If you're not overweight or trying to lose fat, potatoes are fine. I'm working from home today so I had time to make lunch, I grilled 3 large pieces of fish, cut tons of carrots, celery, asparagus and other random greens, threw it into the frying pan with some salt/pepper, and chicken stock. Added the fish to a plate, some lemon juice, veggies on the side. I fell really freakin' full and satisfied right now. And it all tasted pretty amazing. I could make a lot of variations of what I just had with different meats and veggies, it doesn't have to be "salad".

There's some myth running around that the body can only use X amount of protein at once so you have to eat more meals frequently to gain muscle. That's false. I have no clue where you're getting the 3 hours thing. Most of what I'm saying is based on the book called "Burn the fat, feed the muscle" by lifetime natural bodybuilder Tom Venuto. I like to follow bodybuilders advice when it comes... to well... everything. they are the biggest and leanest people on earth, and I don't know a single one of them that does not eat around the clock (6 meals a day usually). One even gets up in the middle of the night for a meal. Do you have a link to studies/experiments about the effect of 3 meals vs 5-6 a day? Or any research saying that food digests over a period of 8 hours? It seems pretty logically to me that if you did the extreme and ate one meal a day, you'd have awful results compared to if you spread that one meal out over 6 in the same day (both muscle gain and fat loss wise).

Thanks. I just ordered a bottle. Also, I got a pair of these Risto weightlifting shoes coming in the mail. I actually ordered the cheaper ones, but they were out of stock in my size so Risto agreed to send me the newer version for no extra cost. Score. My first day of fasting was ... well, not gonna lie: rough. I was without food for 26 hours, and my stomach was going crazy when I was teaching my last lessons of the night. I was dead dog tired at the end of my day, but to be fair, I spent the first ten hours of it at one job, and the next four hours of it at my next job. For now, I'm eating fried eggs, some tsukune (a type of meatball), and kimchi. Delicious. I'm gonna try to get in two days of fasting a week. Funkie: do we need to talk about your game? Dimsum: considering I can't even backsquat 120kg atm when I'm 95kg in bodyweight, I can't be too hard on you. One comment though ... you have brass balls to try that insanely weight so many times.

Here's a good review referencing a lot of studies and explaining how it came to be that most people think more meals spread throughout the day is good for you. If you look around the site I think he even has a review of Venuto's book. Certainly a single meal a day is not a good way to live for a lot of reasons, but spreading 5-6 out over 18 hours of waking has no scientific basis behind it.

Thankfully he cites the studies so I didn't have to look them up myself. That would've sucked. As for food digesting you can just google that. Often food stays in the stomach for anywhere from 0-2 maybe 3 hours because it doesn't release it all at once. that's probably where the myth generated from. But it takes between 2-8ish hours to run its way from stomach through small intestine to large and then beyond there that's when you eliminate waste. Think of it in terms of sleep. Full digestion takes about 8 or so hours hence why after eating and then going to sleep we have to take a bowel movement in the morning.

I've read through a lot of the material on that website, and it seems to make sense. Since my goals are to be as big and as lean as I can be year round, this approach seems to be exactly that and outlines many of the same issues I have with more traditional methods. However, he does not seem to go much into detail... well about anything besides when to fast and when not to fast (but does not even say if you should do this every day, off days, or whatever). If my goals were to add muscle and stay lean, what would I do on an IF program? anybody able to fill in the blanks here? He even mentioned that he doesn't do curls or ab work and well... look at him, rofl. I don't need an education in healthy foods, but does anyone have enough experience with IF programs to fill in these blanks? thinking calories, workouts (throw in cardio?) and how often to fasting days. I dont know about IF, i've been eating 4-5 meals a day because i find i'm less hungry when i have a nice 500-800 calorie meal every few hours and it fits my schedule pretty well. But when i was getting lean and adding strength i was lifting heavy + HIIT 3 days a week with cardio(rugby practice) twice a week. Diet was definitely a decent deficit because i was pretty damn active 5-7 days a week and eating 4, maybe 5 meals a day. And yeah i don't do a lot of ab or bicep work and put 90% of the guys at my gym to shame when it comes to that department. Compound lifts + diet for the win. Did some powercleans today, did a few sets of doubles at 225 and it felt awesome. Then i realize dimsum can do 30 more pounds and weighs 60 pounds less than me and i felt like a little girl again ![]()
