For anyone who didn't tune in, Cyber Sports Network just streamed a series of recorded interviews done by Rachel Quirico with various people involved in the PPSL, the star attraction being Gus Ledesma. After waiting on the CSN stream for a long time to hear what Gus had to say about the PPSL, I was incredibly disappointed in his interview(and I saw that many others on the chat were as well).
Rachel's questions were delivered calmly and designed not to vilify Gus in any way, but to still get at the issues that were on most of our minds: Did you have a financial plan worked out going into the PPSL? Where were you when the other tournament staff were frantically trying to make everything go right and you were nowhere to be found? What happened with YoonYJ? What are you doing to make everything right with Amanda and the others who were hurt financially by this event?
I was expecting Gus to own up to his mistakes and deliver an apology. After all, how could he possibly deny that he was in the wrong, especially after multiple sources told their stories of how his lies and negligence personally affected them? This was his chance to try to make things right with the TL community. Boy was I wrong. Myself and other stream viewers listened in disbelief as Gus proceeded to dodge EVERY SINGLE QUESTION and try to distribute the responsibility of HIS OWN MISTAKES on other parts of the crew. The chat was flooded with cries of outrage and strings of profanity as each obvious lie was delivered by Gus, and as he tried to maneuver his way out of each question without saying anything substantial.
This interview removed every piece of doubt in my mind that Gus is a lying and cheating POS. How can there be any doubt that this is all his fault, when he can't even bring himself to give a truthful answer to any single question, nevermind an apology?
Well he did say that he was in over his head with the scale of the tourney and that he overspend. "Technically" he said "we" but we haven't heard of anybody that he delegated these tasks to, so it's got to be him.
edit: but he didn't really apologize and he did dodge almost all the questions. Also his reasoning for the bad ping was "people stepping on the LAN cables". I mean, really?
edit2: also AZKZeik was very vocal in the chat protecting Gus and saying that Dox lied, also that he'd be willing to go on LO3 to tell the truth.
If I never hear the name Gus Ledesma again in my life I would be happy. How is this guy able to continue showing his face in the community anyway? (Assuming everything he did to Amanda and with the team is true)
PPL like this shouldn't be in ESPORTS and its SAD that this guy cant admit that he was wrong.. he didn't know what he was doing and he needs to admit it.. Its sad when EGO gets that much in the way of doing the honorable / right thing. Very sad ...

AZKZeik can speak all he likes, but every sea players knows for a fact that he's a rude, shady, racist juvenile. So whatever he has to say shouldn't be taken for much worth.
DOX has nothing to gain from giving his "truth". zeik does though, consider that.

Ziek is a lying racist smack talking piece of shit who completely pussied out when confronted IRL. Pretty much every single person in SEA will attest to this.
Dox is one of the most respected members of the SEA community, and for good reason.
from the small part of the interview i watched (i turned it off when i realised nothing was really being said) i was disapointed that rachel never pressed him for an answer. she was right to be calm, disarmingly nice to someone many people hate etc etc. but when he failed to really answer the questions i felt like she just let him off and moved on, rather than pressing for info

True, but you could tell by the look on her face that she was pretty disgusted by how much bullshit this guy was spewing. I don't think pressing him would have really done anything since it seems he is incapable of doing anything but supply more bullshit. If she really tried to press him for an answer, she would eventually have to call him a liar to his face.
If she pressed him for more information regarding the questions he would have just buckled and left the call... Good interview nonetheless, horrible answers from Gus though.
I really don't understand the logic of putting a tournament of this magnitude in Gus' hands in the first place. Someone please tell me how they found this bloke.

Just listening to the way he talks and stutters and talks about being able to "back up" what he says, he's either just a horrible liar or he's just a dumbass.
C'mon you guys, the important thing here is he learned something. One of them being you shouldn't leave cables lying around. It may affect that 10mbps he was gunning for.
I just don't know what to say. To be honest part of me just wants someone to pony up the amount owing and say good-bye to him and his team forever. The other part of me knows that he needs to be made an example of so future douche bags can't get away with this type of behaviour.
Even if he were telling the truth and the funds just weren't there, and he is doing everything possible to correct his mistakes I do not understand how this guy didn't know right from the start this was going to be a failure. It had disaster written all over it right from the initial thought.

i feel bad for saying 10mbps for 32 or w/e computers is too little. standards in the Philippines are lower, so maybe 10mbps is alot. but i read the tl thread about people posting their internet speeds and how much they pay for it, and there were 3rd world countries in europe with people running on insane internet speeds, so i onno.
People have stepped down from smaller things than this. He needs to pay back the debts or at least have the debts transferred into his name. He should step down as part of AZK and from any further event coordination in the sc2 gaming scene. This is what everyone wants. It's umm the recipe for the umm pots of issues to umm go away.

Lowest and most basic DSL speed here in Philippines is around 800kbps. Average residential speeds of the majority hit 1.2 - 1.5mbps. Lowest dedicated business line speed is 1mbps (no fluctuation).
Someone from another thread said that the PGF was streamed at the highest being 480p tops. I'm not sure how much bandwidth that needed but I'm guessing a dedicated 3-5 mbps line with only streaming connected.

I think they are pretty much covering both of their asses in the PPSL fiasco. This is first and foremost a Team AZK event with Gus at the helm as they claim. But seriously, if he was already fucking up before the event, Team AZK should have already stepped up.
One member claimed that if you tried to speak up you would be shut down or risk being removed from the group so they remained quiet. So.. I have something to say about that also but would rather not. Still waiting on AZK statement and not just a "gus" statement.

wow, i hate to say it but sometimes you really can judge a book by its cover i guess. I also love the shameless and terrible game hes spitting over twitter just before his nerd rage spills out towards Wolf. what a class act. i sincerely hope he and Gus dont represent all of team AZK
Unless it's news of him being punished either by the law or divine intervention, I really could care less if I never heard the names Gus or AZK again. Didn't know who they were before this whole fiasco and now the only thing I know about them is they aren't worth knowing... As someone else said before, it's amazing that he can even show his face...
This interview gave a lot of credence to the 'he's not evil he just really sucks at tournament organising and being a human being' argument. It could be something to do with how well he can speak English, I'm not sure if it's his first language but wow he just seemed downright stupid. It doesn't surprise me that someone of his capacity would majorly fuck up an international tournament that required a decent amount of competence to pull off.

Not likely for him to apologise, he's not earnest and also not manly enough to own up to his mistakes and fix what went wrong.
That said, his technical know-how is astounding. Those cables, man, cables.
A summary of the events was there was a flooded street and the guy just ran his car through it and his car floated. Instead of just accepting his mistake, he went out and passed the blame to everyone else saying "I was not informed!" He has since apologized and learned from his mistake of going off the handle from his own action. The "I was not informed" statement did stick for quite a few weeks after that aired in the news.

Well, on the bright side, now we have a replacement for the CombatEx "apology that doesn't actually apologize for anything" video.
Even after everything that happened, if he had owned up and admitted that he fucked up royally, that a lot of other people paid for his mistakes, and that he cowardly went into hiding post-tournament rather than face reality, then I'd say "time to let this go". He'd still obviously never be trusted to run a tournament again, but maybe he wouldn't forever be ostracized by the community.
This interview showed he shouldn't be put in charge of a lemonade stand, let alone a major tournament, ever again.

Superpower, if it possible, try to reach out to your former clanmates and persuade them to speak about this mess. It is a terrible PR move to maintain radio silence and hope that this will die down on its own.

Being formerly part of AZK, perhaps you could enlighten us with the organizational structure? I have the impression that Gus solely owns AZK, hence AZK equals Gus. I could be wrong tho, but I think that most likely is the reason why there are no statements from them.

I am a former AZK member(need to change I.D.) and will hopefully try to clear up somethings, first as of what I know Gus is the CEO/manager of the team and "owns" the team just because he made it but I dont think he has any form of of formal ownership of it. Next most of us werent even part of the PPSL, I for one wasnt even there and didnt even have the time to watch it. Guys pls stop flaming the whole team on forums and ladder, most of us were not involved in it. Lastly, I am sorry but I cant help address the questions about the debts because I wasnt part but if you have questions I will try my best to answer them as soon as i can. Thank you .

it's not that she didn't try. Did you see how that guy didn't try to answer anything? And to be honest, not everyone respect that type of "pressing for info" kind of interview.
Have to say through, he didn't really say anything that we didn't know at all (other than people walking over cables and affecting the internet lolol)
Softball questions and greasy dodgy answers. Nice to see a little e-sports video journalism but man.. Lets get some grilling next time, that was the most pussified expose i've ever seen.

From my understanding, it was either give him easy questions, or the interview wouldn't happen. And despite this, Gus couldn't even handle those.

Try placing your router in a high place if you're downloading, the steeper the cable gradient the better.

make sure your cable length is as short as possible. trimming a few feet off a hundred foot cable length will work wonders!
I know these issues need to be resolved but I don't think this guy even deserves the attention he is getting right now. I hope he is wiped off the e-sports earth because he certainly doesn't belong here.
I'm disappointed in Mr. Ledesma's answer esp on the internet speed...If you know you are going to host this BIG event then you have to talk to the current best ISP in PH which is PLDT.
As a fellow organizer, this is unacceptable...when I spearheaded PGF (Pinoy Games Festival 2011) it took me 2 months to secure a 5mbps upload/download internet line...just for 10 pcs (8 for WCG PC's + 2 for the stream) it sure was a hell long of a process to do, but it was worth it.
Still not satisfied with his answer, if support is all he needs...Mineski is always willing to help.

i dont see why he would step down as part of azk. i havent seen a good thing said by any of them so far, they all come across as douches.
And how many have you personally met? I was former AZK, i don't think i'm a douche and there are plenty PLENTY of awesome people i've met through AZK, some are douches, like AZKziek/ZanooKu, but there are alot more that are awesome.
like i made clear in my post, i havent seen anything, you dont have AZK infront of your name and you arent part of their group any more. i cant comment on the people who have kept silent / dont show they are part of azk.
Ok, sorry i took it the wrong way, just want to get out there that we aren't all douches

Thank you .
Quick question to you and Superpower. Why did you leave?
Not sure about Tezzeret, but i left (i sound like a dick, i know) because the clan was pretty much gone then, from what i heard Gus took it to far, and there are retards there like zanooku, who is banned from every SEA related forum/website because he trolls. i even spoke to him one time, he said "SEA will never evolve, i don't care about AZK's reputation in SEA, only NA and KR", now all you guys know and i even asked him what would happen if this spread to NA/KR and he thought he was smart to say it won't i'm laughing right now because he's so stupid.
But, guys if anything, please support SEA so it can evolve, people like Dox put so much effort into SEA tournaments, he hosted WCG brisbane if i recall, and has been hosting and helping SEA since 2000, around WC3 days i'm pretty sure of. We have a few bad eggs, but so do all the other servers, Deezer, etc.... so it would be great to see support to SEA's tournament's and what not :D
So why did he even bother to go on CSN? For all I know, he could just plain disappear. Does he think he can still make some kind of impact on esports or something? A good impact I mean. Pffft.

Not likely for him to apologise, he's not earnest and also not manly enough to own up to his mistakes and fix what went wrong.
That said, his technical know-how is astounding. Those cables, man, cables.
Cables are ruining ESPORTS.
Yup, he says it like stepping on the wires were causing a clog in the pipes/system. hehe! I was just dumbfounded when I heard that.
I guess we could imagine a slogan should be put in every event that needs internet "DO NOT STEP ON THE WIRES! WILL CAUSE SEVERE DROP IN BANDWIDTH! ANYONE FOUND STEPPING ON THEM WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY DISRUPTION IN THE STREAM!"
I always line my cables up in straight lines so that the signals doesn't have to make turns and slow down, did they take care of that? There may also be knots and that's just playing with fire.
Try placing your router in a high place if you're downloading, the steeper the cable gradient the better.
I only ever download things using my PC in my wine cellar.
