The first thing I learned about debating is that you never aim to change the mind of the person you're debating to, it's more about convincing those listening that you're right. Has made it a lot easier to ignore personal attacks / trollish behavior in my limited experience with such matters anyways. I guess you said something similar when explaining why you bother responding to trolls too, but I guess there's a limit to everything lol.
