Dying GPU or PSU?

Last week, my computer started having an issue when playing games. Games would run as they always would. i.e. 70-100 FPS in Dota 2 maxed at 1920x10180. Then at around 5-10 minutes in, this happens (sometimes, with artifacting like horizontal lines being drawn for no apparent reason)

Sometimes, the computer CTDs with a notification saying that the display driver has stopped working. Most of the time, I have to turn off the computer.

I'm thinking it's the GPU that's the problem since this only happens when running 3D applications; but I'm not much a hardware expert so I'm not too sure. Sounds possible that my PSU might not be supplying enough power or something along those lines. The GPU runs at about 72 degrees Celsius at full load, just like the day I got it about 1.5 years ago. Gonna go for another test and watch temps after this post.

Artifacting is a GPU problem. If your power supply wasn't supplying enough power than it would simply just shut down.

It should be a GPU or a Driver Problem (overheating is what I'd guess)

I've had the exact same issue as you with my Radeon 5850. Everything from the display driver crash, to sometimes having to hard shut down, and also the exact vertical bars you are getting. After I tried everything, I RMAed it and it turned out to be hardware failing. If it's still under warranty, I would just get it RMAed.

Well I'd try installing a different driver first (either update or rollback). Then what Chairman Ray said.

P.S. As for only happening when doing 3D programs - that's not always proof it's because of extreme workload. Modern GPUs have basically two modes of operation: a simple, stripped-down "dumb but reliable" 2D interface, and what we normally think of the as the driver/operations that matter to us when it does 3D stuff.
