What
The ESL's UK qualifiers. As someone who wants to get the UK scene going as much as possible, I will advertise ESL's event for them...

You know about the (Wiki)Intel Extreme Masters Season V right? You watched the (Wiki)IEM Season V - Global Challenge Cologne. Well now's your chance to get to the European Championships! Check out the link below to sign up for the UK Qualifiers. The winner of this event goes "through to Qualification Round 1 of the Intel Extreme Masters Season V StarCraft II European Championship." I don't exactly know what that means but sign up:

>>>>HERE<<<<

Tournament will be cast and streamed at http://www.teamliquid.net/video/userstream.php?user=tyr

It's a huge oppurtunity to get a chance to go to Germany for the European championships and I hope as many of our top players sign up to play!

When
6:40pm-7pm Check in, 6th September.

Hype
I will be doing my best to hype this up. I will poke many top players, probably interview them before and after the online event. This is a big chance for every top player so sign up! Note that DeMusliM can't play as he's not in the UK right now! Now you have no excuse. I'll probably make a nice Liquipedia page for the winner too!

Bump this thread to let people know and sign up! Let's make this a great show! If it's cast... I will do my best to make sure it is. Somehow. I'll work on that.

Go go UK players!

can someone explain this process, because I see Polish IEM's, Czech IEM, etc ... how does this thing work?

What was the IEM Global Challenge and how does it relate to these other IEM's (which all seem location specific?)... ? Is there an IEM for Latin America too?

The ESL stuff is tough, check the Season V stuff for a brief summary.

These qualifiers are for each country to get fair representation at the European Championships. You go through these, then another big event, then to the European championships. The Euro championships set you up for the Global.

The NA servers were done differently. There were 4 online qualifers for any Americas country to enter, but they were held on the NA server. The top 4 from each of those go to the group competition. Then the top 8 from that tournament go to the American finals.

I suggest no one else does. More players makes it harder to win

Sure looks like that, you must have to qualify through Germany according to "This qualifier is open to residents ONLY. Nationality/passport does NOT count!"

Residents only :\

It's like WCG. Some countries will have qualifiers for the main season like the ones you mentioned there. For those who have no qualifiers will have to go through a European qualifier which is slighty harder.

DeMusliM, yup, sorry, you live in Germany now so you have to qualify through Germany Your moving to German is also why the UK only has 1 QR1 spot, your history counted towards Germany this season

flicky, THANK YOU for this post, you're awesome! It's been on my ToDo list to post on TL

The main meat of the IEM are the continental (American, European and Asian) Championships, which mainly take place online with national qualifiers to the Championships, and then offline finals

Each continent has its own qualification system, but in Europe we have the same system as the Champions League in football - national qualifiers in every country (usually EPS where possible) that feed into the European Championship with a slot distribution based on a country ranking, with qualification rounds

On the side are Global Challenges which are offline tournaments, entry varies but it is usually application and invite based

The top players/teams from the continental championships and global challenges will qualify for the World Finals (the exact distribution is till TBA)

I'm going to certainly try my luck.

My message to players like me (so fairly average so/so players) is, if you want an Esport scene in this country, get out there, sign up and play, I'm going to try and promote this as much as possible as well, get all my friends to sign up.

If you want a good UK SC2 scene, the thing we are going to need before anything else is people, so signup, and tell everyone you know who is remotely interested in SC2 to play in this event and others like it.

I'd sign up just to get my ass kicked, but unfortunately I don't get home from work until after the check in time

Good luck to all those who do participate though!

Just looking at the player list and it's a marked improvement over who was there before!

Now we got a tournament! Good luck to all involved!

Where can we see the player list ? I don't find it on their site.
Or maybe I wasn't looking at the right place ...
