I don't understand it either, how anyone in their right mind could argue that it's ok to use the word in an insulting way. It's just baffling what people will excuse just to be 'right'.

Having studied in Asian schools whose primary mediums of education is English, I never encountered the word outside of anthropological discussions, and even then I was made aware that the term was already outdated and disputed.
According to wikipedia the reason the word was used to describe people with Down's syndrome is due to the presence of the epicanthic fold in the eyes. It's not even a very noticeable trait, and I'm certain that if you ask anyone who associates the term 'mongoloid' with Down's syndrome sufferers, none of them will be able to explain what it is. I guess it's just an unfortunate association based on a miniscule trait that somehow became popular. It has nothing to do with inbreeding, which I am certain was not isolated to that region. It's really stupid, and possibly even more insulting than other racial epithets because it insults two distinct and unrelated people.
You'll never hear the word used in Asia in any serious manner. (Same with the archaic term occidental).

True, but the story's kind of confusing. From the guy's posting, it sounds like Athena/the scammer/the made up person were all the same guy, but from the OP it sounds like the made up person was the scammer and Athena recommended him. I don't know, and based upon the shadiness of some of the team members emerging, I don't know what to believe.

Even if it was a scam it doesn't look like much of a scam. To be honest all the stories don't make sense when combined lol everyone is just mad at each other.
I think he goes over 1.5 days unless he says something crazy. Being an asshole irl not enough for a TL ban.

I think it's pretty obvious that it was a scam from the get go, everyone agrees to that. I actually deleted a post before I hit the button when they originally announced the team because it sounded shady as could be. I imagined what I would do if I was the donor looking to start my own team, and to be honest, I probably would personally sponsor a player first (much less hassle) and be super, super up front about it. When they said "anonymous personal sponsor" in their original announcement, I almost wrote "seriously?" in their thread but thought it would be excessively disrespectful. But I do agree, things don't add up.
