I play with a few other IRL friends from the UK, but I don't come across many in game.

There will be an SC2 tournament at insomnia and I have a plan to take it to another LAN in York too. Just be patient with the scene, it's there, you just have to wait so I can get things done. Besides, it seems you missed a LAN held just last weekend and the Nation War we had last Friday.

They're trying to move onto SC2 but the lack of chat channels and clan system is making it very difficult to build any sort of online community. In bnet1 people would just come to our channel, play some games, chat a bit and maybe stick around. They might be friends of friends, complete strangers or from other clans. Bnet2 just really sucks in its current form, and by the time Blizzard patch in the vital stuff, half the player base will probably have buggered off already. Unless you have a bunch of mates you can regularly play and chat with, bnet2 is a suffocating and desolate void.

Hell most UK people don't even consider themselves 'British people', but rather a member of their constituent country, English, Welsh or Scottish. Parts of Northern Ireland being the peculiar exception.

I gotta admit my commitment to SC2 is declining after all these months having not really found a group of people to have fun and be competitive with, all my real-life friends just play casually or 2v2/3v3s and I find that gets tiresome really quickly. It'd be great to have a ring of UK-based Starcraft 2 players of all skill-levels, get to know each other and improve.

Those that are already PC gamers mostly play FPS or games like HoN/DotA/LoL. It seems that's a bit of a common thing here, but just looking at some of the responses in this thread, it seems there's already quite a few of us here that at least care enough about it to discuss it here. I'll try to keep my eyes open for other UK players and add them so we can start to overcome the barriers created by BNet2.0 and get some sort of a community spirit going. ![]() For those that are interested in stomping all over a low Diamond Random player, you can add me. I never got into Halo multiplayer for some reason and WoW is such a drain on your life its not worth putting the effort in and CSS never evolved any further. If/when(fingers crossed) SC2 gets chat channels I think UK SC2 ppl would group more and the UK scene would develop from there. I'm sure there are tonnes of UK ppl playing SC2 that just don't know about TL.net but they would know about chat channels eventually. Once chat channels come around always ask where the opponent is from and if UK tell them a chat channel or something.

I'll let you figure out why. What the scene needs right now is a place where everyone, (players, fans and so on) can find out exactly what events are happening and when they happen. On top of that, a closer link to eachother would help a lot. I think this could arrive with the Chat Channels in SC2.

I have been in the uk "gaming scene" for over 10 years, mainly due to CS and SC, to a lesser extent SC:BW. I would love to get some sort of scene up an running focusing on SC2. I would say having 10 people all trying to work on thier own scene isn't really helping it. I would suggest people working on one site/forum/scene, just to try and establish a base of players/people. I will offer my services in anyway possible to help get things rolling. I have some exp in site building, and alot as moderator etc. Also willing to play games, help people or be a punch drone for people to beat up, try builds on etc. Just add me SFXStrobe.683. Only in bronze, as i only bought SC2 after leaving WOW after 7 years, and what with Uni work and that whole real life, having a GF thing taking time, i dont have as much time to play as i would like, but i should have the summer to play, and as soon as Uni is done, i will be laddering like mad to get up into Diamond asap.

Now it's run by europeans but that's an improvement because according to football foreigners simply run shit better (or at least we think they do). We've had a small meet up in the UK before but no LANs. Hate going off-topic here but do people in the UK really not think of themselves as Europeans? No not really because all of Europe seem to dislike us for some reason. :'(. Just Kidding, we dont really consider ourselves European because we arn't attached to mainland Europe and the fact that there is a language barrier between us and other Europeans. Most of us see more similarites in other English speaking countries such as US and Australia even though they are really far away. On topic: I would love there to be a UK SC2 scene but most Brits play shitty FIFA (God I hate that game). Its like starcraft apart from everyone uses the same build, has the same economy and the skill ceiling is really REALLY low. Whats annoying is that the online part of that game is very much like an RTS game, if we could make people realise that FIFA is just a watered down RTS, then more people may start playing our great game. But each for there own I suppose, ill just keep playing starcraft. If I wanted to play competitively (which I probably wont because im crap), I would just play in EU online tourneys and join an EU english speaking clan.

Oh and I'm bronze and currently playing pretty casually what with the workload at college, looking to get to Gold/Plat when the summer hols come around. I don't consider myself European because my country isn't ran remotely well. Oh and by the way I think there may be more like myself who just aren't aware of any LANs or tournaments going on in UK, I wouldn't know how to start searching for one as any previous attempts have been fruitless and all I hear about is unpaid prize-pools.

I think there are a lot more like you Tommylew. I'd love to meet more UK Starcraft players. I keep an eye on the UKStarcraft.net site and I'm planning on taking part in some of their lower level tournaments. I'm silver league. I also e-mailed in response to their article asking for more people to get involved with the site, but haven't heard back yet. I think that might be a good way to get more involved with the community. Has anyone been to the iSeries LANs? There's going to be a Starcraft tournament at the LAN in Newbury in April. I can't attend the whole LAN but was considering getting a spectator ticket for the finals of the SCII tournie. Does anyone know if it's a friendly kind of event? I don't think any of my gaming friends will be going so I'm wondering if it would be possible to just turn up on my own and meet some fellow Starcraft fans.

The iSeries LAN are generally pretty decent from a spectator PoV, I cant see any reason that you wouldn't be able to find some like minded SC2 fans to hang around and chat to if you were at the event yourself. Also I believe that the guys from ukstartcraft.net will be around at it as well, so might be a good chance to get your foot in the door as such, and see what you can offer each other. ![]()

As for (maybe it was called Red Cafe?) the other one, it was okay as well. Don't worry about it, i'm no awesome player, i haven't played enough games yet to get into masters, and because of the silly battle.net change i can no longer say that with proof, but as of last week i had like 60% win rate or so, i've played like 140 games in 1v1, because i only recently got back into it since the beta, and i don't play while i am at uni, but over easter i am planning to power hard and get into middle masters, i have played rts's for a long time and never really tried to be good, but i have decided to do that in SC2. The point i am getting in a very round about way is that i would love to help you practice, i have been helping my brother recently who managed to finally get out of silver so that was really cool, and just having a practice partner is helping me a lot because i can practice builds regardless of skill level of my opponents, and if you are practicing against pretty good build as opposed to the constant cheese that they have in the bronze league it will help you get out of it, and it would be really cool to help you do that. http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/880168/1/Surili/ This is a copy of my profile (Surili.603) add me there and i'll be online a lot throughout the entire month of april. Hope to see you online. Emmanuel (Surili) Sweet, cheers man. I'd really appreciate any help. I've been stuck up against the cheese for some time. I can never get enough time on the game to get good enough to counter the cheese. I think my micro skills have now managed to go beyond bronze league, but my macro lets me down. So are you living in Colchester while at/not at uni, or are you here all the time? In some ways I wish that SC2 had been out while I was at uni as I know exactly what I would have been doing with my holidays!!! Here's my bnet profile http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/515546/1/Wychwood/ if you want to have a look. As you can see, I've not really played that much. Sadly that's what having a full time job has done to my ability to game! It's something I pick up and put down a lot. Problem with gaming so inconsistently is, if I play 4 games in an evening, I'll win one. Possibly. Some play against non-cheese, non-complete noob opponents will hopefully be really useful, cheers. Will send you an add this evening with any luck. Hopefully see you online soon

Not even funny how little scene there is here - even in the major cities I have lived in Leeds, BRadford, now Sheffield) there are no gaming cafes, let alone proper net cafes. Back in the day they were everywhere, full with nerds playing 1942 and 1.6, over the last 10 years they've slowly closed down, now there's only a few left. It's all because of the consoles.... Most people transitioned when Xbox Live came out.

In the process of starting a UK based team with a couple of mates. All 3 of us are diamond league at the moment, myself being Zerg, plus another Zerg and a Terran. We have known each other for a number of years coming from the Counter-Strike: Source scene along with bakor, who some of you already know from UKstarcraft - http://www.ukstarcraft.net. We also have a few other mates that play less seriously ranging from diamond to silver league that I guess could be considered part of the team too. We are pretty chilled out guys, all in our 20's and not really interested in any drama queens, but we enjoy SC2 and would like to play the game reasonably seriously. We have a website set up at http://www.bbagaming.net. Would be cool to see some people on there, maybe expand the team and find some team leagues in the future.

There are few high calibre players, the only ones that are known around in the EU scene is Demuslim, possibly randy, pureball and Bling soon enough. The others, they're good, but not at the top EU level yet so compared to the likes of Germany, Finland, Sweden, all those other european countries we are pretty small.

I can host it at my house (like Last Year) which is in West Sussex and it will cost whatever travel costs then food I suppose. I can't really have that many people staying here, I think last year it was 8 people or something but we have some more free rooms this time around. I'll talk more about sleeping when I can confirm if this happening or not. We can have some laptops or PCs setup here and have some mini-LAN like last year. The other option is that we find some LAN centre and pay out the ass for that. That would probably be in London. So obviously I need an idea of numbers. I thought I'd throw this in this thread for now so if it doesn't happen it's less official. Check out the thread from last year to see more info on what it would be like: Clickity Only vote in the poll if you're certain on the date. If you unsure, you can post in the thread. Poll: Would you come to a TSL3 Finals Party in London or W.Sussex Yes - London LAN only (8) Yes - Regardless of place (2) Yes - At flicky's house only (0) 10 total votes Your vote: Would you come to a TSL3 Finals Party in London or W.Sussex (Vote): Yes - Regardless of place

Yeh it is a shame that there is a lack or no scene of Starcraft 2 or any PC game in England or atleast where i live. I used to play WoW (back in the day) and was shuned due to the fact that they wouldn't open their eyes to it yet they play Call of Duty all day. Hmm... Just guess we have to migrate haha xD

Yeah thats what every single person in England does every single day, not one of them does anything different, if you're having trouble finding friends that like Starcraft or gaming in general, I think you may be looking in the wrong places.

That's really strange because you come across as such a friendly non-judgemental person. Thanks for your valuable input into this thread.

I don't know how much more CORRECT you could be. I live in the UK and I get this feeling everyday and I hate it, I love playing SC2, but in the UK, there is no love for it, only Xbox FPS games sadly. I decided when im going to be looking at uni's im going to see about studying in Korea, I've already started learning the language and it's so much easier than it seems at first impressions XD

On the other hand, I respect your balls for even thinking about such a thing, would be an interesting life experience for sure. That said I do hate living in the UK sometimes too and do long for a different ambience, but is Korea a bit drastic? I personally have spent a lot of time up in Scandinavia, especially Finland and I love that area of the world, bit more relaxed atmosphere to things. Also reasonably priced if you want to study at university level there, always worth a look, especially as you can study quite a few topics in English. Not lecturing btw, good luck with whatever you want to do, but don't go jumping in is all I'm saying.

America's often insanely expensive unless you are an absolutely exceptional student and can get scholarships. There are opportunities that differ according to personal circumstance just that's what I found when I was briefly looking into it a few years ago.

If you want eSports to be bigger in the UK, then maybe you should try and make it bigger. The UK scene is not great at the moment, but we do have a CSL and then there's the UK county cup. Maybe you could participate in, or even try and help run events like these. Maybe you could try and start your own, I'm sure if you asked you would find a lot of support. My point is you don't need to necessarily move to find eSports, if you can create it yourself.

It's almost as though I've slowly cultivated a circle of like-minded friends over a lifetime of living in a country. ah, refreshing british humour :D I'm looking for a 2v2 partner, and I thought I'd try the UK thread first, seeing as...well I'm british. I love SC2 but have no love for 1v1s anymore, I got bored of laddering on my own and there is only so many times I can persuade my clan-mates to play team games. What I like from gaming is working as a team towards victory (no I'm not playing a moba). So I've decided to hit up 2v2 as soon as I can find a dedicated 2v2 partner. I play 1v1 around plat level but I don't care how good/bad you are. I'm an admin for a clan so we have free use of teamspeak etc. Add me in game (ETLSpectres.396, or skype - kase_86), I'd like to ladder at least 3 times a week for a decent number of games. Also, shameless plug, my clan is recruiting masters terrans and protoss players for our ESL squad - www.eternal-esports.org.
