After I finish this program, I am going to do a split of Madcow's 5x5 (or another workout possibly) for M/W/F, and 30 minutes of HIIT for T/Th/Sa. I am looking to retain muscle and cut fat. Lately, I have been reading a ridiculous amount about cutting and bulking, and have found that most of the literature separates them into two cycles. Basically, the majority opinion is that to bulk, you have to get fat; Ronnie Coleman looks like a whale on steroids in the off season. Furthermore, everybody assumes that when you cut, you are going to lose some of the muscle that you gained. I am hoping to defy this with my upcoming program. Serious lifters are generally against it, but I do not want an off season and an on season. I want to look good all year. I'll try to update this next month with some pictures of my starting point and progress.

You can gain muscle without gaining much if any fat except the process will be a lot slower. If you do certain phases like bulk/cut it tends to be a bit quicker than staying lean year round. But of course being lean year round tends to make people's confidence go up a lot so if you're willing to sacrifice gains for that then by all means go for it. I think a lot of people would choose this option

But sweet to have a little journal, have been thinking about writing somewhere but all hardcore training forums make me less motivated because of everyone lifting so damn heavy and making me feel week.. SC forum is perfect! ![]() Been reading here like 5 hours a day since beta also, gotta make a first post finally!

![]() did the press for the first time using a barbell. i'll need a lot more practice doing those. had a ton of trouble putting myself in the correct pressing position, and one side always seemed longer than the other lol. didn't expect it to be so technical. DOMS here i come!

Also been doing these chart workouts posted around my HS weight room that have more volume than i usually do based off your current 1RM. starting off at like 5x10 then 6x8 then 6x6 etc working down to 1-3 rep maxes at 15-20 pounds heavier than your original max. I've done 2 out of 7 so hopefully in ~2-3 weeks i'll be squatting ~425 and deadlifting ~450. 8 reps at 335 for deadlift was hard but it felt really good. Shins are still murdering me so i'm going to stay off them for a couple weeks except for rugby. Will be going down to ohio this weekend for a huge collegiate rugby 7's tournament that will be aired on NBC. MSU was supposed to get invited until they found out we were a d2 team for rugby ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.usasevenscci.com/ /end random thoughts also, glutamine is awesome! I've been drinking a cup of coffee and a protein shake with ~5g glutamine and have been able to go for ~90 minutes really strong.

Cal and BYU are perennial powerhouses that rape shit every year, moreso cal. Cal's 2nd string can beat almost every team in the country. And since BYU isn't going i'd expect Cal to win, but it is 7's which is an entirely different game so anything can happen. I've played with a lot of the guys from top 10 teams like BGSU and ND at the midwest all-stars so i look forward to seeing how they do. (midwest represent! we kind of get shat on by the rest of the country just like the big 10 does in football ![]()

on another note, it's absolutely amazing how everyone in the gym i go to uses machines. not one person touches the barbells or does any compounds (except for the odd bench press). it's just bicep curls and/or machines while they look at themselves in the mirror. amazing.

It really does hurt. always try to get in at least once a week even if your super busy to stave off atrophy. And yes, 90% of people in gyms are ignorant vain twats T_T It really bugs me when i see 9 people come in to do bicep curls then leave but now i just go to my high school gym that is 90% free weights and empty most of the time.

It's not even really vanity... People are lazy. If getting strong or a good body was easy everyone would have one. But it takes damn hard work to do that -- you gotta lift heavy and work hard in the gym.... God forbid anyone actually do that... in a gym..... Why don't people eat healthy? Because it's easier/more convenient to buy garbage food. Hell, if you make a list of the 7 deadly sins.... wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony... I'd say the biggest ones that the industrial world struggles with are all of them honestly but regarding healthy nutrition it's sloth/gluttony. edit: oh yeah, if you take that much time off you're gonna have to work back into it slowly... -_-
