2133MHz cas11 @ 1.65v is better than 1600MHz cas9 @ 1.65v aka get the Ripjaws, not the shitty HyperX.

They're both 2133MHz.

Hm I thought we were talking about the HyperX listed in the Forbes build. But you'd still want the cas11 since it's $20 less.

Ok so I haven't messed around with upgrading my PC in a while, tried to run the new CoD game today and found out I don't even have enough RAM... So I'm looking to upgrade some hardware, for sure the RAM and most likely a new video card. I'm looking for a decent video card in the 300-350$ range and some decent RAM (8GB should be enough?) - Here's my PC stats as of now:
CPU: i5 2500k sandy bridge Motherboard: Asustek P8P67 RAM: 4GB DDR Video card: Radeon HD 6850
I knew when I built the PC the video card was on the lower end but it didn't matter since I only played LoL and Sc2 (on lowest settings as a preference) but now it's time to step it up.
thx in advance!

ghosts only uses 2 gb of ram. there's a few mods out there already to knock down the requirement, so you should be fine with 4 gb

Thanks skyR! That's good to know.
I checked the recommended pc upgrades in post 1 and for "High-end gamer" it suggested this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125466
Would that be better for AAA titles at high? I got it in the cart and ready to go. You seem like a pretty knowledgeable guy so you will decide if i buy it or not :D

Ok. I guess I'll stick with the gigabyte one seeing as my motherboard is also gigabyte unless someone has experience and recommends the other one(s) over it.
As for the case thanks for the run down. I think I'd go for airflow over sound since I am in a windowless room (yeah..) and sound is never a problem for me anymore (my current one is like a jet engine...but maybe that's b/c a whole side of the case is removed)...but still a bit undecided...the R4 looks like it has same amount of fans (in pictures) does the airflow really make that much of a difference?

Its a CAS9. thats the one listed on the sample builds. Just wondering if a kingston one would be better (more reliable..better made?, etc). All the computers I've used (built by friends or dad) have had kingston.
Edit:

my price range isn't very tight so that's not a big deal. CAS11 is better than CAS 9s? (I don't wanna do the higher number cliche)
currently 3 parts down on the build case, motherboard, and cpu . thanks for reading and continuing to help me!
Edit 2:
Power supply: Seasonic SSR-650RM [listed in sample build]
on newegg a 650W one is 99.99 but the 750W is also 99.99 after mail in rebate. should I go with the 750? Or is there a better power supply now than this one.

Either way I'd like to upgrade, mostly looking for advice as I haven't any idea about any of the new video cards and what would work with my setup. I'm assuming my CPU/mobo should still be powerful enough these days, just need to upgrade my video card so I can enjoy the new FPS games on the prettier settings. RAM is also pretty cheap so no reason I can't upgrade it to a pair of 4GB sticks, the RAM I currently have now can be moved into the PC I use on my TV so nothing is really wasted when I upgrade anyway.

Skyr can you pick out parts for my friends build? The info is on page 90

The Asus 280x is a lot quieter. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-third-party-round-up,3655-5.html

Often Kingston is quite bad.

The lower the CAS the better.

I don't think it's worth the trouble of doing the mail-in rebate.

1) Sound isn't a problem. I'm more concerned about airflow/cooling. But the R4 case pictures looks like its newer and has better airflow, etc. but I guess not?
2) So CAS 9 is better. Good to know.
3) Mail in rebates are never a problem for me. + Since I'm going be be buying a while new rig instead of upgrading I'll probably end up doing a bunch at one time anyway.
New question: HDD
I was told that 1TB or less isn't that good anymore and the one I currently have is 3TB so that would be my baseline. The sample link took me to amazon but there was also an "upgrade" listed on the bottom. Anyone able to read through the jargon and tell a laymen whats better about it?
"Old" sample link vs "Upgrade" For the SSD I guess the samsung ones are the best and for the pricing I think I'll end up sticking with the sample build one listed Samsung 840 EVO 250GB listed price is $180..but its now $190. $195 on newegg.

Define series is older so it's been through three revisions. Arc Midi is relatively new so it's only had one revision.
The WFZEX drives were just released, better performance and reliability blahblah. But you have a SSD so getting a 2TB Black for secondary storage isn't the best use of money. Blue or Greens would be fine.

@skyR
Mind answering my question a few posts above?
Also I was looking at this one as well which seems similar:

Didn't even notice the color. Thanks. This is why I ask for help here so good and I would be kicking myself if I bought the wrong part.
This is my build that I will be buying I think. Might wait for some of the items to go on sale, etc. but some prices/promo codes are really nice.
Quick note...the CPU will probably be upgraded to the i7 if it goes on sale within this year. otherwise I'll be holding off till last purchase on that one.
Lmk if it looks good, if you have any suggestions or comments, etc.
And again thanks for reading, helping, and guiding me through this long process.
+ Show Spoiler +
Edit: prices listed are lowest I've seen on the 3 main sites I use: amazon.com, newegg.com, and us.ncix.com.
Edit: 2 bolded things and spacing for easier reading
Also I noticed that my dad's build currently using a 3TB HDD and then 2x 2TB HDDs. I'm hoping/guessing the 1 SDD will make it faster and better for the amount I'm paying for one at 250GB?

Thx for the response, power supply is: Antec Earthwatts 650W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 EPS12V Active PFC 80PLUS 120MM Fan
I'm not too worried about any additional offers/mail ins with the GPU, just looking for something to last me the next few years and be able to play the newer games on high settings without issues.
thx!
