EGMIn order to become affiliated with ARC, we must hold an Extraordinary General Meeting. The date I propose for our EGM is Thursday the 3rd of March, at 2-3pm - Location TBD. The agenda for the meeting will be as follows: - Welcome/Meet and Greet
Getting to Know Everyone
- Elections
There are currently 4 executive positions up for election. Additional positions may be created if there is general consensus on the day to do so. To be a candidate for election, you must email me with the position that you would be running for, and why you want it. A short paragraph will be sufficient. You may run for more than one position. In your email, please also give me your contact details, and specify if you are/are not an ARC member.
President Responsible primarily for the administration of the society, e.g. TeamLiquid thread, Facebook pages, overall organisation of tournaments Signatory to the society bank account
Treasurer/Vice President Responsible for the fiscal wellbeing of the society Also responsible for any administrative duties of the society
Secretary Must attend every meeting (to the best of his/her ability), and take meeting minutes Sending communications to the rest of the society - both through emails and social media networks
Arc Delegate Ensures that the society continues to be ARC affiliated, and completes the necessary reporting and activities to do so.
- Events
Currently we are holding Tuesday Night Fight Nights Discussion for future events, and any other ideas that others may have, such as: Renting auditorium for GSL finals/semi finals
- Constitution
Any discussion regarding the constitution, which will be sent out in a following email. Once I book a room, I'll send another email out with all the necessary details, and the agenda again if it has changed, or anything needs to be added.
Increasing Member Base and O week Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend much of O week, and hand out flyers like I originally intended. If anyone is able to do this, please get in contact with me ASAP. Otherwise, it is imperative that you tell friends about this society, and let as many people know about us as you can about this society, and attend the EGM.
Thanks again and see you at the EGM! 2. Minor updates + Show Spoiler +Just a small update guys: - ARC/UNSW still have not come back to me about room allocations. If they have not done so by COB tomorrow, I'll propose that we meet on the quad lawn, and try and find an empty classroom. It's not ideal, but given constraints...
- Please support the USYD 1v1 tournament by signing up here! More details are available in the thread that is linked. There will be live commentary, prizes and plenty of glory.

There is already a USYD chapter starting, you are welcome to start a UQ also, just get in touch with me via pm? we can have interstate comps
|
|
If only there existed a UQ StarSoc
|
By the way, you should try get in contact with some people from the Cybergamer society, there's bound to be a couple of them who'd want in.
|
deL - heh. thanks. My friend is creating a USYD 'chapter' of this society, make sure you get in touch with him!
c.ngeK - yup, will do that once this gets off the ground, I already have the required amount of arc members and such, just need to submit paperwork
|
is this for broodwar or SC2?
|
On September 14 2010 20:56 shublar wrote:There is already a USYD chapter starting, you are welcome to start a UQ also, just get in touch with me via pm? we can have interstate comps
Well i guess we have 3 so far, not sure the level of interest they'd be
|
also if this is for SC2 can everyone join or only the ones in diamond league?
|
reverselah - either, but primarily sc2, and everyone. This isn't a progaming training camp, it's a club for people who like starcraft, and enjoy playing it. events would probably be online lans, inter uni tournaments, and group meetups to watch osl/msl finals and such.
|
also I'm kinda curious who is the best player at unsw? as in the ones you guys know..

lol with so many people at UNSW, perhaps we can have an internal ladder =P
that way, you know you're not alone when it comes killing your WAM ahah

There'd be like total 3 BW players from UNSW and two would be Korean international students.
|
interesting...I wonder if there will be a bunch of Korean international students joining starsoc....
|
|
thanks everyone for registering, and becoming part of an awesome society. =]
What happens now: We hold an AGM, and you fill out an attendance form. I fill this out, and submit it to ARC, and they approve us!
Please keep telling your friends about this club, the more members we have, the better. Emails will be sent regarding AGM times and locations.
|
bump
can we get an update?
|
I would definitely join the usyd one when that gets going, but probably not this year, grr silly thesis...
|
Do it anyway!
We could use just another member in name
|
Hi all - sorry, updating everyone now:
For UNSW - the arc process will not make us an official club until next year, so until then we can not proceed further until the start of next semester. During the first week of semester, we will hold an AGM, and in the following week we should be an official arc club. However, this will not stop us for now, and we will still forge onwards, arc affiliation or not!
USYD - please check the other page, or:

It's not exclusively starcraft or anything, but we already have a gaming club down here at the University of Melbourne. I'm running a bunch of tournaments this year, including a SC2 one atm so we could probably field a team from this end

Nice! Is this going to be SEA or NA server focused?

Yeah, I'm at UTS.
I'm not sure if our gaming soc (EGG) has a large SC2 base, from what I've seen they're more into RPGs and junk.
But i'd be interested in a UTS team!
|
yeah, EGG is pretty much all consoles. If any inter-Uni comp starts up we'll have to get recruiting.
|
@youngminii - actually i'm overseas until about feb, but yes, starting oficially there.
Others - can we keep this unsw focused please
@phaded - most probably SEA, but since everyone has both accounts I don't see why we can't play on both. The USYD club is now in the final stages of verification (all forms submitted, IGM held, etc), and a more concice mission statement of what we hope to achieve can be seen in their thread, but we seek to make clear the distinction between the other various esports clubs within the uni.

anyone at unsw or in this StarSoc thing, add me(if your bored) BaeK 273

Scarecrow:
I'm at UTS as well...i was thinking of starting one too. EGG is too into fighting games etc so would be good to start a sc2 thing.
PM me if anyone at UTS is interested in starting.

Already filled your form. Internal ladder would be nice. And yes, my WAM has dove so far there is no point in even trying anymore. GG WAM

UTS here
I'm pretty sure some of the guys at EGG play SC2, I'm not sure who specifically but I've played some DOTA games with them before so they're not all consoles

Will either the UNSW or USyd societies take non-students? I'm from a small regional uni moving back to syd soon, would be interested in joining if possible :D

Everyone: Join our USYD Tuesday Fight Nights! Anyone is eligible to participate and it gets streamed and commentated live. Tonight's tournament has been delayed for a few days but we'll get it going soon and it's enough to keep you entertained at least until uni starts. Go to the USYD thread for details.

Schublar how much to join UNSW StarSoc?
|
Membership is Free, glory is eternal.
edit - at least this is my view, with a few more caveats on how we will pay for things to be explained in the EGM. A formal vote wil be taken on whether to charge membership fee. Just keep in mind that if no membership fee is charged, events and tournaments will probably have a cost associated with them, so we can afford to do awesome things like tshirts and larger prizes.
|
/wave Shublar.
I'll attend the EGM, perfectly timed after my OS tute hah, well in :D
|
excellent, I'll see you there.
To others that were asking, yes, you can still run for an exec position on the day, but since we're limited by time, you might not get a chance to present your views. People that submit something beforehand will be given priority.
|
Has anyone made a similar club for UQ? I saw a SC2 tourney being advertised at JCU in Townsville and it would be nice to have tournaments between the unis
|
Not that I know of, but PM me first if you decide to go ahead and start one!
Still no word on a room allocation from UNSW for the EGM, I will send out another invite as soon as I know, please keep checking your emails and this thread for more news.

can a UTS student run for president in the UNSW society?
actually can a non-unsw student have a place on the board? i would like to apply for treasurer/vp position.
also i'm currently hosting the City Hunter Fundraiser on the 13th of March event but after this event passes, I will be hosting a UniCraft Event: UTS vs. UNSW.
I have spoken to City Hunter about this and I have gotten the green light to go ahead. Just waiting for the upcoming fundraiser to go by first then i can get that rolling!

Send a PM to iGx, hes the one that seems to be organizing the UTS club. Someone should probably start a thread to see exactly who's interested and to co-ordinate, but I'm way too lazy.

I've arranged a meeting with Jennifer Greathead, Clubs Manager of UTS. If she gives us the green light, I will call a meeting of all UTS students. My only concern atm is that StarSoc might have some conflict of interest with EGG of UTS but other than that, I don't see anything stopping us. I will tell Jennifer that we have a strong demand (I'll show her this thread on TL if i have to) and i'm hoping we will link up with StarSoc of UNSW + USYD. To stay in sync with you guys and for simplicity sake, we will be called UTS StarSoc.

+1 for the UQ society, I havent enrolled yet but am planning on semester 2, and live near the uni so would probably just show up and pretend to be a student. Thongs, t shirt, slovenly demeanor and 3 days of stubble will easily suffice for credentials.

apologies for not being able to attend the EGM held today. I was actually in a lecture at the time (should've skipped cos i almost fell asleep).

Hey I created this thread today for the University of Queensland (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=198459). Anyone else in Queensland can comment it and try to create a society at their uni. Having a "State of Origin" against the NSW clubs would be pretty neat I think

Yeah can we get an update on this? I heard we were definitely gonna do it but no word on it so far. It would totally rock if this happens!
|
Hey guys, update on gsl finals, we're _still_ not ARC affiliated, which means we can't book a room (without paying some exorbitant amount of money).
We've tried also to get K17, but that's not possible either, as we're not a CSE club, so unfortunately we'll have to give this GSL finals a miss. The good news is that the next one will not be so far away - and with any luck, we'll be affiliated by then.
We're currently planning a one day tournament at cityhunter, and also a cityhunter lan for japan charity event, so stay tuned!
|
Thanks man. Sucks for this month but we'll rock it next month! Looking forward to the LANs too.

hope you guys get affiliated soon :D

ive registered via the link on the facebook page, but starsoc wont be able to meet up anytime soon right? =[

Random and probably a completely out-dated question considering the EGM was held ages ago...but still; have all the general "roles" been filled?

I think it'd be great for UTS/USyd/UNSW/Macquarie to exist as one bigger body. That'd be awesome I reckon (Macq student here)

Hi all,
Sorry for the long period of silence, there hasn't been much to update whilst we've been waiting for ARC to affiliate us so we can hold events.
The good news, however, is that we're finally affiliated!! This means that we'll have access to rooms at uni, and will be looking to host the GSL finals in Rex Vowels or CLB on May the 14th
What you can do now! Tell your friends. Tell everyone that we exist, and get them to join the mailing list group.
We'll be having marketing events and a stall near quad soon to raise awareness!
|
Do Rex Vowels for the love of god, CLB is shithouse.
|
Yeah, rex vowels is our preferred option, and CLB will be a back up
|
You should probably advertise the GSL final stuff as for all people in sydney considering that I haven't seen any other threads about GSL final screening in sydney.
|
GSL in UNSW you say? Hmmm

Amen to that. CLB makes me want to kill myself >>
|
Unfortunately we couldn't get Rex Vowels so we'll have to settle for CLB. The hate for CLB is weird though, what's wrong with it? Maybe it'll be better when there's a bunch of nerd ballers watching the GSL, you'll just have to trust us :>

|
Yay UNSW Starsoc! Didn't know you exist until I bumped into a fellow SC2 fan at UNSW xD
|
We're a new society, and are looking for more members and about to start a new marketing campaign soon
|
have any UNSW postgrads as members?
|
we have one or two I think

If you want the mailing list for all UNSW people who registered for the tournament, just let me know.
|
Thanks to everyone again who turned up to our GSL party! Photos are now up on facebook so please head over and check them out, and join our group
Stay tuned for the next event! <3<3<3 Shublar

Can't beleive I'm only discovering this now! Quick question to the OP. Is that membership process for UNSW socitey or USYD because the thread is titled "UNSW StarSoc" and the membership application process appears to be for USYD?
|
My friend saw your stall today and sent me a photo. I've joined every way possible. Looking forward to meeting some SC enthusiasts. Will wear my Terran tshirt around campus more often ^__^
|
The membership is for both USYD and UNSW, and I think UTS too? Most people in the combined fb group seem to be from UNSW though
Anyways we now have an IRC channel at #starsoc on quakenet, to join use your favourite irc client and point it to irc.quakenet.org/starsoc or plug it in on the IRC chat link on the left :D
|
YAY BW YAY!
That being said i'm kindof pissed at the late email notification, but that's probably my fault for not joining the facebook group, but then that's not really my fault because i don't really use facebook. /end rant
Anyways I hope to be there, gotta see if I can push stuff out of the way first. Just out of curiosity how are you planning on streaming?
|
Went last time, will go this time as well. Thanks guys for organising!
|
Huge bump. Is anything happening for the GSL finals? You guys held a screening before. Will you be doing it again?
|
Will be going to UNSW in feb next year! is the sc society still around?
|
|
hell yeah, come join us on ts3 and events
|
i wonder what leagues people in UNSW in, i'm only diamond
Also in some of the spoiler section (e.g. Joining) it has USYD instead of UNSW
|
