Then he came onto irc and started spamming too, was kicked and ip banned by motbob. motbob had to go sleep so he asked Falling on--however Falling is a self-described irc noob so motbob made BR op. BR then op'd Falling and after Kadaver_BB joined, he op'd Kadaver_BB. Except it wasn't Kadaver_BB, it was jd. So jd kicked all the ops and is now the op of TL-ABL Shock has set up TL-ABL2 for the time being. ...... BR = fail wow...

My schadenfreude at Defacer's ban is quite low ![]() Thanks for not taking too much joy in my ban, I appreciate it. ![]() I wrote to GMarshal about it afterwards, and he was quite a good guy about it. Here's what I wrote. Yeah, I deserve the ban. To be honest I was just getting frustrated with that one guy who kept missing the point of my argument entirely. And probably on purpose. Because he loves hellbats. Please humor me for a sec, and let me explain to somebody what I was trying to explain. Making a game more complicated by giving units or 'combatants' essentially invisible abilities or traits to fix a game that is imbalanced is not good design. It's patchwork. It's not crazy to think that the function and ability of things should be visually obvious and apparent. It's the basis of all good graphic, interface and game design. Sure, LoL is popular. But not as popular or profitable as basketball, football, soccer. It's not anywhere close to mainstream. It takes maybe 30 minutes of watching an NBA game for an average person to understand and respect professional basketball. It might take 30 hours of playing SC2 to actually understand how complex SC2 is, and how good its professional players actually are. It's a shame, because I always thought SC2 had potential as a great spectator sport -- at least as popular as Poker -- but the harder it becomes to explain, and the more seemingly random the design decisions become, the harder it is to convince people outside of the RTS or MoBA community to watch or even respect the beauty of the game. People would rather have hellbats take up four cargo spaces and call it a day, then step back and say -- "Wait a minute. A mech unit that transforms to a bio unit that can be healed in one mode and repaired in another? And is similar in concept to a viking, which also has an infantry mode but none of the benefits of a bio unit?" At that point, a game designer should seriously step back and ask themselves what they are trying to achieve by giving the same unit two very different sets of attributes. They should consider just coming up with a totally separate unit or starting from scratch. The more complicated and quirky the units get, the more insular and inaccessible the game becomes. And the whole point of HOTS was to expand the user and fan base, and not just cater to specific interests of hardcore players and purists. So it's not an issue of 'labeling'. Designing a game is more than just drawing robot cars, naming them and noodling with their stats. Consistency in how units look and operate matters. What gave SC2 the potential to become a spectator sport was that, unlike Dota or LoL or other RTS, the function and capabilities of the units -- for the most part -- where reflected in their appearance. You don't need to know anything about SC2 to assume that an Ultralisk is going to a lot more damage to a puny marine than an armored tank. Most of the units are straightforward, and intuitive. I don't often agree with the likes of Destiny, but he had a point about the importance of HOTS drawing more casual viewers and players for SC2 to have any real longevity. I don't think diehard SC2 fans realize that a lot of other hardcore gamers — say, a guy that has played 1000-plus hours of Counterstrike — look at an RTS like SC2 and are intimidated or turn-offed by it's inherent nerdiness. SC2 is a game so convoluted that not even gamers that already LOVE head-to-head competition will watch or play it. And what bothers me about some TL members is you get the sense they want it that way. They want HOTS only to be harder, and more exclusive, and more elitist. You get it from snarky guys on the forums, that cop attitudes that reek of entitlement and superiority because ... they know a lot about hellbats? So I hope I didn't insult too many people with my last post, but that's how I feel sometimes. That SC2 -- and Team Liquid -- is turning into an experience that primarily caters only to die-hard players. I became a TL member because I wanted to support SC2 and see it become the next big thing ... not to watch it become the videogame equivalent of Babylon 5 (or some other marginal subculture). + Show Spoiler + Sorry for the long-winded post. Also, I was not trolling that thread. I just thought Catz had an interesting take on Hellbats, and offered a perspective I hadn't heard before. I had no idea so many people in that thread had so little respect for Catz. Believe it or not, Catz is actually a very good player that has invested hundreds and hundreds of hours into studying HOTS. If anything, understanding and maximizing a units capabilities is one of his strengths. Sheesh.
