There's a few more, SA is the main one but it's more important to know the actual voltage rather than the offset. I can't remember the right voltages right now.
Your XMP might set different timings, for example c9 on 2133 and c10 on 2400

Yeah well in all honesty, I can put together a pc and whatnot but once it gets to those voltages etc.. I'm completely lost haha, I know the system agent is like one of the first things you have to start toying with but all the rest is just like.. and with those XMP profiles, there's like profile 1 & 2 (2400mhz & 2133mhz) but then there are custom ones as well, if you enable that you get like a whole list of presets but there isn't even one profile among those from hyperx, it's all from g.skill etc.. and not a single one for 2400mhz so I left that disabled and just picked profile 1 (2 atm for 2133mhz).
Really need to start reading up on the whole oc'ing thing.

Hello everyone, I want to upgrade my computer by getting a new graphics card, I am not sure what I should get and if I would need to upgrade anything else in my computer to be able to use the card without bottlenecking it. The current specs are:
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz RAM: Kingston ddr3 8 gigs Motherboard: Asus P9X79 OS: Windows 10
My ideal price range is $200-$500 but I can spend more if I need to get more than a graphics card upgrade. Thank you for the help.

What I would suggest depends on the games you play. What is your monitor (more importantly, its resolution), and what games do you play, expect to play?
|
My resolution is 1920 x 1080, I currently play CSGO/WoW/RocketLeague/Overwatch for multiplayer games and I play a lot of the AAA studio single player games like Dark Souls/Witcher/Fallout/Deus Ex. A friend told me I should get a 970 or 1070 but idk if they would be ok with my other specs
|
The rest of your computer is fine. I don't think you'll see much change for some of those games, but a 1070 or for most of the same goodness at cheaper, the 480 are both good buys. Don't get a 970. Vram could be an issue in the future, and it doesn't have a lot.

A 1070 is ~1.5x faster than a 480 and way more expensive, kinda different performance tier
WoW & Fallout run worse on AMD cards due to them taking more CPU per frame. I'm not sure what the exact performance difference is now, it seems a lot smaller than the old +50% but still substantial. An example of this (obviously CPU limited FPS) - https://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1070/images/fallout4_1600_900.png - there is some weirdness between the GPU gens and some driver changes so it's hard to know what is up right now.
Performance-wise i think a ~970-rx480 would be a pretty big benefit, 1070 level performance would help for quite a few games but not all. Your CPU will only reach a certain FPS ceiling in whatever game you're in (that depends on the game and situation) and a better graphics card can't raise that, it can only give you prettier visuals while at that framerate. That CPU is fairly decent but not amazing so it'd be obvious in the CPU heavy games.

I really like the sound levels which you see on the GTX 1060s at load.

A friend bought a 1070 FTW and was getting load temps around 50-55c with ~2500rpm fan while overclocked, very easy to keep noise down and performance up since there's no real reason to stay below ~75c. You should see the same with custom rx480 cards

For the HDD thing, it's fine to transfer data over. Cloning sometimes doesn't work very well but transferring data is fine; might be better to just reinstall OS if you're fine with that.
You can have a HDD with reallocated sectors that runs fine for many years (my 1TB has had 4015 for like 2-3 years) but they can also just stop working overnight at random. Storage drives in general do that sometimes, especially HDD's. A steadily increasing reallocated sectors count is more worrying than one that went up once or twice and then stayed stable
Great, I will keep an eye out on the reallocated sector count till I go ahead with the upgrade just out of interest, thanks for the info

I think the free update was available for one year, and we might have just passed the deadline or we're very close to it but yeah if the update is available still, it should be possible.

"Assistive options?"
It's like the aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

They never really have. Microsoft doesn't go after individuals who pirate their OS because it would hurt their business model. Windows' market share is partially a result of a positive feedback loop. The more common Windows is, the more people are familiar with Windows. The more people are familiar with Windows, the more effort required for other operating systems to be adopted, both by individuals, corporations (who those tech support individuals work for), and by software developers (who don't want to develop for a small market).
In essence, Windows is happy to let some theft (pirating) slide as long as by doing so it protects its business model: vast amounts of money from institutions and corporations who more or less have to go with Windows because doing otherwise would mean much of their common software doesn't work and they'd have to spend a bunch on training their employees.
That said, don't pirate, that's not promoted on TeamLiquid. I'm just speculating on Microsoft's motivations behind not bothering the individual pirates much.

Hi,
I sold my R9 380 a month ago, in order to save for a Sapphire 480 Nitro, but it's definitely not available yet in France. Any idea when it comes out? Since i'm tired struggling with no video card using MB chipset...

Stock still seems really low, could be a few weeks to months

Good luck getting any decent deals on the GTX 10xx or AMD cards anytime soon. Once they appear on the market, they're all quickly sold even for ridiculously high MSRP prices. Especially in the case of the Nvidia cards.
Trying to grab a decent 1060 but more likely have to wait till after the holidays because they just aren't manufacturing enough to satisfy the demand right now.

Yeah, my card (560 448 cores) died recently (still somehow works with microsoft basic display adapter?) and I wanted to replace it with a 1060 but I can only find the $330+ models available.
Debating on getting a 750ti or a 950 (also saw a 370 for less than $100 at a local store) to hold me over until I can find a 1060 (or budget up to a 1070) then just use the temp card in a media machine.
Decisions decisions...

$100 + $300 is a lot more than $330 even if you do get a media machine card from it
