You guys should know the drill by now. Third installment of Cyberground will happen in early January. This LAN is happening a week after new years. TL DC LAN's have grown to average around 50 players, ~$500 in prizes with other gear/items sponsored in part by Cyberground LAN center and itsgosu.com. Players like Gretorp, Orb, Lastshadow, avilo, Ruff, SiN, and other top 200 in North America have attended past DC LAN's to help make them quite competitive and entertaining events.
What: SC2 1v1 tournament $20 entry fee ($10 for lan center $10 for prize pool) donations welcome! Email Cybergroundsc2@gmail.com with your Battle.net ID.Identifier to register.
Format: 2stage cup format. Round robin group stage into a single elimination bracket stage.

And Pokebunny, the prize pool is heavily determined by the amount of players like usual. We average around 45-50 players each lan and I would expect no different this time so ~500 to work with all together with around a 60:25:15 ratio payout so 300/150/70 give or take.
Bumping this up to the top, and a little bit of a status update.
We need people to sign up ASAP! I'm working my butt off on sponsorships and whatnot and if they come in here and see a crappy thread with no signups, we're likely not going to be picked. Let's get this thread pumped up and show these potential sponsors that these LAN parties are THE SC2 event of the East Side!
Also, if anyone has any companies in mind, send me a PM and I'll give a ring to their marketing dept. I've already called a few up and emailed others but branching out doesn't hurt! See you guys there!
Saturdays don't work for me anymore I have my work on that day. I can help organize the tourney, my sister she is a graphic designer she can make a poster for the event. We can then put the poster up around the George Mason and NOVA campuses I am sure we will get a lot of people to sign up. Maybe we need to create an official website where all the information would be posted. Most sc2 gamers around this region have not heard of TL.
We have over a month to go... I'm sure we'll get our 50 or so. Already have 14 in 2 days.
I like to stick to lan center + tl and not many more places to promote cuz I average 50 people or so and these events are quite competitive. any more areas of advertising and it gets too crazy. It's already borderline crazy the first two times.
in other news BOTH of our Cybergrounds #1 and #2 tournament winners will be in attendance for #3... avilo just signed up. Lucky for him the DC area is loaded with gosu terrans and not zergs amiright....
hello my dc/va/md friends how is tourney sign ups coming along, its saturday morning i figured a bump was in order, im sure that it will be no problem getting participants but what the hell its saturday im sure every one is browsing TL right now and needs a little reminder to come to the most aweasome lan in the world!! gogogo!
lol i think your right but yoohoo prices are steep so i think i gotta bring a cooler with a 12 pack of yoohoos and just go to town.(a can of yoohoo contains more fluid oz of yoohoo then a juice box) I have been training for both the sc 2 tourney and the 1 man yoohoo tourney (unless someone else wants to step up to challenge me). I have been pounding yoohoo and playing sc2 so i will be as prepared as i possibly can and i will weight an additional 20lbs from drinking lots of yoohoo. I don't want to frighten any one but i pounded a 16 oz bottled yoohoo in about 2-3 seconds on the way home from work so any who dare to challenge me in yoohoo drinking beware!!!!!!! JOOOOOOOOOOOEE!!
I'm too lazy to read how to sign up. Instead, I'll just be like gretorp. I WILL BE THEREEEEEEEEEEE AND TAKE #1 ALSO EXPECT MY BROTHER TO COME AND PLAY. NOT TOO SURE THOUGH.

do that or you don't get on the group stage sheet which means you count as a walk-in which means we dunno when you'll get to play.
not yet, Thats aweasome dude how is it? Im hoping i can get one before next lan but everytime i get close to having some money i have a new bill or some shit to pay for. It must be really sweet you must be so excited when it showed up!
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa80/Torenhire/IMG_20101214_171401.jpg Same old razer keyboard layout. Was just using a G15 for a while since my Lyacosa was falling apart and I'm so not used to the keys being so squared. Fancy font on the keys though :D
It's very bright. It's got three different levels of light behind the keys.
Barely noticable to UBER BRIGHT MODE. uber mode looks kickass.
Fits in with my set up perfectly. Hard to see but it fits nice and cozy on the keyboard tray that also serves as a mouse tray cause I'm weird like that.
My only complaint is that mechanical spacebar doesn't work as well as a non-mechanical one would. The space bar is angled just a little bit for easier thumb usage but I never use my thumbs on the space bar so it's off for me, and if you try and press it down at a slight angle opposing it, it won't go down at all and it will just lock up. Might just be a little unsettled cause it's brand new, but so far it's awesome.
And it's epic clicky clacky, I sound like I'm typing on a typewriter. :D
I hope all you Terran players are working on one of two things...
a) your off-race cause TvT for the whole LAN is lame b) your TvT
We're like the Russians of SC2 over here on the East side. ALL TERRAN ALL THE TIME. READY TO ROLL OUT. (cause it seems like all Russian BW players are Terran)
Its only for College Students because its part of the Collegiate level play. If anything changes I will be sure to repost. The Collegiate StarLeague is backing this effort as well.

Well La di da.
SORRY GUYS MY LAN IS FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ONLY YOURE ALL NOT INVITED.
Not to thrilled about the HCL lan yet. I think its to soon after CyberGround tournament #3 Really would like to see them spaced a little bit so there is down time between events.
I'm really looking forward to this, hopefully this time I won't be eliminated by Avilo and Cheesegrater for the third time >_>
I've been spamming games since the semester is over and am up to 2700 points (fapfapfapfapfapfap). I'm going to practice really hard for this, can't wait!

Too bad the ladder will be reset by the time of the lan ^^ Very nice getting to 2700. I need to force myself to ladder I keep smurfing on the PTR instead and not practicing against good players. I hope you guys are all signing up for the tourney the following saturday too.
BTW Lucky I love the map pool you have atm lol. Metalopolis, Xel naga, and "cross fingers for some other balanced maps to be released."
On December 22 2010 10:31 LuckyFool wrote: nono steppes and delta are way too terran imba, zerg/protoss users will cry super hardcore if we even tried to use maps like that.
I'm thinking something like Kulas, Desert Oasis and Incineration Zone. yeah? rofl
idk about delta, but steppes is just a terrible map being tiny as crap
There's nothing wrong with having "imba" maps in a tournament setting, brood war has had advantaged maps for years. what's important is that you have equal representation of them for bo3s/bo5s etc, and that you don't pick imba maps for bo1s.
We cried about steppes only because you left out scrap station last time, not because we wanted steppes removed per se. if you picked delta/steppes/scrap as the last 3 maps i think that would be acceptable- maybe that's just me. maybe jungle basin instead of steppes or shakuras instead of delta (but not both)

Do the Cyberground PC's have mouse accel on and if so, can you turn it off?
Some PCs have it on, others have it off. I believe we have the ability to turn it on and off, though. The owner should be able to confirm that.
If I'm in the "maybe" section would I still be able to play no matter what if I show up? I'm just worried if I can handle a 4 hour drive there in the morning, game from 11am-8pm then have enough to get home in one day.
Anyone from around the Pittsburgh area thinking about attending?
Rob so you said we would be looking at like 8 player divisions, round robins. Top few go into a bracket? Is the bracket like a bo3 or something for each match?
Jungle Basin is a terrible map, one of the most P favored ever.
Steppes is Z favored in ZvT ;o
tbh just go with iccup maps that are okish, it'll give people reason to practice them, and in all honesty, if none of us have practiced them up until 2-3 weeks before the LAN then every starts on the same level.

I c what u did there brah !
BTW, if we want iccup maps:
Moletrap, Python, Starchild (4,4,2p)
I glanced over the maps and these seem the least retarded.

thanks for the info dude.
If you need a place to crash there are 2-3 people in the dc area that typically have room to house nerds for a night.
Yeah bracket is bo3 till semifinals/finals it's bo5.
best format ever imo.
the group stage is usually just play everyone in your group once but if you have 7 or 8 man groups that means you will have 6 or 7 games at minimum and if 3/8 make it past the group that means even more games for more players. I try to stick to formats that are most fun and realistic to get through in the timeframe that we have.
edit: also on the iccup map suggestion. I really want to go with iccup maps but it's very difficult for two reasons, 1. you cant get regular practice on them on ladder, 2. they are almost all larger and play so much differently than the standard sc2 metagame, it's just so different, I dont really have a problem with iccup maps I love them but for the sake of competition and in tournament settings it can be quite difficult or annoying to play on maps/styles that you just dont have access to practice as often
for those who don't know I got a Razer Blackwidow ultimate mechanical keyboard i love it to death and i also got a new video card and power supply. my computer is more then good enough for sc2 but for some reason my video card is sub par and on top of that the new card says it requires a larger power supply so hopefully tom before the the ravens game i will get up early enough to sit down and install that. Its really aweasome cause for me that is a lot of stuff , i also got a cellphone cover and some socks and a couple pairs of 10$ sweatpants i wanted for work. I get to wear sweat pants to work
also suggestion for maps: xelnaga metalopolis shakuras plateau blistering ??
not sure about the 5th any other map i think of strongly infavor of certain races and very bad for the other races but xelnaga and metal are a given, i feel that shakuras and blistering may not be perfect but they are somewhat better then everything else that is out there.
I like ppl to email me so I can send out a massive reminder like a week before. I used to try to do it via TL PM's but it's retarded to send masses of PM's through TL theres no multiple sending options you can only send PM's one at a time. So I would open like 40 tabs and cut and paste like a boss but it still took like over 5 minutes to send out 40 pm's, was a real pain.
plus I had to change to email cuz these cyberground lans are advertised on a couple different sites so some people signing up might not even have TL accounts.
lol fail. I worked this week but it was so chill. like 80% of the office was literally gone. Both project managers gone, both my first and second level supervisors gone... it was like me and a few other guys just chilling talking about football and other shit all day. lol.
edit: Yes another signup today! lets get to 50 guys!
also please vote in the poll for the 5th map in the map pool spoiler.
Also please remember Groups A,B,C,D begin at 11am Groups E,F,G,H begin at 1pm. If you don't see your name in any of the groups make sure to email cybergroundsc2@gmail.com with your bnet name.id signups are still open.
Staffing updates:
CaucasianAsian will be doing interviews. Akasha will be assisting with groups
Unless Rob decides otherwise (he's the real boss, not me, I'm just a puppet) I would assume you can show up in the afternoon groups. I'm thinking group G.
Holy shit Firebathero is coming?! Almost as good as the time Jaedong came to play Race Wars with us!
omg please stream the semifinals onward? (btw what did I say about Bay Area people NEVER posting in the thread XD compare that to this thread hehehe ^^):D
If we have even a single 7 man group (looking more like it'll happen) we'll do 3 advance from each group (like last time, and have a preliminary bracket round) to keep it fair obviously. I'll be posting the google docs rulesheet tomorrow. looks like scrap station is gonna be our 5th and final map. group stage is going to be a veto style, both players vote down 2 maps and they play on the 5th one.
group stage is gonna be bo1 again like previous times mainly cuz of time. And if we get 6-7 man groups thats 5-6 games for everyone at a minimum not including if you move on in the bracket.

Hahaha. Man, this thread turns bad when the event is so close.
All your friends are now enemies! 'cept for me cause I'm the tourney admin, everyone wants to be my best friend in case we need to award free-wins and stuff.
Eh? eh? I could use a new mouse...maybe a new headset too...
I hope everyone has fun. I think I'm staying home, never arranged a ride and haven't really played much sc2 lately anyway. I dont really know 90% of the sign-ups, but looking at the names, I'll just say..
If you're on the alternate list show up at 11am to be guaranteed to get in, I usually save alternates to spread out on the day of the lan to keep group numbers even, say 4 guys from group A don't show, we put alternates in there.
if everyone shows (won't happen although we do average very solid attendance first two lans) we just add alternates to groups to make for bigger groups so either way everyone is guaranteed to play.
Last tourny I was bronze... since then I have made it to gold. I hope I can win at least one match this time... or at least put up a good fight! glhf everyone!

Hey guys I also realized I forgot to post the google docs rulesheet like past lans, I'm working on it now and will be posting it shortly. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
tomorrow there's supposed to be snow showers in fairfax. Shouldn't be enough to effect roadways much but it was a little scary checking the weather report and seeing a 90% chance of snow. Not nearly enough for me to give concern about having to cancel.
the weather statement issued for fairfax co. says expect a dusting on bridges and grassy surfaces, so looks pretty minor at least at the lan center. can't speak on behalf for folks in MD or elsewhere.
My current list has over 40 confirmed still. I really hope the snow impact is low tomorrow. especially in MD for ppl coming from there and stuff...
def not gonna risk planning anything in later jan or feb for snow risks that I dont want to deal with. Why does it always snow on Saturdays? Last year it snowed like every Saturday in Jan and Feb.
If anyone coming wants my cell number for tomorrow just fire me a PM here or send an email.
lol Rob, epic accident in front of your place today. Was like a super triple T-bone. Noobs running red lights.
People in the morning groups AND ALTERNATES
Please try and get to the LAN center around 10:45 or 11:00 so I can get you checked in and you have time for warmup. This is a problem we've had the last LANs and I'm going to be a bit more strict on our time this go-round. We need less people in the morning groups on PCs finishing up groups when the evening folk show up. The evening guys tend to never get a chance to warm up and get ready before I get their groups started and it's lame.
I will be starting morning groups no later than 11:30. If you aren't signed in and at a PC by that time, count on groups likely to be started and you'll have to play in the evening groups if there's room. No more late morning group starts! We didn't get it going till like, 12:15 last time cause of stragglers.
Alternates, late sign ups, I would recommend coming in for the morning groups. This way we can get you in the morning groups as they (at least at the last few LANs) tend to have no-shows. Bigger = better groups. More games to play and it's way less crowded.
Brackets tend to start around 3:00, so plan lunch and maybe even dinner accordingly if you're going to be in brackets. Again, earlier we get morning group started = earlier we get evening group started = time in between evening groups and brackets = time to get dinner and just chill for a bit until we get the bracket games playing.
We'll also likely be using the big ass TV in the back there for spectating bracket games. We had epic camera skills (courtesy of Ipp) last time and it was great to be able to comment and watch the games without crowding the players.
Any chance I can get swapped to one of the groups that will be starting at 11? I've got two friends who are both alts (one of whom is getting a ride with me).

Main roads should be clear. The snow didn't stick and there was only like a half inch of snow in the Fairfax area. They said the snow would only be heavy for only 30min and I think it's over so traveling shouldn't be too difficult.
Yeah there's like half an inch, mainly on grass in Fairfax, enough to slow down some backroads but once you get out to main stuff it shouldn't even be noticeable.

Nah, I was talking about how Chris had a showmatch against luckyfool and lost 4-1 even tho luckyfool hadn't played for like 4 months.
SiN went 2-2 in his group stage and got 3rd in his group so he's not advancing to the bracket. It was decided in the morning since we have only 5 man groups we would only take 2 from a group...T_T
Gretorp didn't show (so much sadness) nor did Theognis (no car)
Advancing so far into the ro16, REM, Mizore, Mankeyz, Cheesegrater, LuckyFool, Avilo, IXCMaestro, StorrZerg, REQHalation, Muffley, Bloodhawk, NyQManiac.
Still waiting on a few tiebreakers, bracket stage will be starting. As soon as the tiebreakers finish I'll be publishing and linking the bracket here.

As far as the event went it was great success, big thanks to Travis for everything as usual, Angela (Akasha on TL) for all the group stage help, CatsPajamas for casting everything. gj avilo for playing well and winning AGAIN. (especially in the game vs mankeyz on lost avilo temple, game of the tournament imo) gj mankeyz on second and rem on third.
everything ran smoothly from a logistics standpoint, some interesting not so smooth results but hey what can I say, StorrZerg and Halation are a couple really cheesy newbies amiright? (I kid I kid well played gentlemen) rofl...thanks to everyone who showed up today and played in the tournament and spectated. Hope to see you all again in the future if anyone has concerns, feedback or comments just fire an email or PM me on TL.
No Jake and Andre was very sadness, maybe next time!
oh and anyone free next weekend come to hypercrew lan, saturday the 15th! I should be able to go but I might have something come up work related, really wanna go though and will try my best to be there.
Hey everyone, just got home from this insanely fantastic event. If anyone wants to add me on B.net and play a few games, my ID is Sentient.682. See you all at the next one!
Thanks to all the organizers who helped make this event happen. I had a great time and really learned a lot. I definitely hope to join in on future tournaments, ideally not against LuckyFool ~ or at least I will choose not to wall in with a command center...
Yuka LOL! if you made a bunker I would have been so far behind in that game... Cyrain and Chodder both had me in the group stage but I lucked my way though all day till mankeyz just raped face.
I had a great time there, at my first LAN tournament ever, and finished way, WAY higher than I had expected (or probably should have? lol). Thanks to everyone that ran the event, and I'm looking forward to showing up to more events in the area!
I can't wait to see the videos i just hope im not in any of them i hate to watch my self in videos ^^

I had a great time helping people out with their groups! It was very tiring and after I got home I pretty much passed out. See everyone at the next LAN!
Hopefully I'll be there for the next one, I watched some matches online but there was a SSF4 tournament in Montreal, as well as some HoN casts and big SC2 invitationals going on at the same time
now all we're waiting for is peters video footage... chris took like no vids with my camera all day and got no interviews so he pretty much fails like usual.
homeboy9, own3d is screwing up my vod's royally. Thus, I only have what I have on my own3d page (soon to go on YouTube). However, I have just switched over to justin.tv (new stream at justin.tv/CatsPajamasSC2), and it auto records VOD's, so we should have no problem from here on out. Sorry again for the inconvenience.
And all VOD's I have saved are now uploaded to http://youtube.com/user/catspajamassc2. If you guys have any replays of the matches that aren't up (and they aren't up because stupid own3d didn't save them during my cast), send the replays to CatsPajamasSC2 [at] gmail [dot] com, and I'll try to fill in the gaps.
