A friend of mine asked me to build him a computer for video editing and light gaming. I have an i7 3770k, 16gb 1600MHz ram, and a GTX770 from an old build and a 450 watt PSU from an old Gateway PC. The only motherboards I could find for the LGA1155 socket size were either ludicrously expensive or microATX, and I am very unfamiliar with microATX. Is there a motherboard that anyone here can recommend, or should I just get him the new generation cpu? His budget is $1,000.

Yeah, but I don't trust used PC parts, and spending $200+ on a motherboard seems absurd. I'd like to see if someone has a better option.

It's practically impossible to find Lga 1155 motherboards for unlocked cpu's that aren't used. And even then, they're difficult to track down, I've tried for a while.

You can still buy non-unlocked ones if you're willing, but at this point it might be worth it to simply go for a skylake instead.

I'm trying to decided between laptop work stations, working primarily on 3D asset modelling, texturing, and some rendering. So I'm looking to run Zbrush, Maya, 3DS Max, Topogun, Substance Painter, Photoshop, etc. I'm aiming for something that can handle very high poly counts in Zbrush (well into the tens of millions)

Is it worth it the price to stretch for the more expensive model?

Hey tech guys,

I'm going to buy a new Gaming PC. So far my build looks like this:

geizhals.de

Is there something obvious I'm missing or is everything going to work together?

I'm still unsure if I really need the I7, hence the I5 in my basket. Same goes for the case, but that's just personal preference on my part.

I wanna OC, which is why I am still debating going for the more expensive cooler, as it has a better cooling capability.

What are you guys thought's?

Also are there big differences between the graphics card from different manufacturers?

Appreciate any Feedback :D

can you guys put up an ultra budget pc sometime that can handle sc2 2v2? sure more powerful is always better but need to draw a line between playable and optimal somewhere :/ I think mentioning cpu+gpu is enough. Are locked pentiums too bad? 720-900p is ok too for monitor.

It will be for my parent's house, where I stay for like a month total in a year. They currently have an old laptop that can't even open binding of isaac because of shader version requirement :/ :/

Have you checked system requirements? I don't know how close to reality they are as they are much lower than my PC.

hey sexy smart people,
You helped me so much about a year and a half ago I ended up buying almost what was on that last list with cheaper ram, an SSD that was onsale, and a nicer looking case. I went with the 970 and I have no complaints thusfar. Now I am here to seek advice on another desktop I want to build/purchase prebuilt for my partner.

the most intense requirement is basically overwatch on max using a 24" 1080p 144hz monitor.

Coming from a Canadian perspective this prebuilt computer actually seems like a decent deal?
- how much would a more "casual-ish" user feel the difference between the 3.2GHz vs 3.5GHz CPU, overclocking and aftermarket heatsinks are not high priority/going to come up here.
- super cheap graphics card for a 4Gb card but will it meet my requirements?
- why they trying to sell me 16Gb RAM and how much am I paying for it when I only need 8 realistically
- loving the 240GB SSD + 1TB HDD
- the fact that it comes with windows 10 will save me uncertain pirating for a while too which is kinda nice
- any better suggestions that meet the $1000 price break?
- keep in mind canadian pricing

thanks again guys!

They don't show brand/model for a lot of the parts in the build so it's hard to tell if it's a good deal or not. You should ask what specific manufacturers and models are used.

Also a generic "Radeon R9 380" is an iffy buy when the radeon 470/480 or Nvidia 1060 exist for not much more, even with the 380's being dumped on clearance now.

They're probably trying to say first gen i5, but sc2 would run basically the same for an i3 of the same gen. Later gen i3's would run a LOT better than a first gen i5.

They also say AMD FX when Phenom II runs sc2 just as well, probably even better than Bulldozer. It looks to me like somebody looked over a CPU hierarchy without having a great understanding of the engine+CPU's or benchmarks for those

---

For sc2 2v2 you just need a powerful CPU core. Current gen i3 (like a 6100 or 6300) would be good. Very little is needed for graphics hardware, especially for non-max settings as the framerate dips and slow frames will be decided by the CPU

just follow this general template at a Canadian hardware seller:

http://pcpartpicker.com/guide/CRRscf/modest-gaming-build

that's 760USD ~ 1000CAD.

You can get a 470 instead of a 480 and/or skip out on the mechanical hard drive all together (always can get one later or just get a bigger ssd in the first place) to compensate for higher CAD prices.

240GB is more than enough for windows + overwatch + misc stuff like browser. also you can download windows from microsoft legit. you just need a key.

Make sure to get a psu from a reputable company of at least 450 Watts.

Hi all,

I am helping a friend choosing a laptop for study/work, which needs to be capable of running AutoCAD for 3D modelling. I am not sure of the exact software/version though, just know it's AutoCAD. Anyone familiar with the software can help me with the minimum/recommended system requirements please?

Thanks

if this is the product he is using: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-AutoCAD-2017.html

only system requirement worth pointing is 8gb ram. others are pretty light.

Hmm, that seem a bit too light for a 3D modelling software? I was expecting some heavy multi-threaded CPU or workstation GPU for those vector calculation and 3D rendering?

Probably look for something like i7-HQ, 16GB and may be the old gen 950M or sth I guess.
