Ok so the may the 2nd I have a somewhat important competition that will be ~90min running. Long story short I really lack in top speed and would like some inspiration to how I should plan my training to make it a little bit better. I have some injury problems so I have to try to avoid running every day wich makes everything a bit more difficult. I'll probably going to go for cycling the days I wont run and vice versa. Endurance is not really a problem, just the lack of speed.
I'm mainly thinking various intervals should be the way to go here.
I have a few days already planned and they are as following:
Saturday 24: Competition ~40min Sunday 25: Cycling ~5h Tuesday 27: Test competition ~50min (I can skip this one) Wednesday 28: Competition ~1h
hey eshlow, i'm having this lower back problem. whenever my back is in positions similar to how the back is when doing deadlifts or barbell rows, that's when i feel pain on the right side. it's not like the pain is bad or anything, it's just that annoying nagging pain. i've had this like for a while now, at least 2 months and it comes on and off.
any ideas on how to rid myself of this problem??
Is it musclar or spinal/bony?
Read through this and take some notes or details about what affects you and what doesn't or where the pain is. Thn shoot them over to me either here or PM:
ok just checked out the link. from what i can tell, the pain is definitely muscular and it's somewhere around the erector spinae (if not the erector spinae itself). it doesn't hurt anymore but i have a feeling that if i do back extensions again the pain will be back. it just seems like whenever i lift stuff off the floor, that part of my back (right side btw) seems to take all the load.
Try to get some deep tissue massage and see if that helps loosen stuff up.
And do reverse hypers instead. See if those help (e.g. you can do them).

Powerlifter checking in! My current bench 300, squat 465. and deadlift 475.
Trying to do a meet in December and meet these goals!
post pics, i'd like to see what you would like doing all that, it's impressive
~but no joke i'd like to see how fit you actually look
here you go... I really don't look like I can lift that much I know.
check out those legs! wow. not exactly my cup of tea but still very impressive nonetheless.
on another note, i check out the country's top powerlifting gym forum from time to time and i've read quite a lot of stories on how guys have greatly improved their lifts since joining (a lot actually joined because they couldn't break their plateaus). seems like a dumb question but i'll ask anyway. what exactly is it that you powerlifters do to get so freakishly strong?? i find it really fascinating.

Eating A LOT... then as for training, it's really different for everyone. I really have to say that those 2.5lb plates are your best friends. Adding them after each workout really adds up. 2.5lb plates... I love you.
My training style is mostly evolved over the past 5 years from basic bodybuilding volume routines, to DC training (way too unexperienced for me to get into), to Madcow's 5x5 (which I highly recommend), now on Wendler's 5/3/1. Wendler's 5/3/1 forces you to make PRs (personal records) at different rep ranges every week, then eventually work to a new 1 rep PR for that exercise.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1R_hTGOteU And here's a video for a beta key contest I entered (which I lost), but I do some weight training in between the stunts, etc.
I should take more vids, I really don't have much.
LOL miscer at BB.com. I used to lurk there when I was bored... tons of hilarious stuff
LULZ! Whattup fellow misc brah!!?? I was hoping to make it into the finals with that vid and have them vote for me.
Fuuuuck awesome physique brah. Mirin' your quads.
GJDM (another miscer lol)
tanks brah! i'd give you some green but there isn't a system here like that (thank god lulz). BRB miscin'
ok this needs to be bumped anyways(2nd page wtf?) but got an easy question for you eshlow
during pike compressions, should I be breathing? because, well, pike compressions are hard. they don't make me cramp at all actually but they just seem like I really have to pull my legs up so hard, and when I do that I can't breathe at all. to breathe I have to let off a little bit. so should I let off and breathe or just pull up as hard as I can during the 10 seconds?
hey, furthermore, when i do the sit and reach stretch should i be pointing my toes forward, or back? and then also the same question but for when I do the compression.

I'm currently lurking there too, not posting too much just some questions. Looks like a very good community, I listen to the things the members said, controlled my diet, and I actually lost 2 pounds this week :S.

You put me eto shame in terms of body weight to lifting ratio, but you're also 6 inches shorter lol. I think my bench is around 285, squat 405, deadlift 435. I'll see what i can do about catching up to you. Not really a power lifter though, i just do it to get stronger for rugby.

It is possible to breath while doing them, but if you're having trouble then you probably can't yet.
Most max effort skills you won't be able to breath at first for, but once you get stronger and have more control you can (like handstands if you're doing those as well).
It's fine to go valsalva (aka hold the breath) during any exercise.. as long as it's not too long so that you pass out or something. 10s for these is definitely OK.
Uh, as a gymnastics purist I'd say point the toes. It really doesn't matter, but when you start doing skills like handstands, back levers, planche, etc. it looks cleaner/nicer if you point them.
Most BBoys do flairs with flexed feet and it kinda looks awkward (to me at least).

I'm like, this isn't that amazing. Until I got to 2:30 that is, holy shit!
anyways I counter with this:
note that I don't really approve of this stuff because I don't really like people risking their lives for stupid reasons lol
