Old Laptop:
Intel i3-2370M CPU @ 2.40 GHZ (Passmark Benchmark: 2,768 -- High mid range CPUs) 6 gigabyte of RAM HD3000 graphics card (GPUmark : 307 -- mid to high range) Hard Drive: Hitachi HTS547550A9E384 (Benchmark: 451 -- Low midrange drive)
I usually have photoshop open, 3-4 web browsers (With something like 20 tabs on each open), filezilla, some pdfs, texts etc. It's tolerable but sometimes not so much. When I'm creating designs on photoshop it's a pain in the ass to have multiple PSDs open (even when all other programs are minimized or closed).
I develop a lot in python, django, javascript and php and will be starting some projects in java in the near future (And CAD/AutoCAD). It takes forever to even start a new django project or to install dependencies, something like 5-10 minutes. And a lot of the times when I run my virtual server my computer will freeze up. And when I'm working in IDEs such as sublime text or PyCharm they can take quite a while to load and to refresh. So I need help choosing a really good replacement for my laptop.
So priorities are: Speed, speed speed. Opening and working within photoshop, python, IDEs, in CMD and other shells.
I have no clue what affects these factors to be honest. Or what impacts it most. Is it the CPU? Type of drive i.e. SSD? Memory type and capacity?
Here are the two options:
1) Lenovo Y50

The Sager is smaller and less powerful, it has a weaker CPU and no dedicated graphics. It has >8GB of RAM though (if you're exceeding 8GB) and ssd in default config

The Sager is not what you want with the internal graphics (AutoCAD, etc.) A gaming laptop might be more your thing - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152601 About $300 more then the above ones - but, if you use it a lot for work, it may we worth the extra price. Are you in the US? http://www.ibuypower.com/Site/17-Inch-Gaming-Laptop and add the SSD+HDD combo? That's still about $1530...
I won't be using autoCAD for a while. The main apps I'll have open most of the time are photoshop, foxit reader, chrome, firfox, XAMPP, PyCharm, SublimeText, OneNote, Skype, a Github Shell, CMD with python running on it, filezilla, and that's about it. Chrome right now is taking about 2gigs of RAM.
Processes: 203 Physical Memory: 83%
I upgraded my Sager base model to an NP7358 which *almost* has the same CPU and GPU as the Lenovo one. I think it's just a matter of getting enough RAM, 12 gigs to be safe, and also a good 256gig SSD.

Tried to spec match for you on the Lenovo website, they are a lot more expensive :S
The Sager looks like a good deal.

It's true, Sager looks really promising and I'm reallllyy looking forward to being able to run code without my entire laptop freezing for 30 seconds.
I just have a question though, I already see Windows 8 giving me headaches. What is the cheapest and easiest way to get the functionality of Windows 7? All I want are my pinned icons, all my previous programs working, the explorer working like it should, and my start menu.
Should I downgrade my license, install some mods, or use something like classic shell? http://www.classicshell.net/
I just hope things like desktop icons, chrome import, and variable paths work the same way....
ETA: Well, it's a little more expensive but I can purchase the windows 7 OS on Sager still. Phew. Stability over any small speed gains I might get by switching to Windows 8.
