This event will be held live at UMBC (The University of Maryland Baltimore County). There will be live casting and free food. However, attendees who are not students at UMBC will have to pay an entry fee (which has not yet been determined - aiming for less than $5). Games will also be live streamed on either ustream or livestream. (link to be posted later). Players who wish to play in this tournament must be present at UMBC on the day of the tournament. UPDATE TO INCLUDE FAQ 12.22.2010
FAQ:
Do you have to be a college student? Is a high school student eligible to play?
No, you do not have to be a college student, any student, high school included is eligible to play. If these conditions seem to exclude you but you feel like you should be able to play please contact us at CMStarLeague@gmail.com
What happens if we have too many registrations?
We will have a qualifying round the weekend before; this will be played as a best of three. These games will also eventually be cast and uploaded to youtube. Qualifying rounds will have the first map set as Metalopolis and the loser will pick map for the best of 3.
Do you have to come to the venue in order to play?
Yes, if this rule changes we will let you know.
Do I have to bring a laptop?
In general yes, but we have the ability to make two or three exceptions at max. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please email us at CMStarLeague@gmail.com if you would like for us to make an exception. (Once we have made our maximum number of exceptions we cannot make any more due to our limited space)
How do I pay?
We are working on opening a special bank account just for the tournament so that we can link it to paypal. Paypal is our expected method of payment.
Who is playing in the tournament?
To ensure fair play and equal readiness we will release the bracket on Jan 25th and annouce any qualifying rounds on the 25th.
Will you cast my game?
Games to be cast on game day are for sure the final match, the semifinals, and two of the quarter finals. We will try to cast as many of the other matches from the other rounds as time allows. However, after game day I will be working to cast all of the games that were played. A link will be available to the youtube account that I upload to.
Should I buy SC2 to play in this tournament?
HECK YEAH! I think StarCraft II is the best game ever!
What is the average player ranking so far?
We cannot say any more than that its diamond-platinum, based on fair play rules we cannot disclose more than this so that people have equal time to prepare for their matches when we release the full bracket.
Why is the prize pool so low for a 64 person tournament?
Because we are required by the University to hire security, and use their audio staff, as well as several other things that cost nearly $4000. Additional costs also force us to take part of the registration fee to cover these fees. We are still looking for sponsors, so if you know companies that might be interested, please let us know. The stream will have spaces for banners and stuff.
I graduated recently, can I still play?
If you graduated in May of 2010, we can probably make you an exception; no exception is needed if you are in grad school, ur still a student! If you feel like you should get an exception just contact us at cmstarleague@gmail.com and we will see what we can do.
