There doesn't seem to be much of a scene in the UK. I was wondering if anyone knew of any teams/clans, lans or practise groups based in the UK.

I play with a few other IRL friends from the UK, but I don't come across many in game.

If any UK players are out there, looking for practise partner/community. Add me. Talos.822

i think this should be in community, but w/e.
I believe there are a lot of UK gamers but they lack what you would call a national scene?
I could get a more coherent article by gluing a Sharpie to a dog's cook and letting it hump the page.

The already small UK gaming scene is already dominated by FPS games, CS and CoD; there's not enough room for SC2 sadly

I didn't even think there was a gaming scene here.

I know CSS is played alot as they appeared at the last Expo I went to, but whatever.

You probably don't want this getting too similar to the Practice Partner thread, but I guess that is only separated into servers, not smaller regions like this. I, too, am not sure how many UK gamers I come across, I assume the ones who reply to "gl hf" with colloquialisms other than "u2" are the ones who have english as their first language etc.
I'm nibbles.747 if someone wants to add me.

There's quite a lot of UK players, but I don't think there's much of an organised community.

I know on overclockers.co.uk forums there's quite a few of us kicking about

Well SC2 is already in the Iseries lan which is one of the biggest lans in the UK, so just be patient it will slowly catch on to the other gaming communities.

There a lot of UK players out there and they're definitely good players. I am currently running Nation War events for UK/Irish players and arranging a second tournament for everyone but this one is going to be bigger so it takes time.

There will be an SC2 tournament at insomnia and I have a plan to take it to another LAN in York too. Just be patient with the scene, it's there, you just have to wait so I can get things done.

Besides, it seems you missed a LAN held just last weekend and the Nation War we had last Friday.

Well Maximus Brood is an old clan that was originally UK based and made in 2000. Now it's run by europeans but that's an improvement because according to football foreigners simply run shit better (or at least we think they do). We've had a small meet up in the UK before but no LANs.

They're trying to move onto SC2 but the lack of chat channels and clan system is making it very difficult to build any sort of online community. In bnet1 people would just come to our channel, play some games, chat a bit and maybe stick around. They might be friends of friends, complete strangers or from other clans.

Bnet2 just really sucks in its current form, and by the time Blizzard patch in the vital stuff, half the player base will probably have buggered off already. Unless you have a bunch of mates you can regularly play and chat with, bnet2 is a suffocating and desolate void.

Hate going off-topic here but do people in the UK really not think of themselves as Europeans?

Not really no. (I'm Australian and live in England).

Hell most UK people don't even consider themselves 'British people', but rather a member of their constituent country, English, Welsh or Scottish. Parts of Northern Ireland being the peculiar exception.

The same as other countries with the social stigma, but it seems really strong here. A lot of people won't play games at all for that reason. On top of that, people don't really take it seriously in general.

However for SC2, there are a lot of good UK players so far, so look out for them. We're more than just DeMuslim!

i'm from the UK :D looking at the same problem tbh, I have to compete on the same internet connection as 2 house mates constantly playing CoD on their xbox's. You thought SC2 was repetitive, try CoD for.. well, forever

Hopefully as the game picks up speed, more LAN's will start doing it, I can't think of another popular RTS, Company of Heroes and DoW are both getting on a bit now.

Probs to flicky for being a serious community organiser, I really want Esport in the UK to do well, but flicky is right, there is alot of stigma around PC games in particular.

Hopefully we can SC2 at WCGUK 2011 and have a merry old time.

You should link your topics man - you've got your pride and glory zerg taking on the mighty NTT tomorrow right? I can't believe the OP didn't run a proper search what with all the UK events going on. 4 B&I opens, a playoff, two nationwars, a Flicky Mini, 2 LAN events and a showmatch tomorrow. That's more than most countries.

Can't let the rest of europe get it into their little heads that they are better than us, also demuslim can't play in this so we need someone to do the country proud.

It'll never grow imo, internet too slow, computers too expensive, people brainwashed into cod/fifa too early, and other countries are already doing it better.

Scottish player here, used to be non LAN but competitive CSS player due to inability to travel.

I go to Glasgow Uni, started SC2 start of August. First proper RTS, just about into Diamond.

Definitely up for some inter uni games/lans.

I'm American, but I've lived in the UK for years. Yeah, I also have gotten the impression they don't love PC gaming. Don't get me wrong, I've been in many UK clans, but as a cultural thing in general the british just don't like PC gaming - there's a really massive social stimga attached to being a PC gamer in the UK.

They do love their console gaming though.

I live in London. There's a few players around but it's pretty disparate. Overclockers.co.uk has a fairly decent sized SC2 gathering on the forums there.

Adeeler didn't take a 30 minute train journey to the last LAN near him on account of it being "too far" so I'm not sure how much luck you'll have with Reading.

They do indeed have SC2 (with accounts you can play on). I'm pretty sure they have BW on the list too. I have not seen many SC2 players there though, everyone seems to just play DOTA or WoW.

Not that I know of . Gamerbase in HMV is the only proper LAN in London which is quite pathetic considering the population. I play there occasionally when I'm in the area.

My impression of the UK gaming scene is that Console FPS is the most popular genre with CSS and some CoD as the most popular PC titles. Bad tase if you ask me :p CoD4 for the PC is pretty good though.

I've always thought we had a decent community, you just need to be on the inside. If you're connected then you're in contact with a lot of active, decent players and quite a few community events. It's just we're not that loud so random UKs don't notice us. Although Flicky's activities on tl should change that in time.

chat channels ruined the UK community. Brood War GBR-1 used to be full a decent ammount of the time before you even started playing bw KwarK, there was even a full GBR-2 and a half full GBR-3 one time when I logged on. Those were good days.

would there be any merit in making a "who is who in ICCUP season x" thread for UK people?
I'd be willing to maintain it etc if people thought it was a good idea

Sounds great.

I gotta admit my commitment to SC2 is declining after all these months having not really found a group of people to have fun and be competitive with, all my real-life friends just play casually or 2v2/3v3s and I find that gets tiresome really quickly. It'd be great to have a ring of UK-based Starcraft 2 players of all skill-levels, get to know each other and improve.

Yeah its so true about the social stigma.

Add me if you want to: Gigabeef.244, I do play 1v1 mostly but loads of my friends have recently got into SC because of SC2 and my preaching, so I've been playing some more team and custom games too for fun :D

somalipirate, I'm west midlands in shropshire, thats close enough!

We could get a list of people in the 1st post with UK players + char codes maybe?

There were some good people at the i40 LAN but I didn't actually go and meet anyone unfortunately.

Yeah, I've got quite a few friends that are into gaming here in London, but most of them are reluctant to switch over to PC gaming. And then you've got the challenge of getting them interested in SC2 (or RTS as a genre), and then the challenge of getting them interested in playing a little bit more competitively.

Those that are already PC gamers mostly play FPS or games like HoN/DotA/LoL.

It seems that's a bit of a common thing here, but just looking at some of the responses in this thread, it seems there's already quite a few of us here that at least care enough about it to discuss it here. I'll try to keep my eyes open for other UK players and add them so we can start to overcome the barriers created by BNet2.0 and get some sort of a community spirit going.

For those that are interested in stomping all over a low Diamond Random player, you can add me.

Pretty much everyone I know here plays consoles or WoW. A friend of mine has a friend who plays StarCraft and another friend of mine has played some C&C, the others seem to have no idea what a RTS is.

Oh, and I saw a dude with a StarCraft 2 t-shirt and a girl several weeks ago but I wasn't in the mood for chatting up a complete stranger. I guess I was startled by the combination of a nerdy t-shirt and a girl as well.

Haven't read through the entire thread as i am way too tired right now, but has anyone discussed like a TS or Vent server for Uk users? good way to get people together for some games, friendly tournys and all that jazz.

Better than just simply laddering

Let me know what you think of that idea!

Hey. I host lan partys for the University of Portsmouth Gaming Society, I am thinking of starting up a regular LAN for SC/SC2 (UPGS lans also have SC2 gamers) but first want to see how our internet handles with it. We have a LAN this weekend (start of term) so will see how it goes. We will be doing LAN's (weekend long) in Portsmouth about once a month. Pm me for more info.

Ive been going to the i-series on and off since i10, ive staffed a few etc, Used to play a lot of Quake 3 mainly at i-series. I hope SC2 will become big at the i-series. I will prob be going to i41

Would love a USL (University Star League) to try to get some sort of a more established UK community. The Newcastle lan with Adrenal, Kovu, Houck and the rest was awesome, shame about the attendance figures.

Ya, the problem is the consoles, I think we are more casual gamers and play a lot of non competitive fifa -_-, however I play my friends often on sc2, unfortunately they suck balls, I would probably be very very good by now but I have done badly in my AS's and am preparing for my A2's, so i can only play in the weekend and even then I am often busy, is it just me or does it feel like other countries have more time on their hands, anyhoosel, I was gonna do a lan for reach, but i cant be bothered because the people i would invite are flakes, and it would mean me spending more money. I didnt think sc2 had lan so how would that work?

Had me if your in the uk btw: Vega 483

Been playng in UK for last 2 years due to studying, SC is probably dead in UK, seen some ppl in Battle.net, 80% of them are students from other country, some others do not state but they r not very good (Or as good as german or polish). Sc2 seem to be different, still all the time see germans but have some friends in UK to playwith now. BTW, if u look for a practice partner or just a friend add me double1185 :D, at platium rank atm and desperately try to be a diamon, still thing not work so well :D.

It's true. My uni friends are mainly geeky/nerdy people, but even they don't play many games. By far the game most played here is MW2 in my opinion. WOW, CSS and UT are also played a bit.

I'm so glad to see that there are some SC2 players here!

Mw2 is for the unsophisticated geek, who, when losing says loudly and slowly woooooooooooow, as if there is some all powerful being denying them the victory. SC2 Players have class when they lose they write a formal essay on why they were at a disadvantage and how all terran players have a huge advantage. Personally I am the latter.

Modern Warfare was really great multiplayer regardless of what anyone says. But after maxing out in level there is no point in going for the prestige levels so I didn't bother with MW2 multiplayer just the single player.

I never got into Halo multiplayer for some reason and WoW is such a drain on your life its not worth putting the effort in and CSS never evolved any further.

If/when(fingers crossed) SC2 gets chat channels I think UK SC2 ppl would group more and the UK scene would develop from there. I'm sure there are tonnes of UK ppl playing SC2 that just don't know about TL.net but they would know about chat channels eventually.

Once chat channels come around always ask where the opponent is from and if UK tell them a chat channel or something.

For the sake of history, I propose that be our channel. Irish are welcome too.

Just some recent congrats:

Meepy & Jdanzi qualified for the UK EPS in the first qualfiers, so congrats to them. There are still 5 more, so plenty of oppurtunities to get in!

Also, DeMu went through the German IEM Qualifier, so we have two UK players in the event.

Various Cup Results
Go4SC2 Cup #36 - Meepy last 32
Go4SC2 Cup #37 - PuReBall plays in the 3rd place game against BRAT_OK Tonight!
Go4SC2 Cup #38 - Ourk last 32
CraftCup LITE #1 - Ourk 3rd place.

Ourk also got picked up by 4 Kings this week, so congrats to him.

I agree 100% about the chatrooms. Hopefuly we will see a sharp increase in UK players once they are implemented. in the meantime we should all try our best to get the UK community going. I'm currently arranging friendly tournaments (for all levels), replay tutorial casting, advice tips for new players on my stream and such, if anyone has anysuggestions let me know.

Also if anyone else is arranging things for the Uk scene i will be 100% behind it to try and get it moving :D

EPS UK has started! Check out the link for lots of juicy info and tune-in at 8pm on Monday's for our Live Show!

Gamerbase LAN in London is having a £2000 tournament so check that out! With 128 played online followed by a 32 player LAN final, this will be the bigget prize tournament in the UK so far. I would love to go spectate the finals, but afaik, I can't go due to work. I would love to arrange a nice meet-up if not. Maybe someone else can sort that out?

Hey all, I'm UK Diamond player. I do streaming of my SC2 gaming sessions after work, 7pm - 11pm weeksday

I've been doing it for a couple of weeks now and its been really good for bringing people together in a community based way as a central hub. Hit 600 viewers at once Last week, Lots of other UK players hanging out with some Swedish guys too in the IRC chat channel. We let anyone obs, so come check it out if you wanna find some other UK players to hang out with and tune in to the stream to hear us rage at each other.

We do sometimes let the lower ranks play each other and commonly do King of the hill so message me on the night if you want to sign up for that.

Tyles.772

Reporting in for the love of starcraft 2!

Herfordshire / North London here!
Tyles.772 Bobstar.223 I'm just disappointed they overhyped an announcement which would obviously cause a lot of backlash in the TL community. Sure they acquired huk, but they didn't have to rub it in our faces.

Was it held around June/July? Cause remember Kit the owner of CGZ saying there was a SC2 thing on, was wondering what it was.

I'm considering trying to get a tournament set up for this when I get back from Korea, not sure how much interest there would be in one though.

Afaik, CadenZa is the best Scottish player. At least, I don't know of anyone better than her.

there needs to be a team with a sponsor.. thats what will start the scene imo

but for a sponsor to support a team they gotta see that theres a large enough fanbase

Ok well, just to point out, this is wrong in so many ways. I'll let you figure out why.

What the scene needs right now is a place where everyone, (players, fans and so on) can find out exactly what events are happening and when they happen. On top of that, a closer link to eachother would help a lot. I think this could arrive with the Chat Channels in SC2.

there is a UK ventrilo for SC2, lots of UK/EU players like to chill there, you guys should hop on sometime.

You'll have to get a admin to make an account for you though, which doesnt take to long just tell them your race etc etc...

We are all casual gamers mostly, our hardcore scene is very very weak. Not that thats a bad thing just dont expect us to do as well in sc as we do in other aspects of life, apart from a few individuals we lack the players interested in rts and the scene here is about as dead as the cat i just sat on. Besides in our country being a pc gamer has a stigma of lameness, so I see little incentive for players to pick this game up properly.

As far as I know the only big hardcore scene is Halo, and to a lesser extent COD. Not sure about CS.

I know 3 ex-halo players who attend SC tournaments but they aren't anywhere near demuslims level.

How many of the EU top200 players are from UK?

I don't think our channel will go over the 100 person limit for the moment. Seems 'UK' is fine for the time being. I fully expect/hope rage against the channel limit sooner or later so in 6 months we might get it increase along with some random nerf.

Hi all,

Great news!

Our new website is up and running and the official release date is the 1st of Feb. To celibate its release ill be putting some prizes up for grabs so make sure you take a look before then.

Remember the site is very new and I would love to hear your thoughts on how I can improve it, im working very hard to get a good site for all you UK SC2 fans!

I have contacted TB a few times but will really grab him by the balls and wave cash in his face to help us out , but this is a little further down the road.

There are loads of opportunities for folks to get their creative teeth stuck into, art, videos, stories, casts, live streams etc etc etc, we are new after all So please come along to TeamStarz.net, your more than welcome and lets make our SC2 players and new site a force to be reckoned with

I know a few people that play, we all kinda came over from one of the Halo sites in the UK seeing as the console shooter scene is a lot bigger then that of RTS' and none of us really liked Reach
Paradox.685 if anyone is up for some games, only in silver league though :/

There aren't many UK gamers becasue Enlgish culture is completely and utterly shit, the majority of English people just want to drink, sing blind allegance to the royal family and kill people in other countries to "help" them (I guess the USA does that last one too though). Oh and with all that I mean there is no space left for gaming

Hey. Yea i have to agree with Ziktomini 100%, the culutre in the UK is completly shit. The whole "omg ur a gamer, zomg your so lame lolololololo" thing is still around, unless you play C.o.D, then by definition you must be cool.......

I have been in the uk "gaming scene" for over 10 years, mainly due to CS and SC, to a lesser extent SC:BW. I would love to get some sort of scene up an running focusing on SC2. I would say having 10 people all trying to work on thier own scene isn't really helping it. I would suggest people working on one site/forum/scene, just to try and establish a base of players/people. I will offer my services in anyway possible to help get things rolling. I have some exp in site building, and alot as moderator etc.

Also willing to play games, help people or be a punch drone for people to beat up, try builds on etc. Just add me SFXStrobe.683. Only in bronze, as i only bought SC2 after leaving WOW after 7 years, and what with Uni work and that whole real life, having a GF thing taking time, i dont have as much time to play as i would like, but i should have the summer to play, and as soon as Uni is done, i will be laddering like mad to get up into Diamond asap.

Gaming here is definitely frowned upon, you either have to join the legions of console C.O.D fanboys, be a hipster or some other form of liked stereotype to be recognised as cool..

I'm the only sc2 gamer that I've met / know in the UK, any other gamer plays fucking black ops because I think that game has become accepted in the mainstream now.
I'm living in Leeds it would be really sweet to see a bit of a UK community coming together. Even if it isn't many of us - I'll be joining the UK channel (:

the way new bnet is setup makes it even harder

I think the owner of Dignitas is a Brit, but the team is european. The owner is pretty famous in e-sports, but not famous enough for me to remember his name.

There's also a good channel, where quite a few uk players hang, called valor, which is technically a beginner league for europeans (check out the forum here http://www.valor.hostei.com/index.php and the TL pos about it here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=183457)

Feel free to come join even if you are in diamond (Masters not allowed tho )

But on topic, there is very little BW/SC2 in Ireland sadly. FPS and console gaming is dominant.

No not really because all of Europe seem to dislike us for some reason. :'(. Just Kidding, we dont really consider ourselves European because we arn't attached to mainland Europe and the fact that there is a language barrier between us and other Europeans. Most of us see more similarites in other English speaking countries such as US and Australia even though they are really far away.

On topic: I would love there to be a UK SC2 scene but most Brits play shitty FIFA (God I hate that game). Its like starcraft apart from everyone uses the same build, has the same economy and the skill ceiling is really REALLY low. Whats annoying is that the online part of that game is very much like an RTS game, if we could make people realise that FIFA is just a watered down RTS, then more people may start playing our great game. But each for there own I suppose, ill just keep playing starcraft.
If I wanted to play competitively (which I probably wont because im crap), I would just play in EU online tourneys and join an EU english speaking clan.

I'm From UK. Would love to meet up with other UK people to play, ideally you'd be on skype. Whilst touch typing is an ability of mine it's still damn convenient mid-game.

Oh and I'm bronze and currently playing pretty casually what with the workload at college, looking to get to Gold/Plat when the summer hols come around.

I don't consider myself European because my country isn't ran remotely well.

Oh and by the way I think there may be more like myself who just aren't aware of any LANs or tournaments going on in UK, I wouldn't know how to start searching for one as any previous attempts have been fruitless and all I hear about is unpaid prize-pools.
Ooh, I love it when they touch it.

I think there are a lot more like you Tommylew. I'd love to meet more UK Starcraft players.

I keep an eye on the UKStarcraft.net site and I'm planning on taking part in some of their lower level tournaments. I'm silver league. I also e-mailed in response to their article asking for more people to get involved with the site, but haven't heard back yet. I think that might be a good way to get more involved with the community.

Has anyone been to the iSeries LANs? There's going to be a Starcraft tournament at the LAN in Newbury in April. I can't attend the whole LAN but was considering getting a spectator ticket for the finals of the SCII tournie. Does anyone know if it's a friendly kind of event? I don't think any of my gaming friends will be going so I'm wondering if it would be possible to just turn up on my own and meet some fellow Starcraft fans.

That's good to hear. I'm a UoB graduate myself, but it's a few years ago now (I'm 30). I live up in Staffordshire now, about an hour away from Birmingham. Do you know of any gaming events being held in the Midlands? How did you and your friends meet up?

The iSeries LAN are generally pretty decent from a spectator PoV, I cant see any reason that you wouldn't be able to find some like minded SC2 fans to hang around and chat to if you were at the event yourself.

Also I believe that the guys from ukstartcraft.net will be around at it as well, so might be a good chance to get your foot in the door as such, and see what you can offer each other.

I dont know much about the Irish SC2 scene, but I'd like to think that from what I have seen, the Uk scene is just taking a little longer to find its feet, and is slowly starting to grow, but I guess we'll just have to work together and try take UK SC2 to where it needs to be.

I'll have to second this. Every time I've been to Troc there's always been at least a couple of people messing around in 2v2 or FFA or just watching other players.

Hi everyone. I'm from Cambridge, East Anglia. It'd be cool if there was a more a organised SC2 movement in UK eSports. It may be dominated by FPSs at the moment but that's only going to change if it starts with discussions like this.

Membury: it will start with threads like this, but its also going to take someone organising something like an event. I live in Colchester, so not far from you in Cambridge. About the only regular SC2 event that I know of takes place once a week in the Trocadero in London. We have a gaming centre in Colchester, but it is sadly only xbox 360 so its full of people who don't want to play pro evo or MW2 at home.

Just to say, due to TSL hours and my work hours I won't be hosting another TSL finals party this year. Someone else please set one up. It's amazing fun and it's the only tournament where we Brits have a good time for a get-together (10am for Korean Events isn't good party time)

Ah shame, the TSL 2 meetup was great (and so close to me!). Flicky is right, someone should really try and set one up.

The UK has always been a CS:S country though the CS:S scene has been dying in the last two years and I think is making way for SC2. To be honest I've never seen so many UK people on TL.NET since SC2 came out.

Anyway if anyone wants to add me on EU I'm LeeJ.204 or you could PM me with your details.

We now have a public teamspeak server for uk starcraft players. So feel free to come and hang out. It's only 40 slots at the moment (we paid for 50 and should have that sorted soon).

If there's a more up to date thread I'll post there (the other UK thread here seems to be more esports related), but I might as well put my name somewhere:

Plat

Feel free to add me people, but I only really play 2 or 3 nights in the week and a bit at weekends.

I actually just registered after 4 months of lurking to say I'm amazed there's anyone else in Bracknell who plays SC2. Anyway, I find the same problem a lot of others seem to have - Quake/CS and other FPS games became pretty damn big over here a long time ago, and I only know a couple of people who actually play Starcraft.

Not sure if it's been posted on TL yet, but no harm bringing attention to it again!

Yeah the UK has a couple of social stigmas surrounding PC gaming. It is for "nerds" and isn't really that common. Everyone as an Xbox 360/PS3 and plays COD or Halo on a basic level. Almost every PC gamer plays CCS. Oh yeah and Fifa and Pro Evo soccer and all that bullshit.

I know about 4 irl friends that play Starcraft, we aren't really full time players though. We mostly live around the South and don't know many others that play, so we usually just play amongst oursevlves.

Doncaster here, A few Gamers around, and there is a lan place in town, but all anyone plays is COD.
I have only just started playing SC2 myself with a friend on the net, straight into the mighty bronze league xD, But steadily learning as it goes.

Probably right fffla, vid games are getting more popular in UK, but probably just as a casual thing. Most of my friends game quite a bit, but it will be on CoD or Fifa etc and I doubt most of them know what rts stands for

That being said, if anyone wants to get some practice in, um, low plat level i think I'm at, 3.1k plat, 3rd in the division but idk, I only reached plat a few days ago so i just assume thats low plat?? Especially tvt's and tvz

@disco, the growing xenophobia in the UK worries me bro, UK has always been a tribal place though I suppose, no different to say many parts of Spain etc where a lot of people would prefer to just 'keep it local'

PCA was open for years, i was very said when it closed down, it was what originally got me into dota which i then (including the time i spent playing hon) i played for about 7 years. As for (maybe it was called Red Cafe?) the other one, it was okay as well.

Don't worry about it, i'm no awesome player, i haven't played enough games yet to get into masters, and because of the silly battle.net change i can no longer say that with proof, but as of last week i had like 60% win rate or so, i've played like 140 games in 1v1, because i only recently got back into it since the beta, and i don't play while i am at uni, but over easter i am planning to power hard and get into middle masters, i have played rts's for a long time and never really tried to be good, but i have decided to do that in SC2. The point i am getting in a very round about way is that i would love to help you practice, i have been helping my brother recently who managed to finally get out of silver so that was really cool, and just having a practice partner is helping me a lot because i can practice builds regardless of skill level of my opponents, and if you are practicing against pretty good build as opposed to the constant cheese that they have in the bronze league it will help you get out of it, and it would be really cool to help you do that.

(Surili.603) add me there and i'll be online a lot throughout the entire month of april.
If you want to talk or maybe let me watch you play (which i still do at uni i simply don't play myself) we can talk on skype if you have it, anyone can feel free to pm me if they want my name on skype.

Hope to see you online.

Sweet, cheers man. I'd really appreciate any help. I've been stuck up against the cheese for some time. I can never get enough time on the game to get good enough to counter the cheese. I think my micro skills have now managed to go beyond bronze league, but my macro lets me down.
So are you living in Colchester while at/not at uni, or are you here all the time? In some ways I wish that SC2 had been out while I was at uni as I know exactly what I would have been doing with my holidays!!! Here's my bnet profile http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/515546/1/Wychwood/ if you want to have a look. As you can see, I've not really played that much. Sadly that's what having a full time job has done to my ability to game! It's something I pick up and put down a lot. Problem with gaming so inconsistently is, if I play 4 games in an evening, I'll win one. Possibly. Some play against non-cheese, non-complete noob opponents will hopefully be really useful, cheers. Will send you an add this evening with any luck. Hopefully see you online soon

Do that, it would be good for me to start analysing how to defend cheese openings, as they will likely come in hand in tournaments. What race do you play?

On second thoughts we should probably switch this conversation to pm so that we don't get off topic.

I do in fact consider myself european, because i am in fact half french and half spanish, i have simply lived in england for the majority of my life. That said, i feel this thread is necessary because unlike Sweden, Germany or even France our RTS scene is more or less non-existent, and if we do not go out of our way to connect it will remain so.

Not even funny how little scene there is here - even in the major cities I have lived in Leeds, BRadford, now Sheffield) there are no gaming cafes, let alone proper net cafes.

Preston lad here, this is great because I used to run SC2UK.com and run UK tournaments which were very good and successful.

I might have to journey down to i42, it's great to know that we do have a strong SC2 scene.

I'm suprised that there's a UK community. Was pretty suprised! I used to play 1v1s vs people who're on skype at the same time, and they were from the UK...but mainly doing that with a few european friends of mine atm. I'd love to get on Skype with a few people and hit up some 1v1s before the new season starts!

Add me on SC if anyone's up for a few games: FoX -- 1147

For those of you who say there's no gamers near you, I feel your pain. I'm from North Wales, and it's really the back of beyond. I mean, unreliable internet, and all my friends play CoD & Xbox mainly. No co-workers to try and co-erce into gaming either, since I'm self employed. D'oh!

I'd love to see some LANs around the Manchester/Chester area...I'd be totally in for something like that. They're all too far away for me to attend though

Your best bet is probably the HMV gamerbase in central Manchester - they just announced the return of their Saturday SC2 tournaments, worth a look!

funcmode.815 if anyone wants to add me, probably about diamond level but I don't ladder enough to really know for sure - 9 wins of 11 games played :p

I live in epsom too, and used to live in new malden. everytime I go there I think to myself "my god im surrounded by sc pro's" ;P

Basically none of my irl mates play sc2 save for one who doesn't play often. I wish there were a gamer/internet cafe in epsom, I know there used to be a couple years back but I wasn't as big on gaming back then and it seemed pretty dead. Any of you know anything about places in epsom?

Alot of the silly questions in the topic can be answered by visiting ukstarcraft.net or http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=200440 which has most the stuff posted up on whats going on in the UK.

Also Twitch Edinburgh 2nd SC2 event signups are open check it out here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=206615

That's good to hear. I'm a UoB graduate myself, but it's a few years ago now (I'm 30). I live up in Staffordshire now, about an hour away from Birmingham. Do you know of any gaming events being held in the Midlands? How did you and your friends meet up?

Well most of us did Engineering Degree's and lived in the same halls first year, the others we met a CVGsoc (computer and video game society). Which the computers could barely play Dota on . We also met a couple of people though TCGsoc (trading card games) from Aston Uni.

Events. really not many events going on that I am aware of, since Omega Sektor (a massive lan centre near The Bullring) closed down. It quite depressing how little goes on that way around here.EIther that or I am not looking in the right places =/.

Hey guys... I'm American but am saving for an EU account by teaching low level Terran players. Anybody know a good deal on the Starcraft accout... because 60 euroes or 50 pounds is kinda steep.

It's currently £25 on Amazon UK, and I'm sure they deliver overseas. Unless there's some kind of block on them sending European copies outside the EU.

Yes that's the one, though I didn't turn up very often, I could never really get into TCG's. I can only think of one 'local' tbh. Shame it only lasted 2 years, but no one could really be bothered/had the time/was actually a student to keep it going.

Hey all. Just wondering, do many of you guys play much in terms of 2v2 or are you all mostly 1v1? Just wondering if anyone is around who is looking for some 2v2 practice partners?

With amazon they'll automatically add dutys + international shipping when you go to check out. Normally this works out to be alot more expensive. Best thing I can recommend is getting a guy to buy it on hardcopy here and just giving you the code key.

Back in the day they were everywhere, full with nerds playing 1942 and 1.6, over the last 10 years they've slowly closed down, now there's only a few left.

It's all because of the consoles.... Most people transitioned when Xbox Live came out.

Posted this in the teams thread, but I guess some people might not see it there.

In the process of starting a UK based team with a couple of mates. All 3 of us are diamond league at the moment, myself being Zerg, plus another Zerg and a Terran. We have known each other for a number of years coming from the Counter-Strike: Source scene along with bakor, who some of you already know from UKstarcraft - http://www.ukstarcraft.net.

We also have a few other mates that play less seriously ranging from diamond to silver league that I guess could be considered part of the team too.

We are pretty chilled out guys, all in our 20's and not really interested in any drama queens, but we enjoy SC2 and would like to play the game reasonably seriously.

We have a website set up at http://www.bbagaming.net. Would be cool to see some people on there, maybe expand the team and find some team leagues in the future.

5th highest doesn't mean scene is necessarily that good. There are few high calibre players, the only ones that are known around in the EU scene is Demuslim, possibly randy, pureball and Bling soon enough. The others, they're good, but not at the top EU level yet so compared to the likes of Germany, Finland, Sweden, all those other european countries we are pretty small.

I might be able to host a TSL3 finals party after all. I need to find out from work if I'm needed and I just need to wait for the confirmed finals date. It seems likely that it will be on Sunday the 8th but as it hasn't been announced I'm not certain. For this post I'm just assuming it'll happen on the 8th. If it happens on the 15th it would be ok too. If it was the 22nd then it would have to be somewhere else (go go family wedding...)

I can host it at my house (like Last Year) which is in West Sussex and it will cost whatever travel costs then food I suppose. I can't really have that many people staying here, I think last year it was 8 people or something but we have some more free rooms this time around. I'll talk more about sleeping when I can confirm if this happening or not. We can have some laptops or PCs setup here and have some mini-LAN like last year.

The other option is that we find some LAN centre and pay out the ass for that. That would probably be in London.

So obviously I need an idea of numbers. I thought I'd throw this in this thread for now so if it doesn't happen it's less official. Check out the thread from last year to see more info on what it would be like: Clickity

Only vote in the poll if you're certain on the date. If you unsure, you can post in the thread.

Ok, so who is up for i43?

I can finally go to an insomnia event (unless anything changes). There are early bird tickets (only £65) and group bulk buys etc. Let's sort something out.

I really wish for some big SC2 LAN in the UK. Sadly I can't see it happening short of the rumours of MLG.

Plat Zerg here looking for people to practice with. PM me ^__^

direct link to a uk site for starcaft news with a post about the biggest uk teams.

Also a thread somewhere on TL for latest news in the uk on this forum with a player list so you can see which players are actually masters or grandmaster only from the UK.

I'm looking for a fun event to take part in. I'm really not good enough to play in tournaments as yet, but I'd really like to get involved in something.

I am absolutely assured by members of TL that such things already exist. If somebody could show me what I can get involved in that would be fantabulous.

Hey Deathly,

I'm the guy who runs most the stuff in the UK, i know stuff is stale atm site wise cause we are invloded in alot new projects. We are focused on the top teir stuff but we run small fun events like King of the Hill and monobattles with the community. If your intrested should get on vent (info below) and get active with the community. There may be some more casual stuff we are working on but it's not confirmed yet.

I am a UK player but only diamond due to race switches. I definatly have to say though there isnt hardly any scene here as it seems it is dominated by Call of Duty which is a shame. Online on battle.net I play 1v1 Ladder solo and have no IRL friends that actually play Starcraft 2 due to the fact most of Uk Gamers atm I can proudly say are console gamers and aren't opening their eyes to the PC Gaming Scene which i feel is much more competitive and harder then any console game.

Yeh it is a shame that there is a lack or no scene of Starcraft 2 or any PC game in England or atleast where i live. I used to play WoW (back in the day) and was shuned due to the fact that they wouldn't open their eyes to it yet they play Call of Duty all day.

Hmm... Just guess we have to migrate haha xD

You should check out a project we just launched at Cybr called CybrCraft. As we're a UK company putting on a Euro tournament it would be nice if all you UK starcrafters get involved, even if just for fun!

www.cybr.com/events/cybrcraft_1

If the first one goes well we'll have a lot of prizes for the second!

Quick bump to let you know whats going on with me, for those of you who don't know me, I'm Joeeigel, and I run a university league within the UK, that boasted £500 in prizes (thanks to TotalBiscuit for sponsoring) and 32 teams signed up last season, this season we've partnered with the CSL to bring students in the UK a way to compete with other institutions from across the country, and soon europe. www.starcrafthub.net for all your uk needs is a very updated website regarding everything uk related in sc2, also the channel UK on battle.net has ALWAYS got at LEAST 30 people in the sometimes close to 50-60( lot less in the morning). the is plenty of Uk players posting on the forums here.

The is also a uk tourney every tuesday on ESL for uk only, the is a uni team leaque played every satruday. Not sure why you say nobody really plays when I know of antoher 15-20 who dont even go in the UK channel so the is probably many many more.

On a slighlty unrelated note, does anyone know of any upcoming tournaments in the UK next year (2012)? Would love to go to some and maybe compete (altough I'd get owned :p)

Just started getting into SC2 the past 2 weeks or so. I used to play CS (in my younger ultra-competitive years), so this is all very new to me and I don't really know what I'm doing.

Also, I don't have any gamer friends anymore. Everyone's "growing up" or something. If anyone fancies guiding me through the basics of this game, I'd be uber-grateful.
This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.

I already had the figures from Newcastle. There's 10 cities with Barcrafts in the UK now. I was just getting the figures together from all of them and hadn't heard from those three at the time, but everyone has got in contact and given me their numbers now.

I've compiled them all and written an article at StarcraftHUB.net. I even made a graph of Barcraft attendance out of beer glasses - check it out

Just in case people don't know. Gamerbase are holding a bi-weekly tournament on a Saturday.

http://www.gamerbase.com/?a=post&id=119807

Last week was really fun and I believe the number of people who attended around the UK was 56, and it would be a shame if it died down.

Hi guys,

Just a quick shoutout to the UK scene, Karnage eSports recruitment is currently open for:

- 1x masters protoss
- 1x masters zerg
- 1x masters terran

Players are expected to participate in the community on a regular basis, play the odd clan war and compete in regular online tournaments. The ability to attend lans is also a big plus!

Hi guys, I'm trying to get a list of links and information about the UK SC2 scene, including teams, players, casters, tournaments, barcrafts etc. I'd love help if any of you can give me any information to help me.

I'm compiling the list for myself, but am willing to share it for people that are interested.

Thanks,

Nathan.

Here is a list of UK Teams and Players we have compiled at starcrafthub. If you don't mind sharing your list list it would be great to include any teams that you have we may have missed, or any updated rosters:

http://www.starcrafthub.net/index.php?topic=96.0

We also have a BarCraft map here, although your best bet is checking their facebook/twitter as events are so regular these days information is constantly changing:

http://www.starcrafthub.net/index.php?topic=81.0

We will be working on a UK caster list in the near future.

Thanks! Those links are great.
I'm looking into getting a list of UK streamers too. Having a place with clear list for all of this stuff may help people wanting to get into the UK scene. I know it would have helped me if someone could have said "here is a link to everything you need".

As I'm sure many of you are aware Multiplay i45 took part last weekend. Although it wasn't a big international event, most of the top players in the UK were present.

The final standings can be found here: http://www.starcrafthub.net/index.php?topic=327.0

A number of organisations also conducted video interviews at the event. We have compiled a list for your viewing pleasure here: http://www.starcrafthub.net/index.php?topic=329.0

For full coverage of the event including group stage results and the complete brackets, visit the Liquipedia page here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Multiplay_UK_i45

Thanks, and keep supporting the UK scene!

All English people do is go to pubs, watch football, drink beer, and care about the way they look or appear to others.

I moved from France to study in England, needless to say all my friends in France played StarCraft and / or other games. Here, they don't even know what it is. Sometimes it just really gets on my nerves and I am considering moving to a different country, since I can't find any friends which I share the same interests.

That's weird, because few of my friends spend much time in pubs, none of them follow football, many prefer wine or spirits to beer, and are determinedly casual.

It's almost as though I've slowly cultivated a circle of like-minded friends over a lifetime of living in a country.

Yeah thats what every single person in England does every single day, not one of them does anything different, if you're having trouble finding friends that like Starcraft or gaming in general, I think you may be looking in the wrong places.

Just interested to know, cool list of players from UK and Ire on SC2ranks but there are a lot missing, do folks have to register on the site and all first to appear?

Over in NI we have both the UK and Ireland scenes that we can be a part of, we've neglected our British brethren a bit so we'll try get that sorted out!

I don't know how much more CORRECT you could be.

I live in the UK and I get this feeling everyday and I hate it, I love playing SC2, but in the UK, there is no love for it, only Xbox FPS games sadly.

I decided when im going to be looking at uni's im going to see about studying in Korea, I've already started learning the language and it's so much easier than it seems at first impressions XD

I'd really think carefully about such a move, immersing yourself in another culture can be illuminating, or isolating depending on how it goes and it's a big step. On the other hand, I respect your balls for even thinking about such a thing, would be an interesting life experience for sure.

That said I do hate living in the UK sometimes too and do long for a different ambience, but is Korea a bit drastic?

I personally have spent a lot of time up in Scandinavia, especially Finland and I love that area of the world, bit more relaxed atmosphere to things. Also reasonably priced if you want to study at university level there, always worth a look, especially as you can study quite a few topics in English.

Not lecturing btw, good luck with whatever you want to do, but don't go jumping in is all I'm saying.

America's often insanely expensive unless you are an absolutely exceptional student and can get scholarships. There are opportunities that differ according to personal circumstance just that's what I found when I was briefly looking into it a few years ago.

If you want eSports to be bigger in the UK, then maybe you should try and make it bigger. The UK scene is not great at the moment, but we do have a CSL and then there's the UK county cup. Maybe you could participate in, or even try and help run events like these. Maybe you could try and start your own, I'm sure if you asked you would find a lot of support. My point is you don't need to necessarily move to find eSports, if you can create it yourself.

ah, refreshing british humour :D

I'm looking for a 2v2 partner, and I thought I'd try the UK thread first, seeing as...well I'm british. I love SC2 but have no love for 1v1s anymore, I got bored of laddering on my own and there is only so many times I can persuade my clan-mates to play team games. What I like from gaming is working as a team towards victory (no I'm not playing a moba). So I've decided to hit up 2v2 as soon as I can find a dedicated 2v2 partner. I play 1v1 around plat level but I don't care how good/bad you are. I'm an admin for a clan so we have free use of teamspeak etc.

Add me in game (ETLSpectres.396, or skype - kase_86), I'd like to ladder at least 3 times a week for a decent number of games.

Also, shameless plug, my clan is recruiting masters terrans and protoss players for our ESL squad - www.eternal-esports.org.
