slight edit there was nothing ghetto about it, it's a mostly safe. is a lower-middle-class urban negbhorhood, it's just older. Which is awesome becuase it has a old old 1 theater not for profit indepentate theater that is willing to stay up all night to let us watch videogames from korea at a reasonable rate! (really you think a cinimax is going to do that?)
(I don't mean to jump on you at all -- it's just that for a lot of people outside of toronto ghetto will imply something different, like normal people just don't ever go there where as if you don't look f'n rich and alone you can walk though most every part of toronto at anytime and be cool)
Actually out of respect for 100% awesome the staff was (they even stocked up cereal and instant oatmeal and other breakfast stuff at reasonable prices!) let me throw up their web site...
honestly people check the place if you ever can. It's famous in the community for supporting things indepent events and arts and whatever.
It was fun. I even got to defend some crackhead (female) from getting beat up by a guy outside. Great night.
edit: She wasn't really a crackhead... just out of sorts on account of the fact she was being chased by a guy. Apparently she told him she was glad his mom died of cancer and that's why the whole thing started. AND BY THE WAY for those of you who scurried inside out of fear while a woman was being chased down by a man you really need to man up a bit. Just sayin.
great event... thanks for doing this. definetly coming back next season. btw SlaineD ur name is familiar, i think we've played couple of times on ladder
true true, tbh though, we shouldn't be scared for promoting esports since we weren't forced to pay a single cent. we are in fact doing blizzard and gomtv a favor by proving this business model can exist outside korea when the time is right. <3
Just warning you =P My law school senses are tingling and some opportunistic Gretech/Blizzard lawyer may not see it your way if you're showing the whole game through the video =P
Unless you didn't actually do that and just like clipped out like you did in the intro. In which case, you probably have way less to worry about.

I didn't mind the neighborhood - there is much worse and the area seemed fairly safe - and there is strength in numbers!
This might be partially b/c of the fog and terrible driving conditions that night, but I majorly scratched the underside of my front bumper on that sketchy street -.- (They tried to pylon off the undriveable part of the road but they put the pylon on the other side of the 1 foot hole that covered half the street and i sunk into it b/c there was very little lighting...)
very upset about that, but otherwise I was very happy with all the arrangements.
Glad to see this went well! I'm in Detroit and considered going but boy that's a drive! Maybe for GSL3 though. Hopefully someone starts something like this closer to me, otherwise I get the feeling that I'll have to do it :p
Btw, don't take my comments about showing GSL as hating at all.
Love that you took these videos! I was in part 1 twice after all =P Just warning you that a takedown "might" happen if Gretech alerts YouTube if you show too much games.
hah. i don't think i can bear showing a full game anyway because of the bad angles/videocaming by hand. most of the games are just clips and fan cheers
ok that's PART 1 it has most of the random esports on the streets of toronto stuff. enjoy
Wow. Sounds like the event was a success. It's cool to know that your friends came along to support you even though they don't know much about the game. Great friends you have :D
