medical question: I am occasionally feeling some mild discomfort on the outside part of my left forearm, around the place where the bone is. I usually feel it if I'm holding something, like the handle of a pan. The feeling may last a day or two, but it tends to go away if I leave it alone.
Could this be some mild tennis elbow, or maybe something else? Is there any exercise I can do to help prevent this, or is rest my best bet here?

110kg clean off block doubles! Was feeling good so i went heavy. I wanted to do singles for a max , but I clarked the bar at 115 so i went back down to 110 to attempt doubles. First try i hit the first clean but then i clarked the 2nd. Tried it again and I hit it. I'm terrible off the blocks but my form is getting better. I finished off workout with clean pulls, then did light clean shrugs. Also tried going back to the barbell to just work on form after workout. I got that from watching Chinese training videos. :D

I feel like I'm hitting my limit.
Today I tried to do squats again but during warmups my IT band flared up again. The squat set might be easy but afterwards I have trouble walking 'cause something's cramping up.
I had to reset on overhead press.
And for chinups, there was this strange pain that shot through my shoulder (rotatorcuff?) down my tricep to my elbow. It still hurts. I can't really do the chinups like that.
*sigh*
I'm gonna get a deep tissue massage on Friday and hope it goes away...

have an extra day of rest, its easy to overwork yourself and itll just get worse and totally demotivating if you dont rest up

I lie in the centre of the bench with my back in natural arch. I use a wide grip and bring the bar to my nipples IIRC. I tense my body and glutes (ass?) and have legs to stablise properly. I do 3x5. When I strain, eg last reps of a set, the centre-right side of my top back hurts. Its a really unpleasant pain/sensation and grows the more I strain during a set; I push through it to end the set then feel relieved when the pain almost immediately goes away. I've tried making sure i'm in the centre of the bench, trying to shuffle myself around in slightly different positions, even tried un-arching my back a bit to get the pressure off it. It does feel like some part of my back is "unsupported" which causes the pain. Idk.. Does anyone relate to this problem? Thanks Was browsing through the old thread and came across eshlow's article here http://www.eatmoveimprove.com/2009/10/a-closer-look-at-vitamin-d/
It's probably either a rib or facet that's out of place, but I wouldn't put it past a maybe pulled muscle. Does it hurt when you're not exercising?

Nah, what kind of stretching are you doing for german hangs? If you're not getting more flexible try longer holds of upwards of 45-60s.

Does sound like some lateral epicondylitis... this should help:

You probably need to get a foam roller and use it a lot...
And the shoulder pain sounds like possibly impinged radial nerve. I agree withthe massage... see if you can find an ART practitioner.

its not a pulled muscle, it was a common occurance last year when i went to the gym too.
i DO have out of place ribs. the ribs on my right side stick out by half a centimetre at my sternum (front centre). my father and sister have the same thing. it used to REALLY suck when i was skinny but body hair and a bit of flesh has made it less noticeable visually.
it does cause a jamming of bones often: i have to stretch my chest by arching my back in order to "unclick" the bones (like some people click their knuckles, maybe). afaik there is no "pain" associated with it. i suspect i might have had problems when i was running, but i havent done running for so long i dont remember.
my dad had surjery to fix it back in the 70s but im not sure if it was successful, i think it wasnt for some reason. all i know for sure is massive obvious scarring all down his chest where they cut :/
this guy wants to stick everyone and their mother into a corset http://www.staylace.com/medicaladvice/med_36.htm
heres a thread with people saying they have it to varying degrees http://forum.purseblog.com/health-and-fitness/uneven-front-rib-cage-440990.html
pretty much what these guys say: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=838257&highlight=uneven ribs
i wouldnt have associated uneven ribs with back instability but maybe you're right. ill look for a thread that talks about that

Today I could only do 110kg squat for 4/3/2 and 58kg overhead press for 3/3/3. I managed to do 130kg deadlift for 1x5, but I downright failed on my squats and overheads. I have no idea how I'm supposed to manage an 88x5x3 bench this Friday -_-. My lifts have all gone to hell suddenly, and I have no idea why.
Maybe I had an off day. Maybe I was in too big of a hurry at the gym due to my night lessons. I'll repeat that squat weight on Friday. I have no idea how I'm going to break 135 on squat at this rate... I'm 25kgs off and already needing to reset .
Oh well. On a side note, I think changing my program to Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday would be a good option for me at this point considering I have a lot more time on these days.

I'm not doing any lifts as near as complex as some of the ones you're doing but its my first time really doing squats, deadlifts, press and power cleans. And I realize already since I'm adding like 10 lbs per squat as I add more weight I'm noticing my form is getting worse.
To update on my goal gained like 5 lbs last week. Happy about that and that was only drinking 8 glasses of 2% fat reduced milk per day. Hopefully the end of this week I'll gain access to whole milk and try gallon. Though sleep amount has been terrible as ever.
Something I noticed I've been having around like the middle/end of my workouts I sort of get a bit light headed. I've been wondering if it was maybe related to breathing when lifting since I usually don't focus on it.
|
Breath, I usually do it, when I'm on the "mid section of the exercise.
Say, I'm up, I get down on the squat, I get up again, breath, go down, and repeat.

edit: oh and for whatever reason my back/spine doesn't hurt anymore which is great. bench press here i come!

nice job! Hopefully your back pain never comes back :D
@ilikestarcraft Yeah practice makes perfect. Always warmup with barbell for a couple sets. If you dont do it right during warmups, you will not do it right during your heavy sets.

alright. ive only been stretching for like 20-25s my grip tends to go out quickly from that position, also my bar slightly rotates because of my setup... it's hard to explain (it has a grip on the outside of it which is loose)
but ill try to hang for longer for sure thanks

I've seen some physical therapy stuff about how to reset that if it's somethign that just occurred and popped out. But if it's congenital it may not be able to be fixed.. hmm.
It may be a good idea to talk to a physical therapist about it. There's some strain counterstrain techniques that might work for it.

YEAHHHHHHH
MAN I LOVE SS!.
It's fucking amazing, what it gives you, and how you set yourself to reach that goal, and you do it, following the program, and just being serious about it!.
Squat, Power Cleans and Press today, did them all good!. Struggled a bit on the last set of Power Clean (12kg(on each side)+bar weight). It felt amazing!. .
My legs feel a whole lot more powerful!
