It's not very often we give out forum stars on Team Liquid, in fact I don't remember who was the last person to receive a star. A forum star represents the pinnacle of contribution to the community. Looking through the list of forums stars you'll see names like HonestTea who was one of the greatest community writers and translated more than his body weight of Korean interviews. There are people like Incontrol, who has consistently tried to bring something good to the community be it through uploading replays, hosting events or being on shows like SoTG. While the mouse-over on the star says "quality poster", it should more accurately say "outstanding contributor". You can see the full list of forum stars here.
There are a select few on the list who have fundamentally changed the way we have played, watched and enjoyed Starcraft. Dakota_Fanning has done just that. He joins the likes of MasterofChaos, Yakii, jca and ilovecats aka toptalent as someone who has contributed to the community in a way that has touched almost everyone and made our Starcraft experience significantly better.
We're no stranger to Dakota's work; back in Brood War he developed the BWHF project (Brood War Hack Finder) which would alert you to whether you were playing with a known hacker or not. It was a massive undertaking and some people tried to abuse it which made development difficult. Further, he contributed some plugins to the Chaos launcher as well as helped debug it on occasion.
But what has really set him apart is his tireless dedication to SC2gears. If you don't have this amazing application yet, then you're mad. What Dakota has accomplished with numerous patching and many man hours is a true successor to BWchart/WC3chart by jca. It has so many features, so many uses and keeps getting better every week (seriously, he PMs me around once a week request a thread title change alerting people to the new version!). The project started back in the beta and over a year later it is still being updated with awesome new features. Additionally, I think his OP is a contender for longest OP on TL 
So everyone, please give a round of applause for Dakota_Fanning!

Nonetheless amazing for Dakota_Fanning (can I say DF?).
At first I couldn't use sc2gears since there wasn't any for mac or it was so hard to use but later on you developed a mac version and then I fell in love with you :D
Now I have sc2gears on windows and mac

I used BWHF plenty of times, solving complaints on iCCup and boy oh boy, useful tool it was, also allowing you to compare hotkeys, having apm chart, all kinds of cool stuff. Well deserved star for this gentleman.

I'll admit I didn't know his name, but after reading he's the one that made one of the few apps that I have autostarting, I'll definitely support him. Big big gz to him, and thanks for making something so useful and awesome.

So great, such a great tool!
When somebody in Protoss Strategy 1 wants a replay of HT's vs. Terran, I can immediately search for just PvT replays where I use HTs, and upload with 2 clicks. When I want to see my PvZ winrate I can do multireplay analysis and immediately see. So useful, many thanks for development and upkeep.

Don't be discouraged by all the features Sc2gears has. Just start using it for basics, and maybe learn 1 new feature in every week (or day). You can benefit even from using just what you like from it.
One day you might catch up with all it has to offer to you.

thanks DF! I'm constantly impressed by the quality of sc2gears. As a developer myself I think you've done a great job with the project. I love that it updates itself so elegantly! Lots of other annoying programs could learn a thing or two from sc2gears (including Java itself)!

I remember your program from bw. I used it a lot it was great. Don't play sc2 anymore but as a big fan of the scene I of course love stuff like this
I like that you wrote it in java and it seems to be really well made. Very well deserved star

I think that in the ever growing SC TL community is really important to show some love to the ones that made SC the awesome way of living that it is today.
The star is a simple way to the newbies like me (and many many of TL users nowadays) to recognize those people so they can stand out in this huge crowd.

I can't play SC:BW and BGH anymore, my mind switched completely to SC2...
And if you miss the Players Network, switch to SC2 and Sc2gears has all the features of the Players Network and MUCH MUCH more...

Very well deserved. I love SC2 Gears.. every time I have a great game I check my APM to see if I set a new personal best. I also love keeping track of my matchup percentages since I usually play Random, so that is handy too.

But I should also warn you: the enormous amount of games I play (which in fact is way below average) consists of an extremely high ratio of 1v1 games (4% !!!), and I consider myself extremely skilled vs cheese games (I lost my last 1v1 to a cannon rush!).
