Really sorry to burst your bubble but this is a terrible time.

There is a lan ONE WEEK before this at the same lan center.

Why is it a terrible time? The more LANs the better. They could be weekly if there's enough willing participants.

because its directly after a lan. Spacing the lans out with more time (and this one has just under a month notice) should allow for bigger turn outs imo.

Also whats the deal with prepaying online for a tournament. Whats going to happen if i cancel, do I get my money back?

Also dc has a nice area of people willing to come. Why is the lan limited to 32 spots? I strongly suggest you find a better bracket system (group stages maybe) that would allow more than 32 spots. Just look at the previous dc lan events.

I don't really see a big problem with a venue having two lan events in a row. The owner of the facility told me the 15th would be just fine. As far as who hyper crew is, we've been doing weekly online tournaments for the last 3 months or so. You can go to our website for more info.

As far as pre paying, we just wanted to make that an option for any one that is sure they can come. If this event will be as popular as you say then players will be able to reserve spots ahead of time. Naturally if you pre register and then cancel you will get a full refund.

Don't mind Storr, I don't think he intended to come off quite as harsh as he did (or as I read it)

You should come to Luckyfool and our LAN. I dunno if you've run any in-person LANs or not but it'll give you a chance to see how we run things (pretty damn smooth, if I may compliment myself...Mmmmyeah) and more importantly, meet the local players.

The only downside I see is the fact that in our LAN, is that we have a decent combination of online signups and walk-ins, all at $20. Might be better to keep prices the same between LANs to eliminate any potential "qq this LAN is more expensive/cheap"

Just my 2c. Mr Kim at Cybergrounds is awesome and will get you hooked up NPNP.

Will see if I can make it to the LAN center that weekend.

2700 terran here. I'm going to sign up now, and my friend will as well when he gets home from work. I (and I'm sure many others feel the same) have no problem with this being a week after the cyberground tournament. Also as that tournament tends to have 50+ people you should have no problem filling this.

Keep the date imo

@torenhire -Thats an excellent idea!

I actually just sent a PM to Luckyfool asking for any kind of advice and stuff he could give us, but coming down that weekend to actually see how you guys run it seems like it would probably be the best way for us to make sure everything runs smoothly when we take a stab at it

Also, you bring up a good point about the pricing. Perhaps we can reconsider.

In regards to capping it at 32 people, this was only because we really had no idea how popular live tournies were in this particular area. If 50+ is actually a solid estimate for turnout, we will definitely consider changing our limit to accommodate everyone who wants to play.

agreed!

Also just having one single elimination bracket makes it kind of unappealing for some players, some players will have a 2 game tournament and be done, kinda rough format for a lan.

But I can def advertise for this lan via word of mouth since we'll have a big one in the exact same place one week before.

That would be much appreciated! We will consider all of the suggestions you guys have provided. We'll see about trying to come down for your lan the week prior; our team is based out of southern New Jersey, so its a bit of a drive.

We'll keep you guys updated through this thread and the forums on Hypercrew.com!

about 6 people signed up so far! We are still working on the bracketing system.. we will mostly likely change it the suggested round robin format into a single elim bracket

Just a warning to your tournament organizers/runners.

Prepare to be worn out by the end of the day.

Nerds keep you busy.

If you change the format of the tournament, you're gonna want to start way earlier than 1pm, I think. Really depends on how many people show up. We generally have 8 groups of 5-8 people and we have to start at 10:30/11:00 to make sure we're done by like 9pm. lol.

Our JanLAN is having a below-normal pre-sign up rate so we'll have to see what happens. I think we're only around 30 sign ups at the moment but like I said, we have a lot of people sign up like, the day before or walk in so who knows.

yeah, thats why we capped it at 32 initially to make sure we would have enough time.. still talking about it. Probably wouldn't hurt to keep our first event a little bit smaller for the sake of organization

you sure? rob said sign ups increase the most 1-2 weeks before the lan, we are just hitting that time table i think
we will be fine

Hey Rob. Pretty much what I was thinking.

I am very interesting in this event and the one the week before on the 8th. I live in Pittsburgh and it seems to be a solid 4 hour drive. I am hesitant to come as its only single elim and if I get matched in the first round against someone like LuckyFool :p, I'd be pretty pissed ahahah.

Is there anyway we can bump it to double elim? I know that might take all day but hmm, not sure.

Thanks for any information.

Anyone from the PGH area thinking of going?

EDIT: Wow are you guys considering a round robin? How would that work? 30 people all play each other once and the person with the best record wins? I would be down to come if I was guaranteed to play 30 games in person. That sounds like insane fun.

P.S. What up StorrZerg?

@Nizzy We are currently working on something other that single elim. The system we are currently looking at would sort all of the players randomly into 8 groups. Players would play everyone in their groups and then the top 2 from each group would move into a single elim bracket.

With this setup, less experienced players will at least have the opportunity to play several different opponents.
