backgrounds and 90's layout. "
So this guy's only reason for going to TL is following the "TB drama" and as a user of the least comprehensible high-traffic website in existence, he complains about the "horrible deisgn" of TL, which is one of the easiest pages to read on the whole internet (as it reduces bloat and puts post content first instead of a clusterfuck of icons and signatures as it is normal on forums today).

TL is pretty much the only place that I can find everything I have access to; I don't know why anyone would complain about its design. -.-

I think it's simply that people often decide they are going to make negative remarks about something, then figure out what negative remarks to make afterwards.

i have to say im glad he got banned and i believe a ban was due even if he hadn't requested it. Treating people like him in a forum different and not acting on rules that are for everyone would be wrong on so many levels: A community like ours relies heavily on a certain code of behavior to create a civil form of communication. Otherwise this place turns into reddit and we don't want that. Thus, that code is enforced by the TL staff. But, whatever your contributions to the community may be, people need to adhere to the very same basic ground rules. Because if they don't have to, why should we, the common users, respect those rules and reply in a constructive and civil fashion to people who are condescending and call us names?
If a "code of conduct" is softened up by special rules for special people, then it loses it's integrity and it's inherent ethical appeal. I'm aware big community contributors get a slight bonus on TL and as long as that slight bonus is restricted to certain areas and handled with care, that's okay, but TB definitely went over the top big time. Thus im happy TL staff did the right thing here. Imagine how you'd feel as a poster, if you have an opinion that doesn't fit into the scheme of a "scene celebrity". You're polite, you take your time to elaborate what you think, your constrcutive, you don't claim to know stuff better than business insiders in a obnoxious way etc etc. And then this guy comes in, calls you names, points out how toxic you are and rushes off w/o any consequences. For me, personally, that would be a breaking point in my "posting career" here, so i have sympathy for boxerfred. That TB doesn't like his opion does not entitle him to give him shit, nor should that ever be okay when known scene celebrities interact with ordinary users.
TL; DR Rules should be rules for everybody, or they become an empty phrase. Thus "happy" to see TB banned, though i have no personal opinion on the guy.

The ban was self-requested Otherwise we would not have banned him.

yeah i think that's a real poor policy choice then as i pointed out above. How do you justify, that we ordinary guys do have to adhere to a nettiqutte and the 10 commandments, when he can come in and throw shit at people?

with TB he provided a lot of content and was a team owner and it would look bad if TL banned another teams owner. I'm sure someone else can give you a better explanation though

Im not a mod so my opinion on this doesnt really matter but okay.
Of course the rules should apply to TB too, and any other user probably wouldve been warned/banned for how TB was acting in these last threads.
But we know how TB is. The guy is just TERRIBLE at letting things go, and ignoring the hateful comments. He gets into these endless shitfest arguments and he works himself up. He cares too much about what any random person thinks. Which I think is his greatest virtue and greatest flaw at the same time.
Anyways. TB is a great community figure, one of the few we did still have left posting on TL. And losing him like this is a sad thing. He's right that many important figures have stopped posting on TL because of some of the responses they get.
In the end, he did get some 'special treatment'. But why shouldn't he? He has done a lot for this community and is a major contributor. Yes the rules should apply to everyone, but some people get leeway than others.

Gonna just remind people of the mod note at the top of the thread:
If there is a need to discuss moderation policy it needs to go to website feedback, not here.

i see what you mean, but "getting leeway" is a a strong euphimism for what he did. He replied "go *f yourself" to people more than once who pointed out that they didn't like his tone more than once and did not show any kind of regret for that behavior later. How much shit does a regular user have to eat just because TB doesn't like their opinion?
€: i will drop it here, as requested by moderation. To me, that's a horrible moderation practice, as i pointed out above, but i guess there is no point talking about it here.
