Forefoot and midfoot striking are biomechanical advantageous (and natural way of running, barefoot running-studies clearly show this), I am not doubting that, I am no armchair-quarterback drinking my beer and yelling "lol science is wrong". The part I am questioning is mainly if it is necessary / adavantageous for everyone to switch technique. It's just a matter of fact that we are wearing shoes and (probably because of this) like 75% of people are running heel-to-toe. Now, there is often a best way to do things, but realistically, the majority of people would probably be very well off if they were running 30-40 minutes 3 times per week constantly. Do all these people really gain more by changing technique than they give up if it really is very uncomfortable to change? And obviously, some bodies adapt faster than others, some are more ressilient to change than others. I don't wanna expand on this now, since then it will be a huge ass post again (and I hadn't had time to check the links eshlow provided). Also, I believe each type of running has it's place. I mean, I don't have a hill in my room to check right now, but as far as i remember, running downhill I would like to heel-strike more rather than falling forward. And as I said before, I am actually experimenting a lot with different kinds of technique lately. Finally, here is a nice video explaining running technique (and pro-forefoot), for people who are interested in this kind of stuff. http://journal.crossfit.com/2010/08/barefoot-running.tpl

There's a study somewhere which I don't feel like pulling up now which focused on advanced distance runners over 6 or 8 weeks. They had about 20 of them switch to POSE running, and all of them saw decrements in performance (for obvious reasons because of running efficiency and using different muscles). Even WITH the decrements in performance IIRC 80% of them decied to stick with midfoot strike rather than go back to heel toe. Maybe it feels better/more natural after you get used to it? I don't know. I have always been a midfoot striker thankfully. All I know is that its generally better for overall health of the mucsles, ligaments, and joints in the lower body. Am I saying everyone should switch? Yes, I'd like that to happen. Is it realistic? No unfortunately...... so I'll do what I can to help those with injuries who persist in either. But it would be malicious of me if I didn't tell you that heel-toe strike has a greater propensity for orthopedic injury.

Go team! Yeah, Starting Strength is awesome :D. Some people take years to get the strength results we get in a few months. Yeah, I'm a fanboy. At my gym I can't tell how much anybody squats because nobody squats right. It's all quarter squats, and sometimes, half squats. One dipshit loads like 600 pounds on the bar with the vagina pad, squats down 2", and then re-racks the weight. FFS man, stop wasting my time and go home.

But yes, yesterday was more like a recovery session, since the day before (Thursday) there was this event at my gym where they went nutzo and gave like 2 hour session cardio, I wanted to die, and my legs were all sore today so yeh, maybe I did this to myself.! ![]() don't worry man!; we got this bitch DOWN!. I'll keep on doing SS until the end of november, and if December allows it, I'll do it, or advance to the Novice program. ![]()

Been to 3 different physiotherapists, of whom only the last one had any competence. Seems like my supraspinatus is damaged, but I'm not sure if its an inflammation or tear, he couldnt tell.He told me that the injury was somewhere between 2-3 out of 10 on a seriousness scale. Everyday use is not problematic, but any pressing is painful (thus not doing any). Pulling is pain-free, but I'm kinda scared to put on too much weight. Been doing some self-massaging with a tennis ball, as well as some RC exercises, which relieves the almost constant, dull pain. If i try to press anything, I will feel a sharp pain in the shoulder. This pain also arises when I put my arm in certain positions, i.e. holding my neck with my hand and rotating the arm. Any experience/advice guys? Thinking about giving it a month before getting another session with the last physio. Rehab is more important than lifting.
