I'm in Birmingham now. Grew up in Montgomery and went to college in Auburn. My gaming comp is currently out of commision but would be all for getting some kind of local tourney together in the future. Been playing Blizzard RTSs since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.
And you are certainly not the only gamer in Alabama playing SC2. I work with about 7 people who play it and my Uncle and cousins play too, and they're all in AL. Almost all of the aformentioned players, except for my cousin, suck balls though. Mid Diamond Terran here with only about 60 games played. Gotta order a new hard drive for my laptop and I'll be online again.

I know a few people from college that play, but they're pretty terrible. None of them interested in the progaming scene at all either. They tend to lean more toward the UMS or single player aspects of SC2.
I hope you're able to get your laptop up and running so we can play some time. I'm mid Diamond Terran as well with about 90 games played.

There's a lan center located in bham called Gamebox, they're actually hosting a tourney in December. I'm going to it, and yes I live in AL.

i used to work at a gamebox about 3 years ago that was off valleydale next to publix (lol). But last i heard it had shut down, i just ofund out about the Lee Branch one, its already OOB? when i worked there: it did almost no business and the majority of people there were wow or halo/mw2. Usually 10 - 12 year olds as well so i never considered actually going to one for an event. There are several esports events around town but everyone i've seen/been to is for some form of halo. I've been out of the local scene for quite a while though so i'm only speaking on limited knowledge.

Lee Branch one afaik opened right when XBox 360 came out, and lasted about a year. The guy that owned the store was going around the night of the release offering to buy XBox's from the people who were camping out to get them.

Hey, I'm from Mobile and goto the University of South Alabama. I try to play when I can but I've been just watching(MLG, GSL, ...) much more lately due to mid-terms and a paper. (Watching doesn't require much energy or thought really.)
I hope he doesn't mind me mentioning his username, but MrMotionPicture is another TL'er residing in Mobile, AL.
I've only really noticed Halo and SSB local tournaments around here. But the competitive/starcraft scene is growing, we may just need a little more organization. I'm considering starting a SC club at school.

Confirmed! Tournament at Vulcan Game Box(www.vulcangamebox.com) December 11th. It's in the Lee Branch shopping center. I just talked to one of the employees, who said they haven't hammered out all the details yet, but they are expecting a good crowd.
I will be swinging by there tomorrow night after work to check things out.

Wow, more Alabama TLers than I thought there would be. I am currently in Tuscaloosa for school but I am from Birmingham. I actually didn't know Gamebox moved from the Valleydale location. I may have to check out the SC2 tourney.

I'm not sure where the tournaments are going to be held at... this is the only one I've heard of so far and yes, it's in Birmingham. Auburn is not far though, I think 2 hours to Lee Branch? Just go straight up 280.

But seriously, it could be a really nice turnout. What's the setup like in that Gamebox, Moody? Did you ever check it out?

I have not checked out the new set up but as i said i worked at the valleydale location. We had about 10 pc's. When i was there they were perfectly sufficient to run sc2. Like i said i'm not sure at all what the turn out will be like. For our other tournaments there was usually a mixture of players who took the game seriously and were clearly more skilled. The other half of players were gamebox "regulars" that had played the game off and on with there friends. I would expect the same for sc2. I'll probably register and play. We should figure out a way to classify us as TL visitors.

GuYuTe- I haven't checked out the set up yet, I'm going by today after I get off work (5 CDT), I'll post tonight with whatever I find out. Also, what's your character code? I'll try to keep a comprehensive list on the front page of this thread so we'll be able to get in touch with each other on B.net.
I agree with ultramafia that we should identify ourselves as TLers somehow... shirts anyone? haha Maybe the light blue TL shirts with "Alabama Chapter" underneath. :-D We've got 1 month until the tournament, so there's time to line some things up.

I just moved to Birmingham, about 15 minutes away from the Gamebox center lol. I'll definitely be at the tournament; anyone interested in practicing? My ID is Regnen 871. I'd be interested in any other sc2 events as well.

I am debating heading over there. It will be at the end of my exam week so I will be crazy out of practice (though I am not that great in the first place.) I have played like 3 games in the last month and I wont get many more in before then lol.

It looks like there is going to be a $15 entry fee, but I'm not certain, they said they details aren't hammered out yet.
I played for 2 hours tonight... it was a blast. It's nice to be able to actually see the person you're playing with. Also, Good game vs UltraMafia... I got roflstomped haha. (stupid zerg)
I talked to the owner about having it set up to where we'd be able to bring our own peripherals and he said that they would for sure have it available by December 11th.

Me, Epyon, Ender, Shailk and Burburz did some 1v1s yesterday. All were pretty close.

so whats up with the tourney on the 11th at gamebox? i cant seem to find very information on hat website about everything in general. or am i just blind? that could be a possiblity...

your not blind darkbane... they are just slow. They usually plan tournaments before even "planning" tournaments. or atleast that was protocol when i worked there. They will probably have more details late november. If its like our old tournaments will be win % of entrance fees. But someone should suggest they use some sort of standardized single elim tourny bracket.
hopefully it will be ... bo3, bo5 semi, bo7 finals, starting map loser picks next map. So if anyone goes up there suggest that! i would expect anywhere from 25 - 30 people to show up max but who knows.

I would be down for organizing a weekly tournament... What day would be good for everyone? I imagine weekends are pretty "iffy," but being that we live in the same time zone, it shouldn't be too hard to knock out a 8-16 man tournament in 1 night...

Hahaha thanks for the bump, I've been scared to bump lately because of the ones I did before.
I talked with Regnen earlier tonight, and he wants to get an online tournament going pretty soon just for funzies. From the looks of the poll, Wednesday would probably be the best day for everyone, so I'll get details hammered out on that tomorrow.
Also, update on the tournament at GameBox: I was there earlier tonight and "Doogie" (the guy organizing the tournament) seems to be really on top of things. He was actively working how to set up brackets / pools so everyone will be able to not only have a good time, but also to be fair and competitive. He's got a preliminary rule set as well that seemed pretty solid to me. Another thing that I was pretty excited about is that the finals is going to be broad casted on their big screen where everyone can watch both players.

I've been really busy lately so I haven't gotten a chance to line up a tournament. I'd like to do it Wednesday the 8th at 7pm CDT. That's 3 days before the tournament at Gamebox.

I'm going by Gamebox tonight around 6-6:30 to play for a while if anyone wants to join me. Artanis told me they have installed the ports to allow us to bring our own peripherals and I want to check those out. Keyboard/ Mouse/ Headset are in the car right now ^.^ Super pumped.

The Georgia Gamers thread is interested in having a just for fun tournament of Alabama Gamers vs Georgia Gamers. We haven't worked out all of the details, but we're looking for around 10-12 players from each state to participate.
This will be open to people of all skill ranges, and keep in mind: It's for FUN!

tournament rules for saturday's tournament are posted at http://vulcangamebox.com/ still planning on playing but not positive. looks like they literally copied the rules from mlg (not a bad thing). except for maybe no shakuras or jungle. definitely would be cool to identify ourselves before going so we can merge the tournament with a little tl meet up.

Hey guys, I'm planning on playing in the tournament Saturday at Gamebox. I'm ridiculously out of practice due to college being a bitch this time of year but it should be fun regardless.

Tournament went AWESOME!!!
We had a really good turn out, most of the people there were high plat or diamond.
I plan on doing a full right up tomorrow... after some sleep.
Edit: I started doing the write up, spent about an hour on the first paragraph, and realized I suck at creative writing.

Hey guys, first ever post on TL. I live in the Birmingham area and I just got SC2 although I've been watching Husky/HD vids for months.
Last night I played my first ever game of SC2! I started off on the "intro" league and boy do I need it, I don't know how people do so many tasks at once (let me put it this way, my APM is probably around...20). At one point I had 5500+ minerals and 4000+ gas I was sitting on because I'm not able to focus on spending it.
TONS of fun though, I actually won but I have alot to learn!!!

Hi just saw this thread and decided to sign up for TL. I'm not really a regular TL forum goer at all, though I do visit on occasion and read what I can. This thread caught my eye since I'm always looking for people who share my interests that are in or around my geographic location. I actually live in Georgia, but am from Alabama and spend a lot of time in the Auburn area (Auburn grad, class of 2010 War Damn Eagle!) on the weekends, often playing Starcraft 2 with my buddies. Long story short, I'm in Alabama a lot and play SC2. If you want to hit me up for games, etc. I'm Monomate.918, platinum league zerg.

damn can't believe so many alabama sc2 players. What would be the interest in a friday or saturday night KOTH event. I really want to get to know more players in the area but just can't get to gamebox due to work and my personal feelings towards the employees there. I was thinking like 9 or 10 pm on friday and saturday. Just note below if you'd be interested and if we can get 5 - 10 people interested i'll organize it.

Tell all your AL friends about SC2 that you can. Send them here, and then tell them to tell their friends too . Pretty awesome that we already know about this many people that play in Alabama. I am sure there are countless others, but they either haven't found this thread or TL.
Like Moody said, we have a lot of guys that play with us at a pretty high level. All are from Alabama as well. I am willing to help anyone from AL that is wanting to improve their game, all I ask is that you play it semi-seriously at least.

There's several people in this thread from Auburn. Check the second post inside the spoiler, maybe you'll be able to organize a meet up or something.
Also, it's not a far drive up to Birmingham if you want to come up here and hang out during the tournament on the 14th. I know you said that you don't really have much time to play right now but it would still be fun to come and nerd out for a day.

Couple of things.
1. I've created a clan for Auburn students, alumni, and fans called On to Vic'try (oTv). It's a very casual (and small at the moment) group but thought it would be cool get people together and practice together, hang out in chat, maybe even participate in some clan wars, etc. If you are interested send me a PM. I also idle chat channels Team oTv and SC2Clans. I will be putting a website together when I get some free time, which brings me to my next thing.
2. I've created a website for starcraft 2 clans called SC2Clans.org. It's purpose is to promote clans and try to help a lot of the semi-pro teams move on to the next level. We are holding a team league this summer (SC2Clans Team League [STL]) and also have some other events coming up in the near future.
3. Is anyone interested in setting up a BarCraft in Birmingham?
