If you buy one of their GTX 9xx graphic or laptop (From select brand), you can get a free copy of Metal Gear Solid 5. It's pretty guaranteed that I will buy MGS5 when it comes out (unsure about which platform though). Knowing that MGS5 will likely cost over 60$ on release, should I grab one of the GPU to get it at the same time? The cheapest GTX 960 seems to be around 250$. The 970 seems to be around 400$. 980 is probably out of reach (and doesn't meet any actual need)
My current CPU is i5-2500k 8gb ram My current GPU is AMD 7870 (or 7850, I don't remember) : I am not playing anything that is very demanding at the moment.
Thoughts? Honestly go for the GTX 970 if you're thinking about upgrading your GPU. The GTX 960 will only be very marginally faster than your Radeon 7870 (Radeon 270x). If power draw isn't a concern for you, then a Radeon 290 (x) or 390 (x) will offer more value in pure frame rates per dollar than a GTX 970.
I would love to go with AMD but they don't have the MGS5 promotion ;s
Unless getting a 290/390 and then buying MGS would be cheaper...

Fuck me sideways, I bought the wrong DVI to VGA adapter, instead of having the male end, the DVI slot has the female end so nothing goes in

Alright, got the right part, and I can run Dota 2 at 60 FPS on the highest graphics settings. It's crazy how good it looks

gz :D
and dota looks kinda meh + has big lag when moving camera
i actually measured it, and they have an exponential acceleration curve when dragging camera. Set to move as fast as possible, it's about a 50 millisecond delay before significant movement starts (8 frames on 144hz)

The CPU kind of sucks, but you're not getting a huge upgrade there without replacing most of the entire thing. And you'd probably want to wait at least a month or two to do it anyway, after new products have released. For many games it's a liability but still maybe acceptable; in others, it should be just fine.
But... the HD 6450 is pretty much unusable for gaming and is by far the bigger concern. It's an old, very low-end (at the time, even) card for media consumption and just general use. This is the big problem, and you really want to upgrade the graphics card yesterday.
You may or may not have to upgrade the power supply too while you're at it, and your case may or may not have room (and the cooling) for a larger, higher-end graphics card.
Anyway, you can get a graphics card with multiple times the performance for well under £100 and probably not even have to replace anything else. What are you expecting to spend?

If he is intent on updating his computer instead of building a new one, he can just slap on a Radeon 270x or 280x and a samsung/intel/crucial SSD. AMD FX can't compare to intel but it's still pretty usable. Not sure if he'll need a bigger power supply though.

In that range you may be able to get an r7 360 which would be a big upgrade. For a little more you could get a 750 ti

750ti would be better to be on the safe side with the PSU, since it draws less power. I think throw in one and see how much it changes your gaming experience if you were not satisfied than we can build a better system around that 750ti. It may suffer a bit at 1080p + high graphics but that card is a good budget performer with lower resolutions/lower details.

i like 16gb ram if you need to open up some google chrome tabs but I7 has very little benefits over I5 in gaming. Weak GPU is a killer for any gaming laptop since that is likely impossible to replace or upgrade If he can buy and put in an SSD into the gaming laptop then that point is w/e.

So I've noticed this thread recommends this CPU cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608041
I currently use Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E. What's the difference and how do you make a decision about which one is better? Regardless of answer, I'm happy with the CPU cooler I have but I'm trying to learn how to make a decision about CPU cooler in the future.

You go to benchmarking sites and find charts where someone has used different heatsinks on the same rig. Then you factor in cost, warranty, and brand / product history (if old enough).

Hello everyone, I want to upgrade my PC so I can run GTA 5. I'm currently running an i5-3350P CPU @ 3.1GHz, an AMD Radeon HD 7700 series and 4GB RAM, no Idea whatsoever about my motherboard though. I have no clue about PC hardware except a little about putting that stuff together but that won't be the problem. Could you guys give me some suggestions on what I need to get?

Id suggest another stick of ram and a better graphics card. GTX 970 or radeon r380/390 What is your budget?
