This thread quickly turned into a weightlifting thread. Not that it's bad, but I would also like to hear from some other people who do other stuff, e.g. crossfit. I used to run a lot, but injured my knee and can't really run anymore (not long distances such as 10+ km anyway). I also used to lift weights A LOT, but I wanted to try something different. So now I am all about crossfit.

If you want to improve your performance you SHOULD be weightlifting as a long distance runner... But yes, most of your work is going to be doing longer runs, and a minority working on intervals and finishing sprints.
Post away in the thread though if you want... the more the merrier.

Were you going somewhere with this? Nobody is excluding other activities, weightlifting and eating a lot happen to be the way to achieve the goals of most of the people here. I play a lot of rugby but there's not a lot of ruggers here so it doesn't generate much discussion so I stick to diet and exercise Edit: not trying to sound like an ass lol

Yes.
I also Swim and play Soccer. I like to do Taebo Cardio Classes which are a good fucking way to understand your body, and how much endurance you can build with it. I also, want to be able to do Manna, but that will take quite some time since I still lack the overall strength to achieve such thing. Any tips?
In other words, you need to bring up the subject so people can discuss it, I speak for myself when I say, I wasn't into this Squat X or Bench X, but when I started doing it, it's actually a pretty good reminded of what you can accomplish is you set your mind to it, with discipline and a little bit of dedication and self-awareness of what the fuck you are doing. .
Motherfucker is as strong(er) as i am while weighting 40 poounds less. CRAZY explosion. Wish it showed a 40m/100m speed. Really shows me how fucked up my broad jump his, my vertical compared to his is ~26 to 40inches while my broad jump to his is ~9'8 to 10'3 lol

i actually grew up playing rugby and watching a lot of NRL cause rugby is huge back in PNG.
i'm honestly surprised people even play rugby over there especially since you guys have (american) football. i always thought rugby just involved the oceania region and some countries europe. i guess i was wrong.
Eshlow, thanks for the explanation on my knee problem. It fixed itself today somehow. I was a little worried going into the gym, but I experienced no pain while squatting.
At the same time, I made major progress in my squat form. Before this, I was just kind of "lowering" myself on the squat... just kind of going down. However, today I learned the real importance of sitting back into it and driving my hips down. As a result, I squatted 112kg with practically no problem. I'm feeling very comfortable and hoping to hit 135kg by the end of the year, if not sooner.

Yeah, most people miss that kind of stuff.
You don't sit back and spread the floor with the feet then your knees are going to collapse in and get a lot of pressure on the knees = knee pain for most people
